I recently installed FFXI on my laptop and can't get it to work, but it'll still work on my desktop. I posted this on the official forums but haven't gotten anything back yet
Ok, so... I've been searching the web all day and have found no answers(Other then I have to wait) to the error I'm getting when I try this(It's the FFXI-3100 error)
I believe the problem to be the above as it didn't start until I tried to set my account up on this computer while it continues to only work on my main.
I am not asking about having two characters on at once, I just want to play my account on this computer while I am away from home

Which OS you running? It could be that you didn't install the right playonline client. Try this version and see if it works.

Windows Vista, steam version and I'll try that
After a quick google search, seems it actually just might be a connection issue. Maybe a firewall installed on the laptop is blocking your connection to the server?

I don't have any firewalls up either x_x
have you verified the Windows Firewall (or other local security) is not getting in the way?
Otherwise, could be a port forwarding issue, or other similar routing problem (like inbound port 53 (DNS
) getting blocked by the router's security options, etc.).
If you are using your own local router for wifi, have you tried bypassing it (connecting your laptop directly to your ISP's router/modem)? If it works with this setup, it's likely a local routing issue. If not, either local security on the laptop is getting in the way, or your ISP's router/modem is not forwarding the game's traffic to your laptop's IP or MAC Address (this could be an issue if you've had them open up ports specifically for FFXI or other games).

I've never had any problems with ports before, so I don't know how to check

Ok, I forwarded the ports and still no change :/
