Square Enix Security Tokens Now Available (Sep. 21)

Beginning today, you will be able to purchase Square Enix Security Tokens through the Square Enix Account Management System.

Previously, Square Enix Security Tokens could only be purchased through the Play Online Viewer, so users without access to the Play Online Viewer could not purchase a Security Token.

By logging into the Square Enix Account Management System and linking a Security Token to your account, you will be able to use the Security Token to log into all services under that account.

A Security Token will add an extra layer of security to your Square Enix Account, and we encourage all customers to use one.

* See the below URL for more information about Square Enix Security Tokens.

They are going to use the TGS to officially announce that the security tokens will be available again after FFXIV launches.

I'm sure this is directed at FFXIV players who didn't buy the Collector's Edition.

I like to think of it as "The Mog Satchel Strikes Back".

Still, to keep things on a more serious note, trying to get one. It's asking me to register my country and region. However, it's saying that both my account and game will be altered by doing so. Does anyone know in what sort of a way?

Would... lets say... putting in you're from europe, while you have an american account ***** everything up or alter it forever?

OMG Mog Satchel!!!

Ever since i JOINED FFXI the tokens have been sold out. As a RDM i can soon swap solo/party gear from satchel, and put other random essentials there as all foods, ninjutsu tools, arrows, warps, instant retraces, woo-hoo!

I finally bought a MOG SATCHEL! Oh and a token.

I am still debating about getting this. I seriously want one but then I read a bit about how you can't take the token off the ID once it is assigned. So what happens when the battery dies? :x

As long as you have access to the token you can easily remove it. If you lose it or it stops working you have to call SE support to have them remove it.

Also once you remove it from your account it will not work anymore if later on you decide you want the extra security and want a token you will have to buy a new one.

.....Not so sure if the Mog satchel is worth any extra time I have to spend with SE's Customer Support. I will have to debate on this. Sure it helps with preventing being hacked but honestly, I have heard very little of that ever happening in FFXI.

Thank you for the info though.

You do realize actually getting hacked will be way more time dealing with SE's Customer Support, right?

It's not like the battery (unless faulty) will be dying anytime soon after you get it and even then, all you have to do is provide a few things and it'll be unlinked.

Well yes of course it is. But as I said, how often do you hear of anyone in FFXI getting hacked? IN fact, other than WOW, as long as you have a proper password and good virus protection, your chances of being hacked is pretty low. At least with FFXI.

Still, it is a valid point. You never know when it may happen. So I will continue to take it into consideration. Actually now that I think about it...my bf still has the one we ordered over a year ago but it didn't get to us until the day after my old account was banned. XD So I never used it.

My wife was account jacked and we were out of game for her for a while >< some friends too - it does happen occasionally. Or rather did happen? Come to think of it, haven't heard anyone complaining about being jacked in the last several months.

That said, the security token has been great. Have had ours since Januaryish? with no issues setting it up or using it. The code is short so doesn't take much time at all to enter and be on your way. Hidden perk: wife and I have our accounts linked on the same Square Enix account, so not only does one token suffice for both of us but the SE Account password is the same, making it easy to access one another's accounts. Good peace of mind for we past victims of account tomfoolery who are now paranoid! Of course the storage space is nice too. Invaluable really, once you're used to it. I carry more gearswaps and meds than I care to think about and she carries her whole inventory of cooking ingredients so she can make things on the go =)

tl;dr highly recommended, will purchase another when this thing's battery eventually dies.

Well I guess it wouldn't hurt anything. Have to get them before they are sold out again too. XD

Estimated battery life on time was said to be about 5 years, same as an old SNES cartridge. Some of them lasted closer to ten.

If your battery dies in five years, you call SE, explain the situation, buy a new token, and link it up when you get it. (You can't replace the battery, but even if you did, they'd charge you $5 and shipping for it anyway.)

That's cruel >< sorry to hear it. I didn't have any problems getting my wife's character back (with a small hiccup because her maiden name changed to married name since account creation!) but it took longer than I'd like. Good luck!
