How many of you like me cried when FFXIV came out and it was crap? I don't know what it is about XI, but I can never get enough, and no matter how many times I quit, I ALWAYS find myself coming back.

How many of you like me are planning to turn a blind eye to FFXIV when it goes to 2.0 and continue playing FFXI?

I'm playing both right now.

XIV is not the same game it was when it first came out. It's actually rather fun now. And when V2 comes out and it finally has a decent graphics engine, it's going to be even better.

I don't think I can quit FFXI, but for now, I'm happy giving SE my cash for both games.

Don't get me wrong, I played last about... a month and a half ago. I don't get the same draw in.... I guess my mind is permanently stuck on. "It's not FFXI"

Ive actually been hearing pretty positive things about 14 lately. But I won't be buying it/playing it anytime soon. I am still sour about SE blackballing us Beta testers opinions, then releasing a steaming pile of dung and calling it a game. Blizzard is doing the same to D3 right now.

Frankly I don't want to play a game where I am told how to have fun. Hopefully the new FFXI direction puts some player made fun in the game again, and not scripted fun like it has been for some time now.

I'd play 14 if they have/get (if not already, I don't follow it) a DRG or BST type class (Or any pet type, I find I like the pet type classes in most games).

I'm waiting at least until FFXIV not only looks pretty but MOVES pretty. I don't care about the neat designs and smooth textures if the spell animations are **** except for the ancient magics which are just okay.

Well, Dragoon is in the game, but it doesn't have a wyvern pet like the job does in XI.

I would like to have it on PS3 when it comes out but i can't think about it now since i just got back into 11 after 4 years and frankly i was only lvl 30 SUM as my highest job when i quit. I too have heard they fixed it and made the HUD more like WoW so people can recognize it more. Not sure how i feel about that because i cherish the hardcore games of yesterday! I just hope they don't totally sell out and make everything easy.

Worth playing if only for the cute lalafell laugh emote. It's so adorable!

I'll definitely be looking to get back to FFXIV once 2.0 is released. I never really despised the game, though there were more than a few things I disliked about the system. Many of those things have since been remedied, or are still being tweaked, though I was greatly upset at them more than tripling the cost of healing spells without doing anything for the spells potency making Conjurer one of the weakest classes in the game, while at the same time giving away half their attack spells to Thaumaturge.

Now though, Conjurer is more white magey while Thaum is closer to black mage, and it seems to be working out a lot better. Though how the MP management thing is working now is a mystery to me, as all of the websites I've visited, including ZAM, are outdated and only display the OLD spell lists and MP costs (Conjurer still has all its nuke spells for one!). I can only hope its been made more manageable, since at the time of leaving the game I could only cast a cure spell 4 times before running out of MP entirely.

The graphics and gameplay are going to mean little if there's no one to play with, so that's what's going to matter most to me. I'll have to see how many friends move to it and how easy it'll be to get into a good, friendly LS.

MP really only becomes a major issue if you're moving around a lot with no downtime. (Not having played at release, I'm not sure if the current massive "no action regen/refresh" was in place. But standing in place for about 30-45 seconds refills a thousand mp pool from empty.) The new WHM does better than CNJ at healing, hands down, but a CNJ can still be a good secondary healer, and two CNJ can main heal together without too much trouble.

Unless they completely rebuild FFXI, I'd rather play a good FFXIV.

I love the feel of FFXI, the races, the world, and so on... but it's old. It's stale. It's been ten years now, the adventure is all but dead. Most of us are coasting on nostalgia, in-game friends, and the dopamine rush we get from a new item rather than any sense of wonder, immersion, or adventure.

I miss being new. I miss not being able to alt-tab and read while running from point A to B without missing a turn. I miss being lost, I miss not knowing whether or not I'd win, I miss having to bug my linkshell to find out where to get a spell and I miss leveling somewhere and wondering whether or not an NM popped there or not.

I have high hopes but low expectations for Adoulin. It'll be an expansion designed for level 99s; I can't see there being 'level' oriented content, since it'd be very difficult to overthrow Abyssea as the exp destination of choice. This means the content will have to be very quest oriented.

The areas will be new, we won't know everything, maybe there's an adventure to be had? SE seems to be on the right track... but while I hope it will rekindle the old spirit of FFXI, the realistic part of me expects a bunch of abyssea styled content: Kill the trash mobs, get the pop item, pop the NM, ad nauseum. That said, I'm optimistic enough to cross my fingers and wait giddily for an expansion that sends us all on an adventure again, rather than more content where you simply go to a location and kill the same boss over and over.

tl;dr: I want something new. As much as I love FFXI, it'd old hat to me and I can play it with my eyes closed. Unless they do a reboot or make Adoulin an amazing expansion, I will jump ship for XIV the moment XIV is good.

At the time I left, you could only cast in an active stance, which meant no MP regen. You had a few abilities to recover MP, but they were on long timers and the recovery process was very slow, even in passive. I think what annoyed me more is that there's no rest animation like there is in FFXI, which means 'recovering MP' just looked like you were being lazy to the rest of the group, so there was more of an obligation to be seen to be doing something.

Since I found out they're going to be charging some customers less than others for the monthly fees (based on how many months before the relaunch you've been playing), I decided not to re-register for 14. If the guy next to me is paying less for the same content, SE can kindly **** off.

i had the same feeling as an ignored beta tester and then everyone saying we did a pants job when the steaming pile of poo that was xiv at launched was given to paying customers. i stopped playing when the free time was stopped (nov last year?). it wasnt that good. if 2.0 is ever completed i might take a peak but the elitism/end game had taken hold and its probably not my scene. i just want to have fun in my spare time and relax, neither xi nor xiv are great for doing that for me hence i play sparingly

I'm having fun in both right now, although XI is getting more of my attention right now. XIV has come a long way, and once 2.0 hits I think it has a decent shot at becoming a good alternate MMO for me.

Same...I even built this rig just to play it at release and I believe it's gotten worse. I had to turn down all the effects and resolution just to get to a playable framerate.

The direction of going to 'Quest hubs for xp' ala WoW was listed as the main/only source of xp for ver.2

Not sure if I like that idea. I got bored really quick in Rift with that. The big killer I found was I wasn't even reading the story of the quest, just the "What do I need to kill/collect/etc?" It was the same with WoW. To this day I have no idea what any of the lore or back story was in WoW because of that. But I could tell you the whole storyline behind the "Richard the chef" quests in XI, or the Man<tab> quests, or the SOB kids, etc, etc.

Just seems like the direction of MMOs these days is Casual=Solo game play with other people running around instead of NPCs. I guess it's one of those 'Can't have your pie and Edith too'. Don't think SE will be able to successfully combine casual/solo and dedicated/group game play.

I use dedicated in the sense that you are dedicating blocks of your time to group efforts, either xp or events. I don't like using the term hardcore, to me that's those folks that will play "20hr/day, min/max, gotta have it now" to the extreme. I don't think that's wrong at all, as those folks tend to be the trailblazers with information/gear stats/math that help us with less time make better decisions on gear/strats/etc.

I have no interest in FFXIV. I don't like MMO's for the sake of MMO's. I started playing FFXI back in '04, because I really enjoyed some of the earlier FF games and their story lines. I'm back into it now for nostalgia's sake. And also to finish what I started way back when. I always bothered me how FFXI required more and more of my time to achieve the higher level things, while my real life afforded me less and less time, giving me no choice but to quit around level 51. With the new dynamics I'm able to actually progress in the limited time I have.

This is most likely my first and last MMO. I tried WoW a couple years ago and it honestly never grabbed me in any real way. It was fun for a moment, but it felt like chaos, people running all over the place killing each other, and the graphics are very cartoonish and not to my liking.

We'll see what happens with FFXIV or what comes after that. Maybe when my kids are grown and I'm retired I can start playing an MMO again. ;)

I don't know why anyone who played FFXI would migrate to FFXIV after all the shenanigans SE has pulled. There's plenty of other, better options on the market. I just spent a day playing the Guild Wars 2 beta and that's pretty much convinced me that if I leave FFXI there's other things I'd rather spend my time on than another MMORPG under SE's negligent management.

I don't have the resources (mostly time, but money is also a factor, somewhat) to play more than one MMORPG right now. FFXI is still the place to be for me. If there's a windfall and I win the lottery or something, I might consider giving XIV another try. But I don't expect that to happen any time soon.

I left FFXI back in January (my longest break in my 8 years of playing), so I don't think I'll be going back. Signed up for XIV for legacy, played for about 1 week and that was it. The game is better than it was at launch, but still feels like there's a lot missing and it just doesn't keep my attention very long. I'll give 2.0 a try for sure, it's worth a shot and doubt I'll ever go back to XI at this point unless the reviews for the upcoming expansion are amazing.

I'd rather play FFXI even though I signed up for and played FFXIV the day it was released for about 2 weeks. However, if SE can't demonstrate that they can listen and respond to reasonable suggestions for poorly designed content either ahead of time or much quicker after it is released then they will lose me as a customer for life. This includes things like a lack of an auction house in FFXIV and poorly designed, recent events in FFXI.

If I could afford it, I'd be playing both, but I'm too cheap to actually buy XIV, and I was to late to realize that I had qualified as a beta tester to actually beta test it (I got the confirmation email like, a month late, because of stupid computer antics, at which point I was on a different computer which could not handle XIV in the slightest). Maybe after I get my long-planned new gaming rig I'll look into it, it does look pretty entertaining, in the "back up MMO" sense. That said, I'm so **** firmly rooted into FFXI that I've found it impossible to quit. The longest I've lasted is 6 months.

Yeah... unless the mechanics change drastically, or they add a job with mechanics I actually like (maybe BST or SMN), I can't really see myself jumping ship from XI to XIV. No pet jobs is totally a dealbreaker for me, as is the super-limited spell selection of mages. I also strongly dislike how long it takes to level (without powerleveling from others) - it gives a huge advantage to people who have someone to level for them over people who are just starting out/don't have a lot of contacts in game.

I will check out 2.0 (because it will be free) but I really don't see myself switching from XI, especially since my love for XI has been rekindled since I drunkenly resubbed that fateful night at 3 am after remembering how much I love farming blue magic (yeah, I'm, weird). With new jobs and an expansion on the horizon, me wanting to sub to XIV is less likely.

IF they had a combo sub price that was REALLY cheap I would consider subbing possibly maybe (say if it was only an extra 5 bucks a month) - sometimes anyway, but I am definitely not paying full or almost-full price for it while I play XI and I don't see myself ditching XI, just when I am starting to feel like I am getting more powerful and I can access endgame and get decent gear for my char.

The fact that most of the current players are going to be max capped and are already cliquey and judgey as it is doesn't make me feel like playing either. I love the way the graphics are looking but the gameplay so far leaves a lot to be desired, and everything I've heard leads me to believe they aren't going to change it significantly. Graphics are nice but not enough.

Ffxiv has some really neat features that were drowned in all the **** "features". If they manage to not turn the game into world of final fantasy, it could have some legs. This also hinges on their new graphics engine and how well its optimized.

The real problem is, as a "side dish mmo" ffxiv falls behind the free to play and easy to jump in/out of , guild wars 2.

Ffxiwill be my home mmo, where i have friends and longterm goals. Gw2 is ideal for a secondary mmo, since it is only as hardcore/time intensive as you make it. I can jump on (login time is literally around 20 seconds) do some WvW or exploring, and then go back to the ffxi grind.

Is the plan.

Well, that 'game' is being played at 2 levels, FFXIV 2.0 itself and SE's handling of FFXIV as a whole (plus in the context of their whole amnesia with making great games they're afflicted with). FFXIV itself could be fine, perhaps even great, but it has so many stigmas, marks of cain, scarlet letters on it, it has other issues to deal with.
1.) There's the lack of trust with SE. They botched 1.0 so bad, it had as much or perhaps more of an effect on how FF fans view SE as FFXIII. Add into that how they neglected FFXI to put everyone onto FFXIV (and how FFXIV turned out despite all that staff & experience). There's a huge breach of trust there. What if they get some of it right, then phone it in from then on?
2.) The issue of support. People might be hesitate to get attached to a game that will sell badly or not get subs at the high level it needs to to pay off FFXIV 1.0, the year of f2p, FFXIV 2.0. This is where reviews and the MMO player perception of FFXIV comes in. How many will treat FFXIV 2.0 like an entirely new game and how many will still see the FFXIV part of its name and be reluctant to play it? (Like how many people would see The Adventures of Pluto Nash 2.0? Ishtar 2.0? Mars Needs Moms 2.0?) SE has invested so much into FFXIV, beyond where many felt they should have just accepted the losses, the big question is how much more losses are they willing to accept?

FFXI, based on its track record, would seem to be the stable, reliable one. It may be old, but it has a proven track record, and at best, gets back to a string of expansions from the Far West to other far corners of Vana'diel, and at worst, ends up with Abysseaesque add-ons with Voidwatchian filler inbetween.

Quote:

So bad it induced people to tears? Wow. I knew it was so bad to generate anger, disgust, revulsion, disillusionment, demoralization, et al, but I didn't know it could make people cry. I thought the only FF to make people cry was FFIII with people cosplaying as Onion Knights.

Quote:
XIV is not the same game it was when it first came out. It's actually rather fun now. And when V2 comes out and it finally has a decent graphics engine, it's going to be even better.

Smiley: dubious But FFXIV 1.0 had great graphics. That was the only great thing it had. All the issues were with gameplay, interface, and some with style of those visuals (e.g. copypasted landscapes or "Haven't I just been here?"). That's SE's big issue nowadays- they are so obsessed with great graphics, they have neglected the gameplay and the quality of experience (e.g. the world, towns, etc).

I recently started a new account because Squeenix wouldn't unlink my char from an old friend's account. The game seems a lot easier to level and do missions in now but I can't stand all the leeching at low levels (book burns, I see it as lowbie abyssea.) I will always prefer XI to XIV because even the beta (which should have been an alpha) was pretty bad. A friend that still plays told me that XI might be getting a real graphical facelift next year but I think I'd rather just go play Guild Wars 2. And not because I like GW more than XI, I'm a huge Final Fantasy fan in general (that's the only reason I'm playing XI since 13, 13-2, &14 is bleh) but the customer service HAS to be so much better elsewhere.

I haven't seen that but there is a taru laugh in FFXI that I think is the cutest. Most people think the /panic emote for tarus is the cutest but I like this laugh emote.

It's not the normal laugh emote.

First you /sit THEN you /laugh.

I like that one.

Graphics engine, not graphics design or art direction. Art design and such is staying - the game will look the same, but it should feel very different.

My Lalafell looks great now, except she runs at 10 FPS in The Fronds because the engine is so poorly optimized. XIV is supposedly moving to a customized version of the Unreal engine, which is supposed to greatly improve the smoothness of the graphics and is permitting them to redo all the maps and landscapes from the ground up.

I strongly disapprove of SE's general attitude in creating MMOs, but I realized it slightly too late to quit FFXI before it had a grip on me. I'll never touch FFXIV or any other multiplayer game they make. Whoever they're trying to appeal to, it ain't me.

I don't like their self-righteous attitude myself. They treat us like stupid kids..."Sit down and shut up! We know what's best for you". Or either they just ignore us all together.

I'm done as well. I won't disrespect this forum by name dropping other MMOs, but there is one particular American MMO that I'm very excited about.

Sorry square, it's not you...it's me :(

Honestly, I think the fact that they're so **** stubborn about refusing to change their methods with how they think an MMO should be handled, and given how very different those views and methods are from the rest of the MMOs available, is one of the few truly redeeming things about FFXI. I absolutely hate the way they handle **** but that SE has become fairly predictable, and that despite hating their design style, the game itself is so **** addicting, is probably why FFXI has been so strong. It's a nice little oasis in the sea of WoW clones that are all about instant gratification and are only fun for a few days at max, that's for **** sure.

Go ahead and name&shame, it's not disrespecting the forums at all, given that this is a FFXI-based section of a MASSIVE multi-game forum system.

Yeah, I am with Jinte. Even though some things about the way SE designs stuff is maddening, it really is refreshing to play something that doesn't feel WoWlike. That said, they've gone a lot more in the WoW direction with XIV, which is one of the things I dislike about it. I know that many people probably like that direction, and that's cool, I'm just not one of them. If I wanted to play WoW, I would play WoW.

Also love that I can play both with a gamepad honestly. Probably what ended up making me lose interest in EQ2 was having to play with a mouse. I'm on a mouse and keyboard all day at work. Gamepad feels more like a game to me. (Also helps prevent hand pain...)

The emotes in FFXIV are taken to a whole new level. The laugh emote isn't just visual, its audible as well so you get to hear a cute little high pitch giggle along with it. Laughing while sitting causes them to kick their little legs up too. It just takes cute to a whole new level. Dozing off while sitting causes lalafell characters to topple over comically, waking themselves up in the process.

Yeah, I confess a lot of my favourite aspects of old FFXIV were the visuals, but little touches like the emotes are wonderful. It's fun just seeing how each race and gender reacts differently in each emote.

Speaking of maddening SE design, and in a random side tangent that I need to vent about but don't want to make a new thread for, **** SQUARE ENIX ACCOUNT. Seriously, I'm trying to change my **** email. It's not **** hard. Except it's **** impossible, because rather than do what EVERYONE **** does and ask for your security question's answer, SE asks you which security question you picked previously, as well as the answer, and as far as I can tell, the answer is **** case sensitive, such that absolutely none of the answers I would ever use for any of the four questions work with any of the possible variations in **** capitalization/punctuation/spelling. To make matters worse, SE doesn't give you an option for "I forgot my question/answer", you have to hunt that **** down in the support center, then choose between Email or Phone support, which, if you pick email, you'll get an email saying "This question cannot be answered via email support, please use the chat or phone support instead" and, of course, I have never once had phone support do anything other than make **** worse, so I want to use the chat support, which has accomplished **** before, only, THERE IS NO OPTION FOR CHAT SUPPORT. THIS IS RARE, GENUINE JINTE RAGEMOAD HERE, FOLKS. Smiley: motz

Apparently FFXIV has up-skirt shots and **** innuendo...

RATING INFORMATION

FINAL FANTASY XIV

Platform: Windows PC, PlayStation 3

Rating: Teen Rating Symbol

Content descriptors: Alcohol Reference, Animated Blood, Language, Suggestive Themes, Violence

Other: Includes online features that may expose players to unrated user-generated content (Windows PC, PlayStation 3)

Rating summary:

This is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) in which players navigate a large cast of characters that engage in missions and fight the forces of evil. Players explore environments (e.g., cities, plains, caves) and battle human and fantasy creatures. Players use swords, spears, axes, firearms, and magic spells (e.g., fire balls, energy beams) to defeat enemies in real-time combat. Cutscenes depict a man being stabbed from behind, and creatures emitting splashes of purple or yellow blood when struck. Some female characters are depicted from low camera angles, with lingering camera views of their buttocks (i.e., up-skirt shots). Dialogue contains suggestive references; for example, 'The netmaster's probably up in his office polishing the mast just thinking about her,' 'stick yer manhood in the forge,' and 'You cheating little whore!' Several characters are referred to as drunk or drunken, while others sometimes talk about wine, rum, and grog. The word 'sh*t' can be heard in the dialogue.

Won't be touching it. I learned what SE is like from XI and that had a good launch (compared 14) and made profit after 2 years look how SE treated it when they started on 14. That is on top of the bad taste XI been giving off as nothing more then a plan B to 14. I wanted to get excited about a new expansion but it just might be to late.

I'm going to get blasted for this, but i actually liked XIV when it first came out. Sure, i absolutely dreaded the race names and undefined job names/abilities because depite looking exactly the same, they just couldnt give them the same names. Diffirent for the sake of being diffirent, not better, but still. The game was good. Fatigue was a good option to deal with a battle in either 3 seconds and tire yourself out or pace things out a little.

I liked original FFXIV, then all these **** changes came. Simply so they could say they were working on things and were thinking ahead. Auto-attack was rubbish, so what if you had to press a couple of buttons to attack? You could have paced your own combat and even paused if you wanted to. At the very least they should have made it a toggle, but no, they simply had to wreck the entire combat system to please a small group. MP cost SHOT up. You went from "ok, i can solo this EP" to "Oh crap, i casted one cure and my MP pool is drained". You couldnt ever solo a NM anymore. Solo play became non-existant.

Came back to see what had become of the game a month or two-ish before it went P2P, and all my gear that cost me several miliions in the past was completely ruined, Weapon damage ratings were cut in half. My armor was replaced with an exact identical piece, that looked the same but had lesser stats than mine had before. And the armor that i had had it's stats almost floored and got some bs antique logo on it or something. You cant just do such a thing and expect people to praise you.

Unless 2.0 starts from scratch, has everything done right, and SE wouldnt **** us over again mid-game, i'll look into it. But i'm not going to quit XI for it.

I don't plan to touch 14 until I've finished all the storyline content in 11. I don't care if I don't get all the best gear, or beat all the bosses, I just want to experience the story. If and only if I can manage that, I'll look into 14.

Too early to tell. I haven't played XI in two years or so because I was disgusted with the direction the game was going in with Abyssea/Voidwatch/NM/Gear hunts.

However, I have been having a blast with FFXIV. The Umbral Era Storyline is the kind of content I have been missing in XI since, hell, the end of Wings in 2010.

But Seekers of Adoulin and Akihiko Matsui being both XI's new producer and the battle system designer of XIV has me optimistic for the future of both games. I may come back and make a return as a Rune Fencer, but it depends if the story of Adoulin will be worth it. I plan on playing both if that's the case.
