New player? Returning? Coming from WoW? Click here!Follow

I will be coming back shortly. I haven't played since right after ToAU expansion came out, forever ago. Sucks that things have died down but what can you expect... I remeber they had added like 5 servers a few months before I left. But very happy to see gilsellers gone, they sucked and inflation went through the roof.
Can anyone suggest the best server for beginers, like the server that seems to be the most popular for new people? Any can you regain characters?

Awesome piece of work thanx.

I'm not currently a player but will become one withing the next month.
I am acctually coming from WOW but from what i saw and heard about FFXI it seemes better to me than WOW. Cant wait to experience it for myself.

It helped in so many ways.

Arigato.

I'm trying to restart my account I'm maybe 25% there lol

I'm looking to buy an old ps2 and a hdd some guy like an hour away from me has one and says it's in great condition I'm tempted to get it but....pretty sketchy imo

he won't give me his actual address but it makes me wonder who would try to scam people via ps2 hdd? lol

anyways is it possible for a ps2 user to still start again?

I had like a level 25 or something blm/whm I think

forget which server lol

but yeah hopefully I can play soon

I too am coming back after 4 plus years. Got a few questions, do you still have to do the levle caps at 55 60 65 70 and 75? Also how good are parties? Still take a long ime? I got a 54 white mage and I am dieing to play. WOW was great, but it never had the feel of FFXI

Okay, so im starting completely afresh when it's fully updated (8 hours to go :O) and from the sounds of it, it depends what server your on as to whether you'll find good linkshells or partys for levelling, i think i may be stuck on a server already and i do not know which one it is.

Also im in england, so if i can change server somehow, letting me know of a server with a good english population and linkshells would be very handy. I'm basically giving WoW a break and trying FF11 for a month, as yes wow has been made very friendly and easy, but i do not like the turn pve has taken, the good guilds no longer get credibility for getting to black temple while the worse guilds are still on karazhan, everyone is always on the same raid.

Hoping if i find a good english linkshell so time zones are the same, and get levelled up, this game will satisfy my hunger for more hardcore and recognisable progress, also i like a good story, and this looks like it has one i can get into.

Going to be returing soon.. Quick question.. Should I focus on taking subjobs to 45/50 or would I be ok to take my WAR straight on up to 90?

I worked on mine simultaneously so that I would not have a "gimp" sub. I started with blm to 18, did subjob quest, leveled rdm and whm to 15, took blm to 30, then leveled rdm to 25, blm (with /rdm) to 50, etc. As I leveled my rdm, I would keep my whm at /whm level. While it is a bit more tedious this way, at least you get regular breaks from your main job to try something a little different. The biggest reason for keeping your subs leveled of course is the job traits/abilities that enhance your main job.

The only time I strayed from this variation was when I was leveling nin for rdm/nin. I refused to level my war up any further than the 9 levels I got trying to break the great sword to open drk. So for the longest time I was nin / 9 war and entirely gimp. Luckily I partied with my LS and while they loved to laugh at me about it, they didn't give me too much flack. I did eventually go level up war to 25 and surprised them when I got on nin to finish it up one night!

Well shoot, might as well post while the maintenance is still going.

Returning for the 3rd time I believe. My FFXI adventures tend to be cut short by outside forces, but it seems for now I'm in the clear and ready to stay.

My character on Ragnarok is Reiske. I quite enjoy being a level 45 Monk (Hume, Male) in Bastok. Favorite craft would be Woodworking, however my best is Goldsmithing (Though I'm merely an initiate still). I love hunting down giant rams in my spare time and pulverizing skeletons into a beneficial bone meal. I like to take long walks on Valkurm's beaches and getting caught in the near constant rainfall of Pashlow Marshes. Though it is not nearly as effective as hand to hand, I sometimes like to switch out a pair of tourneys for a striking staff, just so I can use an AoE weapon skill.

Since coming back, I've found a decent yet somewhat faceless support in my old Linkshell. Still looking for a good group to party in often though. If anyone is interested, I, much like many others I'm sure, still need to do the Tour of Gustaburg quest. I've been keeping my Red Mage at level 1, just so I would not lose the opportunity to complete this. If anyone else from Ragnarok still needs to complete this, I do hope you get in contact with me. ;D

And yep...That's about it!

Hi there FFXI community,

I'm a retired player with seemingly dumb/simple questions that I can't find the answers for concerning returning to Vanadiel. I've spent time looking at SE's Character Restoration Program section, all over this website, and even BG's, and from what I'm seeing my situation is hopeless (or I'm just blind and am not seeing the answers in front of me). But in one final effort to see if it's possible to restore my original toon, I'm coming to you all for help.

I retired back in '08 and played on the ps2/xbox. Is it possible to restore my old Content ID and toons even though I do not have any registration codes from my game discs? I'm pretty sure I remember my Content ID login and pw, and I'm very willing to restart the game but a large part in that depends on if I can get my old toons back. Do I have to repurchase the game first; most likely the bundled Abyssea edition before I can even start this process? I do have an updated SE account these days, as I tried ffxiv but couldn't stay interested. I've been reading up on all of the news about the recent payment issues as well...

All of this seems to be pointing me in the direction of starting from scratch, which would be really disappointing considering all the work I put into my toon, but hey that's life. Please help an old taru out - Thanks ^^
Necro Warning: This post occurred more than thirty days after the prior, and may be a necropost.

We just recently had a LS member return to the game and he purchased the Abyssea Collection because he thought he wouldn't be able to get his character back. After about a week of working with SE, he was able to get it back and rolling. The coolest part was, SE merged his Abyssea Collection with his restored character when all was said and done.

I know there is a list of things you will need to know, but I am not 100% sure what they all are. I know it involves the address on the account when you set it up and credit card number. I would guess you need some type of registration code is necessary, or at least your POL ID.

Regardless, it never hurts to try!

Best of luck to you!

Thanks Elspetta, that was encouraging to read ^^ I figure it's worth a shot - if it works then great! If not, oh well at least I tried.

Thanks very much for this thread i have just returned to the game after a few years out and unfortunatly was unable to get my old character back so i had to start again its crazy how much the game his changed i mean it looks like its going to be insanly hard just to do the sub-job quest again as its pretty much impossible to get parties nowadays.

I didn't care for wow graphic's it was ok I guess and I did not like the way fishing felt either. let alone fight pigs and scare crows, for how many levels? lol. Maybe there was more but I got bored real quick, so I never found out. The only things I liked was that a Wow char when created, if not played will remain forever, where as FF xI, in 6 months to a year could be gone for good, and that mosy pcs can play wow because the graphic's are not so intense..and that I could fly on mounts in the air..the only things I liked about wow. It's FF XI forever, as long as it stays up forever..i hope.

I thought I'd give an update on reactivating my old character to maybe give others an idea of what they may have to go through themselves ^^ First of all, I'd like to point out that I couldn't remember my old PlayOnline ID or password and I do not have my old registration codes (I played on the ps2 and 360). I retired back in 2008.

After I posted here several weeks ago, the itch to play got the best of me ^^ I downloaded the Abyssea Ultimate Collection, got a new PlayOnline ID, linked everything to SE, got rolling on a new Content ID, and finally started a new character. This process took about a week, but that's because I had other commitments going on. I was wondering still if I could reactivate my old toon, but I hadn't really tried yet. I looked around for any pertinent information that I could find on forums, SE's Customer Support page, etc.. This led me to several online chats with SE's customer service reps (all of this is available when logged into SE). I originally tried to start this process over the weekend but was dismayed to find out that the online customer service chats are closed on weekends...oh well. That following Monday I was able to chat with a rep and explained to them my situation...

Though I didn't have any of my previous codes, id's, or anything available they were still able to find my old account and character by using my old address and CC information from when I started originally playing. I've moved several times since then, so coming up with the exact address was a bit of a pain, and I didn't have the same phone#, but because it was still linked to the same email I had before I was able to get down to the last form of ID that was needed - a faxed copy of a legal form of identification, my driver's license. They did tell me though that they saw my toon's name on their screen, so it was possible to reactivate (win!).

I thought, "Well, I've come this far, why not give this a shot." I made a color copy of my driver's license and faxed it to SE with the customer service ticket # I got from when I chatted with the rep. Later, after I got back from Kinko's, I started another chat with another rep to get the ball rolling again. It turns out the processing time for faxes is 2 business days. I did this last Friday...so I had to wait until yesterday to check if they got the fax and if I could finally get my toon back. Well, they found my fax but said it was unreadable...apparently you can't really send them colored faxes (who knew). My options were A) resend the fax as a black/white copy (without the certainty that it'd come across appropriately) or B) send them a copy of my driver's license to their CA address on Sepulveda (sp?) Blvd by mail and wait 2 days after they get it to process it (so basically a week to be sure). The second option made me a bit uncomfortable, so I went with Option A. I sent them another fax this morning with a black/white copy of my license along with the original customer service ticket # I had...now I get to wait until Friday (probably around 6pm my time) to see if this worked or not...

What drives me is the knowledge that my old toon, Pyras, still exists - he's getting closer and closer to my reach. I feel like I've been a good circus dog, jumping through my many hoops, over the past 1 1/2 weeks, so it's bound to work...right? I guess we'll see on Friday.

I have to admit though - playing on my new toon has been fun. I can see how starting from scratch is a very daunting task; I've been soloing when I can but now I'm concerned that I won't be able to find a party to help me get my subjob quest done (I'm almost to 18...I think that's the prerequisite, if memory serves). Not having gil is also very scary; I'm looking at ffxiah to see what's selling these days and what I can access around Windy. However, just for fun I ran to Jeuno to see if I could still get a lowbee toon there w/o getting aggro - and sure enough, I was able to do it ^^ It's small things like that, the little victories, that shaped my toon back in the day. That's what is driving me to continue trying to get Pyras back. If all things work out how I'd like them to I may keep my new toon as a mule, if that would be even possible.

I'm hopeful that I'll be able to post here again this weekend saying how much fun it is having Pyras back, nuking the butts off of mobs and trying out/learning how to live in the age of Abyssea. We'll see ^^ I know this was a drawn-out post but if it helps someone out then that will suffice.

*cheers*

Here's my update...the fax I sent them was still unreadable. I spent 45 minutes chatting with SE's customer service reps to find out what part of the fax is unreadable - the whole thing, or just the photo? They can't tell me, for security reasons. So they say to try again, as a black/white fax (just a recap, the last fax I sent them was black/white). Has anyone else experience issues like this before? I mean not necessarily with SE but with sending a faxed copy of identification to another organization? Just wondering if it's a bad fax machine at the fedex/kinko's I've been going to, a problem on SE's end, or if sending a perfectly readable black/white copy of a driver's license has a hard time being readable at the other end of all faxes.

I'm just so frustrated right now :(

Yes. When I moved states, I needed to gather documentation for my new DL, which required I fax a copy of my current photo ID for verification. DL's do not copy well. What I found was I had to blow it up, so the ID takes up 3/4 of the 8 1/2 x 11 copy paper and turn down the brightness to about 20% to get a clear enough copy to fax.

I'm happy to report that a fax to SE of my DL was finally readable ^^ I'm trudging around Vanadiel once again in my old digs...ahhhh, it feels good! Now, if only I can get the Abyssea Ultimate Collection edition to transfer over to this Content ID...oh well, I'll tackle that one another day. For now, I'm happy to be back home!

Returning after about 3 years away i will be on a new account (had game on xbox 360 back then).

Just bought the complete pack from steam as this MMO gave me experiences no other has since then, my only worry is that even back in 06/07 the lower level areas were quite dead, in the end i only got to about level 30 (mainly because i wasted too much time fishing) but the party waits were partly responsible for my slow progress.

What i would like to know is if anyone could advise me on the best server to join, i would also be indebted if anybody is willing to accept me into their linkshell as the community was what made this game so great last time i played.

Note: i am also wondering how important these abyssea zones are, i have no money left now but if they're vital i would like to know.

Sheeps
