If SE claims they can't rollback a character from a week ago or a month ago, that is total BS.

MMO companies should have backups for servers over a wide range of time. They have more then just two magnetics tapes they jump back and forth between.

I can see them being hesitant to do so out of possible abuse, but an account hijack is a very well documented process within their admin department. If anything, it would be hard to tell if an account was stolen or just simply sold over ebay, and the seller tried to con it back.

So worst case scenario "legitimate" account buyers would get burned, but so be it. And that is a big "IF" assuming Se took action.

its against the ToS to sell accounts on ebay anyway so its the buyers fault in the first place if they want to go that route

When my son's account was hacked earlier last year, all his sellable gear, gil etc were sold off but everything else was left intact. When we contacted SE they said because it happened during a 3 week period of time that he wasn't playing the game they could not return anything because they only had the items on record from the log for 2 weeks.

I don't know if this is true still but I wouldn't hold out hope for return of items from much longer than 2 weeks unless they kept the records longer because of the rash of hackings.

If it happens wonderful :D but don't get too hopeful yet.

I think SE may be more concerned about people making deals behind their backs with gil selling companies to log in, sell their stuff and pay the player, then the player reports a hack on their account, getting everything back again. How should they handle it to prevent this from happening?

It seems to me that the market for sold/bought accounts would disappear if they did that. I think that would be an added bonus to the account hacking fix, don't you?

Until people abuse it by sending random stuff to people and getting tied accounts banned.

I mean, all it would take is for RMT to log in, send one item randomly to 8 different people that they see out on the street, then the STF to roll back the account and accuse anyone who received items from the account to be tied with RMT and issue a ban.

This whole thing is going to take a little bit of thought before it's put to practice, I imagine.

However, it would seem like they did EXACTLY what they were hoping to do with the survey. They got an answer from the community and are thinking of a way to bring it around. I'm glad they're putting thought into it.
