#653REDACTED, Posted: Oct 12 2007 at 5:17 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) IMO anyone they can determine to be using 3rd party software which provides a competetive advantage (ie pretty much anything other then plain vanilla Windower with NO pulgins) as well as anyone involved in RMT (both selling and buying) should be immediately perma-banned. So yes he should get his account deleted.

Looks like FFXIapp is, in fact going to press charges.

That makes possibly 3 groups going after Taj now, if SE is after them too for his repeat hackings.

The more people he pisses off the sooner he's going to get himself jailed.

lol
Can you post the proof here or a link to it?
Id love to see this lolScare tactic!

This reminds me of these absolute morons who sue people because "I sent him out to get my meth but the ******* took my money and never came back!"

And when you do sue him exactly what are you going to sue him for?
a million?
2 million?
100 million?
How about a kijillionzillion!

The more people he pisses off the less likely he is going to go to jail. In fact all it is going to do is make him appear more "god like" and fuel the fire even more. You want to make this guy a hero get mad at him all the more. I also really seriously doubt that anyone in this community has the clout to actually put this guy in jail or have him whacked(lol) so nothing can really stop him short of @#%^ing with the government, the mob or the IRS(see also the government).

Ever hear the phrase that the only bad press is no press at all?
So yeah I would seriously keep in mind that the only way to deal with him is to ignore him, NOT give out your password ever to anyone, and stop being an idiot sheep easy loltarget.

Taj is here to stay I assure you, I imagine hes going to keep getting stronger too because there is never going to be a lack of idiots who pay for cheating software. (My god at the pinnacle of idiocy is giving your card number out to a company that makes hacking software! I would be worried about waking up one day with nothing left in my bank checking account after such a transaction.)

Oh and btw, if you sue him you will get him on the news and make the guy famous. Yeah, you would turn him into the greatest hero of the community and make for a rather entertaining display. People will ask what is this FFXI game anyway?

It would a be feeding frenzy.

I really hate to contribute to this thread, but I had to stop and tell you to quit being such a god damn idiot.

If Taj (or anybody else) hacked into a database and posted it's data on public internet sites, it's illegal. Add to that the fact that the database involved contained information regarding credit card transactions, and that makes it even worse. It doesn't matter if the creator of FFXIApp sold the program and never reported his income to the IRS. It doesn't matter if FFXIApp itself is a violation of a software EULA. He can get sued separately, but it does not invalidate his case against Taj (or whoever did this).

Want to lynch someone for using a fish bot? Better have a lot of rope because this is a small, small percentage of the people who do.

I know this guy who runs a fish bot in windower and catches up on his comic/manga/book reading on the same computer while he's fishing. He says it just makes fishing less monotonous. Gonna lynch him too?

Yeah, I'd lynch him if I could. Too bad it's Final Fantasy so I'd have to settle for MPK. Say, does he play on Hades? What's his name? Just curious...

Sorry, but I fish and I don't need f$!?tards competing with me on the market. If you fishbot you have a competitive advantage in the market, since you're willing to set prices lower since you expend almost no effort in obtaining those fish, and you can flood the market with fish since you don't have to actually, y'know, devote your time to it, so you can clean your house, read your comics and books, walk the dog, go to work or school, etc. etc.

This is quite clearly a completely empty threat on the part of FFXIAP. The reason for that quite simply has nothing to do with the legal validity of the case they might have against Taj. The simple fact is that he appears to be a minor and more likely then not has few if any financial assets. As a result he is effectively judgement proof from a civil standpoint. Given this likelyhood no lawyer worth their fee would be willing to take this case on contingency and the cost of pursuing such a case would exceed anything that they could hope to recover from a judgement almost immediately.

From a criminal perspective it is unlikely that law enforcement would even devote any real resources to these cases given the huge number of far more serious cases that are open. Even in the highly unlikely event that these cases were actually pursued the worst that would be likely to happen is that he would recieve a period of probation with rested access to computers.

So bottom line, right or wrong, these are just empty threats. Now if old Taj did suceed in hacking IGE that would be a completely different story. They would have the financial resources to go after him and the threat to their business model would be such that they would be compelled to. Of course people would probably be calling for SE to erect a statue of him in Jeuno on every server if he he actually managed to pull it off!

I went back and it's true I wasn't making much sense most of the time. I got a bit too zealous.

It is easy to get caught up. Also it's easy to lose sight of what the different people are arguing. The fact that he did get that list doesn't mean that all the names on the list are real or that they are the correct person.

Hmmm.. In all fairness Hap(or whatever it was) did get kind of screwed over in this thread. Much of the super convoluted "Men in Black" story that people are saying he told, was stuff added by others. Don't get me wrong.. He didn't do the best job of explaining it but much of what he said was then twisted by other people to make it sound totally lame. I have watched people come in and slowly but surely twist his words until it finally ended up with people saying he said "someone must have snuck into my house and bought it and installed it on my PC" (paraphrased) This isn't some TV show where a person's inability to explain something to an interrogator's satisfaction = guilt.

I don't think people really understand how easy it is to manipulate what someone has said into being the opposite of what they actually did say. Typed words are especially easy to manipulate because there is no real way to convey any of the emotion or meaning behind that words that you would get if they were in front of you. Also if you can get the person flustered enough it becomes easier to twist their statements because you can often trick them into saying one thing even though they mean another.

I wanted to be a lawyer when I was younger. Have 4 people in my extended families who are lawyers (yes I know.. someone blowing up one of my family reunions really would make the world a better place lol) and I would often go with them to court. It is truly impressive to watch a person completely twist the statement of the witness. By the time it is over you can almost have the person who made the statement questioning their own account.
Good, good stuff.

If his accusers had let him completely explain himself with out jumping on every little thing it might have been easier. He didn't help himself much either. He kept saying that no one had shown any proof that he had done it and that the proof he had shown was enough to indicate that he hadn't done it. This isn't IRL trial. This is public opinion. As stupid as it is, you are guilty until proven innocent. Sucks a lot but that's the way it is. Humans aren't always good and noble creatures. We are cruel and petty and the need to blame someone > their right to be heard and explain.

Again.. As a whole I could give 2 sh*ts about this. I can't say I care about the Olympic scandal either.. It would suck if the people who were on her team had to give back their medals because of her cheating but oh well. Back on topic... I don't know hap, he isn't on my server, for all I know, he may not only be a user of that app thing he could be the one selling it. I was just pointing out that, in this case, he wasn't really given a fair chance.

His name was on the list so he must be guilty (and may very well be but that wasn't the point) and any attempt to say to the contrary is him trying to cover his butt.

not entirely true, in many states parents can be held accountable for the actions of their minor children.

interesting read

Further, measures from Idaho, Maryland, Missouri, and Oklahoma require parents to undertake restitution payments when children are not financially able to compensate their victims.
