I know this is a lame question but how the heck do I tell which weaponskills give amber? Like on BST - is there a native axe WS to amber with? It doesn't work with just any elemental WS does it? Cause it doesn't seem like Bora Axe works.

As a BST for axe anyway your best choice for amber lights is Primal Rend, it's pretty much the only axe skill that can produce amber (though I assume Cloudspitter may also). While there are exceptions (Engergy Drain), the general rule to know if a WS will give amber lights the description of the WS will say: "Deals <some element> elemental damage to an enemy". Bora Axe, Smash Axe, and Gale Axe are all basically debuffs in WS form, so they don't really count as elemental WSes.

All elemental WS give amber lights. If you weren't getting amber light from a mob while using Bora, then that was one of the few mobs that naturally won't give amber no matter what elemental WS is used.

Not to be rude but this is wrong, as I said Bora Axe isn't an elemental WS. It gives ruby light, I just retested to confirm. It's basically just Mistral Axe that also gives a bind effect that's the reason it shows up as ice elemental in the WS window. The same can be said for Smash Axe (stuns shows up as thunder element) and Gale Axe (inflicts status effect choke, shows up wind element). There are a number of WSes across multiple weapons in the same boat. As I said in my previous post if you want to amber on BST (with axe) get Primal Rend or you could sub dnc/nin/thf/rdm/brd/ or rng and use dagger for Cyclone (if Primal Rend is out of reach).

My bad, I don't know the first thing about axes. Smiley: clown I just assumed it was an elemental WS from the conversation.

Thanks. I was thinking I might have to equip dagger (at least in the short term) if I wanted to amber WS on BST. On the bright side I've been leveling dagger for brd anyway... so won't be a stretch.

Thanks for curing me (at least partially) of my ignorance.

That all being said, there are still weird exceptions.

Tachi: Jinpu and Koki are definitely physical hits, they can miss completely; but they hit amber lights if I recall correctly, and they are red staggers.

Do people still create regular Exp parties like Crawlers Nest and Bhafalau Thickets like they used to?

No, unless like minded individuals get together and decide to do it.

A lot of people "low man" various Aby & GoV camps though.

Yea, I believe you need the physical disc for 360....then can do all DL once acct. started.

Downloads can be confusing due to PoL interface, first you have to purchase the Content ID...then "Extra services" this is how I did my Abyssea on xbox. As far as I know, you could still Download all newer content this way.

But must have "Linked" Gamertag on Xbox...the good news is then you will also have chat avail. with other xbox players (versus doing Skype or something)

Crawlers nest often has people doing GoV parties. If people are in the zone you can often just show up and join

This guide has become a bit outdated, with new NPCs being added and such. I'll try to get around to updating it soon! Smiley: cool

Also, feel free to keep asking questions about Abyssea and/or how it relates to the game how it used to be, and I'll answer as I can... That was the point of making this thread! Smiley: grin

Good little summary on Abyssites there! I'll throw that into OP when I update.

Thank you for the very detailed and informative thread. Returned to Vana'diel last night, and Abyssea seems so complex, but now I think im ready to dive in.

Oh and just FYI, Steam has the entire lot on sale at the moment for €11.99, including all 3 Abyssea expansions. You can buy the single unique code and add it to any exisiting account, and it will top up your expansions all the way. For example, if you have only RotZ on your current account, adding the Steam Ultimate Abyssea Edition Code will add Chains of Promathia, ToAU, WotG, Moogle Kupo d'etat, Shantotto Ascension and all 3 Abysseas.

However if you don't have a PoL account, it will give you everything, and a special event hat too! :D

Just added it to my recently reactivated account after buying the ultimate edition code just now, and all worked, added the 3 expansions and gave me the hat code, so I can 100% confirm this works, and saves you roughly €25 (€65 if you don't have any expansions).

Ok newb question here, but how can a fresh 30 gain the cruor required to buy the keys to become a leech without first leeching?

You can't. You'll either need to become a fresh level 70 and get into an aby party on your own. Or figure out some way to leech such as making your own alliance or knowing someone who will make an alliance and let you leech for free.

I figured as much, thank you.
