Wishing my friend still had her account active. Would just sync to a level 10 job or something and pick on birds in Saruta to get the 350 I have left to kill. Haven't really had the time to dedicate to a merit party lately and I'd rather avoid the whole "omgRDMwithasword!" BS since it means no light staff for cures and whatnot.

Look me up with Demonviper and Nzihaan sometime, Seriha. We often do non-standard low-man parties for fun, and would be happy to kill some birds with a lolmeleerdm.

So I started doing the trails today. My first one is "lizards" and i think about it some and decide to go to Uleguerand Range and kill raptors. Single ice weather up kill 4 or 5 of them and no credit on them. Wondering if this is something else like the eruca said in the first post.

To let everyone know I am working on trail 592.

Make sure you have the corect trial and that it's inscribed onto your weapon. You need to flag the trail by trading the weapon to the moogle before it starts counting. Lots of people make that mistake at start.

I don't see why Raptors in the Range wouldn't count.

Eruca almost, just barely, make sense for not counting. They actually behave differently(Sleep at night) than other crawlers or vermin.

Narval(or whatever) raptors only have one difference between them and all other raptors, and that's the use of Frost Breath over Thunderbolt.

Are you sure you are actually on the trial? Just grabbing the weapon and heading out isn't enough at all.

You might go try Valley of Sorrows, Kuftal Tunnel, or Cape Teriggan when Weather NPC predicts Wind or Fire for those areas, and see if a kill counts there.

But first, I'd really double check and see if you started the thing.

I'm not sure if anyone's mentioned this, but has anyone considered that some trials specify 'family' and others 'type'? A Velociraptor, for example, is in the 'Raptor' family, but is a lizard 'type'. This can be confusing because if your trial called for lizard family, only the fat little dudes with the stubby arms would count. It can be confusing to know that a Labyrinth Lizard is in the 'Lizard' family and is the 'Lizard' type.

It kinda goes like this for birds.

Type: Bird
Family: Bird
Family: Colibri
Family: Bat
Family: Diatryma

So, perhaps the problem with the crawlers is the Eruca and possibly defoliators don't count as crawlers. It might be like this-

Type: Vermin
Family: Crawler (Yellow/Black)
Family: Eruca
Family: Defoliator
(And of course your other vermin like ladybugs)

Anyway, I'm tired so I'm probably blowing smoke out of my *** or missed someone else say this same thing.

Same with slimes.

Subspecies Clots in Mount Z, which often has the correct weather doesn't count.

I wonder if this is a mistake.. because there are not many experience giving slime pops in zones which host the correct weather required.

And the zones that do have it, it's a crapshoot of waiting for an hour for 5 minutes of weather, with limited spawns.

Raptors count as lizards. My Sharpshot automaton gets Trial 86 kills for both in Cape Terrigan.
Birds same deal. I got all my Trial 85 kills on lesser colibri and the occassional bats (fomor BST pet) outside Aht Urhgan.

Eruca (and perhaps defoliater) not counting for crawler kills is a glitch. The devs simply forgot to add the subspecies since they only occur in 2/3 zones.

As for grouping mobs, use the following:
Family: Vermin
Species: Crawler
Subspecies: Crawler (yellow)
Subspecies: Eruca (red)
Subspecies: Defoliator (green)
Species: Ladybug
Subspecies: Ladybug
etc

The trial system is a new addition, and bound to have a few bugs. The "Occ. atk. twice" weapons have two paths that should lead to the same augment, not one that is stat-for-stat inferior. These weapons are RARE/ex. You'd have to toss your Wargfangs (and start the NM camping all over) if you decide to go for the VNM drop version(which requires an alliance) after doing the 1500 kill path (which can be done solo albeit a very long solo...)

You're quite right about that distinction.

Of course any bat mobs would count for Bird kills, since bats have always been in the Bird family. All bat Blue Magic (Blood Drain, Jet Stream) is considered in the bird family for instance. Interestingly enough, the demon-like dragons Amphipteres are also included in the Bird family.

On the other hand, Eruca are not Crawlers explicitly. There is probably a reason they have different names; they're different species. Things may actually be working as intended. Or maybe not, if SE really only cares about the enemy skin model, and not the name of the species.

There were actually a few contradictions raised by Sanraku/Ryo and Zeni Soul Plates when they were added, so I'm not sure SE is even trying to be consistent on these kinds of things anymore.
