Am I missing something in the Shadowlord gear? The body/head both look like sidegrades to the current HNM gear except for PLD and maybe SAM or DRG. The only thing I'm not sure about is the G.Sword since I've never taken DRK to 75.

What I'm missing is where they hid the mage gear. Not really noticing anything "wow" worthy pertaining to mages that could come out of the fight.

I think the 14 other jobs aside from WAR, PLD, DRK, BST, SAM, DRG might want something out of the battle.

And I don't know about the Allied Ring being a mission reward... something that nice you'd assume you get it as a reward for pulling off something great.

From the looks of the mission summarys it would have to be a sort of "well... we're losing and things are totally *$&$ed... you want this ring?" situation.

Tummie, I'm gonna upload links to some pictures of new HNMs and gear, hosting from my photobucket account, would you add then to your list and maybe let us see them without having to click the link?

First is the new HNM Dadra, the dragon

So, apparently quest text being found elsewhere for Trial of Magian quests is making it sound like you can't just upgrade anything through it, that you might be limited in selection to all those new weapons being found. If that turns out to be the case, all I have to say is what the hell? Haven't they been saying that part of the point of the magian quests is to keep current gear competitive through the grind up to 99? I'm hoping this assumption is just a misunderstanding of the dialog.

Except the final WotG reward won't be here until September when they finish the WotG missions. So nothing here is the final WotG reward.

Not necessarily. This wouldn't be the first time SE put stuff into the .dats that you couldn't actually obtain until a future update.

That's what they've been saying from the very beginning.

They never said you could upgrade anything you wanted, or even that you could upgrade any weapons that existed pre-patch at all.

Summoner gear seem lacking as always. But the mini expansions update should hopefully at least make getting pet items better and easier so the update is still good. (Well to be exact, it is better than any other update except the Austere gear update)

I'm basing my assumptions on this question and answer:

With how long the level cap has been 75, I think there have been a lot of people who worked hard to get "ultimate gear". How do you plan to follow this up?

Matsui: Using the "Magian's Trials" system we plan to implement, we believe they will continue to be useful at higher levels. We'd like to see them mixed with new equipment.

I'm going to assume that most of the items that have increased states on Darksday are going to be drops from shadowlord, or associated NM in the area.

The allied ring, I can see this being a WOTG area only exp band and purchased with AN.

Per usual SE is PROBABLY only alowing part of the questline. What sense would it make to allow you to upgrade all your gear and weapons BEFORE the level cap is increased?

I'm sure they will either A) add future parts of manigans in June or B) tell us they canceled it.

So relax :P

I meant for the weapon upgrade quest, where all they said is that you can upgrade some weapons, without specifying exactly which ones. The relic quest is a separate quest that is currently only in the planning stages.

Anyways, I had forgot about the interview, so I guess they did imply we'd be using existing gear. But this is only the first part of the weapon upgrade quests, they said there are more coming.

Makes sense, I suppose. If the purpose of upgrading existing gear is to let us keep using it past 75, there's not much point to implementing it before the cap increase. (Especially if upgrading them increases their level requirement, so we couldn't even use them at all until June anyways)

More likely a part of the Magian system. Kind of curious how that is going to work. I mean, just considering that there are four five versions of each blank weapon:

Makes it appear that only certain upgrade lines will be available per weapon per type. Like I said, pure speculation, but a D:89 Delay:504 weapon that occasionally attacks two to four times is pretty substantial, and doesn't really mesh with eight years of SE gear philosophy. Probably the lower the base damage, the more potent augment available so it roughly balances out. If not, why the hell would you even consider the D:44 one over the D:89?

It'd certainly be nice if you could upgrade however you want, but there is always a catch.

I have to disagree. Even the NQ Adaman Hauberk is still pretty sweet. The Nocturnus Mail has no +Attack other than what you get from the 10STR, and less accuracy. I'm not a math expert so I don't know if the 1% Triple Attack makes up for it but my gut instinct tells me it does not. Being able to hit harder and more often on each attack with the added acc and attack on adaberk feels more worth it than having a chance to Triple Attack once in 100 swings.

Nocturnus Mail IS however a great piece for non Adaberk jobs, as well as an Osode replacement piece for weaponskills on SAM, and WAR on Steel Cyclone, and Drakesbane on DRG. Its also definitely a sexy option/alternative for using on PLD if you don't have homam body, or you don't like the -evasion on Haubergeon, or if you don't have an Ares Cuirass.

I wouldn't worry so much about your Haub+1 being obsolete. Granted that the Nocturnus set is most likely the reward from fighting the Shadowlord in the past via the new Campaign Ops, access to it will be very limited and incredibly difficult to obtain if they're accessed in the same was as existing nation campaign ops like Splitting Heirs, etc. I wager its going to take a lot of work to gain control of Beau/Xarc/Castle Zvahl/Zvahl Keep for a nation to even have a chance at obtaining the Nocturnus set.
