linkshells and eco?Follow

#1 Feb 06 2013 at 3:16 AM Rating: Default
I wanted to make this open to all servers, so i posted here. ^^
My first question is this, is there a linkshell that will take me in? I will be playing in march when the expansion arrives and just wanted to get things started. I may start earlier as well. I have played before but its been well over 5 years i beleive. So ill be fairly new to the game. (Im counting myself as a new player beacuse im sure things have changed... :) )
My other question is this, how is the economy in game right now? when i join, is it going to be overly hard to gain gill to purchase what i need?
Thank you all for the help! ^^

One or two stacks of crystals (which you will get atleast one of on every kill with Signet on) is enough gil gained if sold on the Auction House to finance your starting gear up to level 20-ish, if you're wise and purchase the equipment from NPC stores.

After that, you're stuck purchasing from the Auction House for however much people put stuff up for.

That all said, gil is insanely easy to get these days. And if you go after something that is in demand, you can easily farm up massive amounts of gil in no time at all, at any level. Even simple Geodes that will clog up your inventory go for 20k if you do it on the right elemental days.

Everything outside of the absolute best gear available for those jobs is at most 10k on the Auction house these days. Everything else is quested and only costs you time and however much you wish to spend on food or companionship.

Beehive chips are still 10K a stack and you can farm those up at level 1.

Im sure you will be able to find a good linkshell no matter which server you choose, just try to be social and use the /shout feature, say something like "New player looking for a friendly linkshell :)" or something and i bet someone will give you a /tell.

One thing I wanted to mention is that there is a npc called an "Artisan Moogle' located in each of the three main cities. If you talk to him he will give you the option to buy a Mog Sack for 10,000 gil, a little pricey for someone just starting out but very cheap nonetheless (a stack of crystals will get you 3-5k on average). This is something youre going to want to invest in early on as the mog sack doubles whatever your inventory is (there are other quests to increase your inventory later on in the game and the mog sack expands for free along with it).

I recommend doing this early on so you dont have to worry about inventory space, back when I used to play there was no mog sack so its great to have! You can also get something called a Mog Satchel which gives you another bag of inventory space but, unlike the ingame upgrades, the mog satchel is only given as a bonus to those who purchase a Square Enix Token, which is an extra add on you can plug into your usb port for increased security. I dont have one yet but im looking into ordering one in the future, I think they cost $5-10.

Thank you all very much! :)
looks like i'll be going for crystals and bee hive chips. Ill also go after that bag as well for the inventory space. thanx for the heads up.
I remember when gaining gill was quite hard, the game must have changed quite a bit while i was away. But it still sounds fun. cant wait! ^^

Gil scales up in difficulty a lot better now. It's pretty easy to make a hundred thousand gil before level 25. It's pretty easy to make a few million gil at level 99 (and depending on what you want to do, you're going to need it.)

It's much harder to make a few million gil at level 25, however - which thwarts RMT efforts since they need to level accounts to 99 to get anywhere. Even the fish bots need to get to level 20 and be active for a month before they can work.
