Warning to Players SE is STILL Banning!Follow

Just over 3 weeks here. That's the same BS I get every time I contact. I was told I could send a letter to that William Bisby guy. Sounds like that would be just as unproductive as calling SE!

The reps just tell me over and over there's no way to check if my complaint is actually being investigated and no way to verify that it's even been received. When I complained about that, the guy I was talking to told me I need to file a "policy complaint" through the website because that is policy and that is the only answer I'm going to hear.

IF SE decides to unban my account, they claim they will send me the magic "unbanned" email (that I have yet to hear of anyone receiving), but I was also told that after the 3 week mark it would be highly unlikely that I'd be unbanned.

So, I've just about given up. There's no point in flogging a dead, unresponsive horse. I hope that XIV is a flop. I know MY money isn't going to be spent supporting it.

Totally agree with you here - I cancelled my account when my brother's account was banned. I kind of hope that they can learn and that FFXIV is worthwhile for those who play it and that, as a company, they improve their CS and find a better medium with communication with their customers. But, I have little hope of that happening, and my money is also going somewhere else. Currently: my savings account. I'm kind of enjoying life without an MMO now.

Don't count on it. PlayOnline is a part of Square-Enix.

Man that would suck to be banned from FF XI. I could not imagine it myself. I love this game and I have been playing for many years. I think I would die if that happened to me. FF XI is such a beautiful game. After reading these post now I am scared to know of all these bans, I don't want it to happen to me. I am very addicted to FF XI, life without FF XI scares me. My life would become meaning-less and I would start having FF XI with-drawls. I can't even think about it no more.

Same info for me, my RMT Activity is explained as "you were banned because more then one person had access to your account." Nothing also...

UPDATE:

I had a written response from SE today. They have declined my request for the information I wanted because, and I quote "It is not our policy to disclose information related to warnings on a persons account and the conversations with a member of staff".

Straight on the phone to the ICO, and they have confirmed if they hold a log of any conversation relating to my account, they must disclose it upon request and any fee being paid.

I've followed the ICO's advice, and have now submitted a complaint to the ICO. They will now investigate SE and force them to comply with the DPA.

Good for you!

SE likely doesn't expect its non JP speaking userbase to have the brains to be able to defend themselves, so the response you get from that should be interesting, to say the least. xD

Man I was planning on coming back to FFXI since I just took a long break from it but I see I got LM-17'd myself. Now I don't know if I want to go through with it...I only have one character, and it's a low level, so I don't see what the problem is.

Been about a month and a half now also... It's creepy how pol.com doesn't update much anymore, all the gamestops pulled ffxi and marked it as a discontinued game, i used to pay for 6 accounts with credit cards that are all now deemed "disqualified CC's", that Bugsby guy w/e his name is sends out generic go F yourself auto response letters, and at the end my ls members are now mostly migrating to Aion...

3 weeks in and no email. All I did to get this LM-17 was update my CC because the old one was expiring. So now Im banned due to "irregular activities" which looks like its gonna be a perma ban.

Gee SE, Im so sorry for complying with your verified by visa.

UH WTF... LS member just sent me a pm about this:

For those customers that are receiving an unexpected LM-17 error code and were not notified by a GM previously that the account was being reviewed for termination, please use the Special Issue Chat for expedited service.

They actually going to give a s***?

That option has been on the online chat support for a bit now, at least 4 weeks. They still do not care, the same people with the same policies are on the other end.

LOL Thanx... I remember when that chat service was first added, I signed into talk to them and right when a rep showed up he said he was transfering my chat sessions to another gm and left me hanging for another 20 mins. I had thought they changed the wording to [Wasn't previously contacted by a gm for account termination] was recently added. Thanx for the heads up though. :)

I have seen most people being banned on the LM-17 for gardening and changing CC info. I had the LM-17 ban also but for "Depriving others of enjoyment." What?! I was told my ban is permanent. No further information will be provided to me. I typicaly play solo trying to level my character and usually only play once or twice a week. Anyone else still getting banned for no apparent reason?
#343 Sep 14 2009 at 11:44 AM Rating: Excellent
1st post here. After reading this thread I thought I'd share my own experience as it appears I was banned today, LM-17 error code with the reason being "Irregular Activities". I'm theorizing that this is a direct result of my account being hi-jacked a week ago and having all my gil stolen from it, thus alerting them to the "more than one person having access to my account" deal. I had a good amount of gil on my account even though it's relatively new because my brother sent me a decent amount from his old account. I submitted a complaint today and the rep was actually very reasonable. So we shall see what happens. It's very upsetting though as over the last month and a half I've worked really hard to get my brother back into the game, and his friend and my fiancee playing for the first time as well so we could all experience ffxi together. :(

*Before you ask me about how my account got jacked I've only recently begun playing ffxi again after a 4yr hiatus and hadn't set up a security token yet. I know of all the malicious ffxi sites out there and only visit the wiki page if i need info. So somehow, somebody got in and that's all i know.

This is sooo frustrating... never had these kind of problems back in the day and it's making me feel bad for getting my friends and family involved in the game again! GRRRRRR!!!!!

OMFG SE are so stupid i get a ban for Irregular CC Activity 3 months ago and file a complaint then and wrote a letter to them ********. This morning i get a Email telling me to call them about the LM-17 bann so i get online "cause i spent 30 bucks last month on cell charges from sitting on hold for 45 minutes at a time" and talk to a rep and get told my account was banned for a different reason now and its perma banned now and they could not give me the reason why it has been perma banned. here is the conversation with the *******. and i have saved everyone of them i have had and will be reporting it to the BBB and gonna talk to my best friend "which is a lawyer" about putting these enempt ppl in there place.! Theft,Fraud, and slander??? You can have this!

SEI POL Kenny: Hello, Dave, thank you for contacting the PlayOnline Information Center. Just a few moments while I review your question, please.
SEI POL Kenny: May I have the first 4 and last 4 numbers of the credit card that is attached to the account?
Dave Haynie: 01134
SEI POL Kenny: Thank you.
SEI POL Kenny: It would appear that this account has been permanently banned.
SEI POL Kenny: I am sorry to tell you, that this account cannot be reactivated.
Dave Haynie: for what?
SEI POL Kenny: Details as to why a ban or suspension might occur are not disclosed. We use several tools, some of which are automated to evaluate account activity.
Dave Haynie: i just recieved a email this morning telling me to contact u about unbanning lol
SEI POL Kenny: I have reviewed the account informaiton, it woud appear that it is not possible to have this account released.
Dave Haynie: it was due to Irregular Credit card Activity right?
SEI POL Kenny: I cannot release the reason as to why the account had been closed, I am afriad to say.
SEI POL Kenny: I can only state that this account can no longer be used.
SEI POL Kenny: Are there any other issues I can assist you with right now, Dave?
Dave Haynie: that is what one rep told me flat out
Dave Haynie: and how can u bann the account for that and not the 2 other accounts that CC is attached too?
SEI POL Kenny: I cannot say what exactly caused the one account to be banned.
SEI POL Kenny: It being linked to a credit card would not be the main reason.
Dave Haynie: that is what a rep told me is he lieing? cause i have the conversation on file
SEI POL Kenny: I am not stating that any false information had been provided to you.
SEI POL Kenny: However I am unable to comment on the reason behind the closing of this account.
Dave Haynie: well it had to been cause i have it on file
SEI POL Kenny: Once again this account can no longer be used. I am sorry, however having it reactivated is not an option.
SEI POL Kenny: Are there any other issues I can assist you with right now, Dave?
Dave Haynie: and why send me a email this morning telling me to contact u about unbanning it?
SEI POL Kenny: It may have been an email sent stating if it was possible to have it reactivated you can contact us.
Dave Haynie: there is no other reason it could be banned i have done nothing wrong and have violated the ToS agreement
SEI POL Kenny: However I have viewed the account information, it would not be possible to have it reactivated.
SEI POL Kenny: Are there any other issues I can assist you with right now, Dave?
Dave Haynie: yes i want a reason for my account being banned i paid for the game and the expansions i deserve a reason for it being banned if its not for Irregular CC activity
Dave Haynie: and 5 yrs of service!
SEI POL Kenny: As already stated details as to why a ban or suspension might occur are not disclosed.
SEI POL Kenny: The account can no longer be used.
SEI POL Kenny: Dave, I have already provided you with a resolution to this issue. As it seems you have no other new issues I can assist you with, I will be removing you from chat at this time.
SEI POL Kenny: Thank you for visiting PlayOnline Chat support, Dave! Take care and hope to see you online!

Just an update, the ICO now have all the evidence against SE, including proof that the letter was signed for, the reply issued, screenshots of webchat where they declared they are exempt from UK law, and other bits.

From speaking to the ICO, SE are completely in the wrong here, so they will be taking action to enforce the data protection act.

I think we either have a win on the cards for UK-based players, or a loss in the fact I'll get perm-banned for speaking out.

Or they might just decide to withdraw service from the UK. I can see them doing that rather than complying.

I would've disagreed with you on this last year, because it would have been stupid.

Now though...

Dear Customer,

You have contacted us recently regarding an issue with the outcome of a sanction against your account.

We have received your complaint via letter sent to our office and are sorry that no reply was sent out to that letter. However on the 14/09/09 after contacting us you was advised that no information involving another \"Player/Game Master (GM) could be provided to you in regard to the law and personal data protection.

This decision is final and no appeal will be taken into consideration.

Again we would like to apologize for not replying to your letter.

I like how they did not refer to me by name, and the letter I sent them wasn't a complaint, it was a Subject Access Request.

Apologies Europe.

I think English may be a second language to whoever wrote that. I also think that they don't understand they they are required to actually provide the information. Maybe they think that just sending a "response" will get them off the hook?

Unfortunately, they've done so to the wrong person. I've access to a county solicitor who deals with these issues day in day out for another government office, and who is a close friend of mine.

I also no all the ins and outs of the DPA, and know SE are in the wrong. I feel an enforcement notice is coming.

Good for you for sticking to it. SE needs a good slap across the face for the way they've treated their consumer base.

I was chuckling while reading their letter to you. What horrible English. They need to have someone who can actually read/write English handling their English speaking customers.

Bunch of garbage.

/angryface followed by /********* to SE.

Squidgy, formerly of Sylph, forced into retirement for no reason other than SE is stupid.
