Will FFXI last?Follow

#152 Mar 19 2007 at 10:21 AM Rating: Default
FFXI is dying, there is nothing more to it. Starting over is a pain in the *** for fresh players, and like previous posters mentioned; The game is in an end-game stage.

I have converted to WoW recently, simply because i was tired of going to the three same places everytime I wanted to get a level to 30 (Dunes, Qufim, Kazham). Tired of hacking away at the same mobs all the time, being in a party where no one says anything, and if you do you dont get an answer, wich pretty much makes you wanna shut up for the rest of the session.

Im guessing the lvl70-75 players still enjoy the end-game stuff, and thus they will probably make the life of FFXI a bit longer. However, FFXI will not grow in population. This game is anything but new-user-friendly considering todays standards in MMOs. A new PS3 launch will probably be as clumsy as the previous XBOX360 release.

I loved the game back in the good old days, where mostly any item was up for sale on the AH, and you could find out things together with your exp party. Where everybody was interested in doing the best SC.

And I will be the first one in line if SE ever decides to release another, more user-friendly MMO.

FFXI will need to find a way to upgrade their game to play on windows Vista system. As of right now it can't be played on any new computer's running this OS. Any word on if they are gonna upgrade their pc program to play with Windows Vista?

I just bought the 2007 Vana'diel collection in hopes to play it again soon, but my computer is ****. I'd like to think that this $30 purchase, and the $20 I'd be paying per month wouldn't be a waste. If FFXI is at its end-game phase it only makes sense that WoW would be too, which is disappointing because since playing my first MMORPG (FFXI about a year ago) and getting to Lv.50 I got addicted to it. The vast interaction, and the alternate reality that was Final Fantasy - the love of all time.

If this is only to last another four years, it's reasonable to assume that those four years will be full of struggle in declining population, thinning of quality players, and overall deterioration in the quality of the game. It's depressing. And how does this compare to World of Warcraft? While playing FFXI all anyone ever talked about was how much better WoW is and how this compares to that, yet they were playing FFXI. I came into Vana'diel considerably late. I was bashed by hardcore, SERIOUS mmorpg players like being hit by a train. What I'm afraid of is the population of either game being the elitist mightier-than-thou type. I understand there is great effort in rising to end-game status, but it's not worth a 'newb' joining a game full of people who play with this mentality. What I'm asking is that if I rejoined Final Fantasy XI now would the experience be worthwhile? Would it last more than a few years? Or, if not, what up-and-coming MMORPG should I devote myself to so that I can get a jump-start on it and bring contrast to majority of end-game players?

When FFXI came out I bought the guides, I read, and I was so excited to play it was really all I could think about. Pathetic as it sounds, yes; I dreamed of being and end-game mage/summoner helping new people start their journeys and being a reputable resource. What I need is a game that will last, something new or something that has about a decade of estimated remaining life (and I say LIFE in the context of the new and interesting and entertaining feeling that any newb would get) so that I can fulfill my dream - even if it's not the beloved Final Fantasy... I would think this kind of feeling could only be granted through an MMORPG, or is that too much to expect from a video game?

There is still new content coming out and the game could easily fill up your time and there is alot to see.

I seem to see a split, jaded people who have 20 level 75 jobs complaining and worrying about the game status and server levels, too hard to get "insert item here" blah blah LS drama. They will get bored and quit eventually. Hang around for the new content.

Then there's the people who just like playing final fantasy with other people because it's a final fantsy game, maybe their highest job is 30-60 with lots of other jobs leveled. They will always be coming and going because it's final fantasy online. Problem is it can just be to hard on them, high casualty rate, but always more.

XI is going through mid-life growing pains at the moment I think. I would like to think it will stablise into a great mature community.

Also everytime a new final fantasy comes out, there is renewed intrest. The job system really helps. Maybe they should make 4 man party's possible to eleviate the not enough jobs seeking in my range problem a bit.

My 3 gil.

"Is FFXI dying" threads seem to have died down a bit, so I'm unstickying this and adding it to Legendary Threads.

Great! But did they die because this was stickied?

Now, can we get a "How to play FFXI on Vista" sticky...
#162 Mar 23 2007 at 11:35 AM Rating: Decent
I STILL can't understand the Vista problem. I have Vista Home Premium installed on my roommate's and my own computers, and other than switching the .exe files for PlayOnline Viewer and FFXI to Windows XP Service Pack 2 compatibility mode, I didn't have to do anything. But then, i guess people don't post to forums unless they have an issue to post.

Oh well.

wow, what a pointless post.

nvm :)

well this is **** to be honest. although FFXI is by far technically the best mmo i have played, it is clearly dead for new players. i have to wait at least 5 hours to get a party invite, making one is so difficult apart from on weekends. the AHs are empty, there is nobody to warp you anywhere apart from in jeuno. this game relies on alot of community interaction and due to the lack of players, parts of the game are breaking down. (ie arties for drg's) :D

Hmm lets see, I came back after over a year because wow endgame just sucks.

Over the last few days I have seen atleast 15 people in the dunes with no subjob. This game is far from dead. When server populations get to low SE will close servers and transfer people over to fill up others. These games make money even with only a few servers going.

EDIT: If you want to know how bad a MMO can get before they shutdown, look into Planetside, The game has at max 10k people from what I have seen ingame scaterd over 3 servers, they continue to update and even do events.

This game is far from over

i agree. i dont think the game is dead. far from it, but people are losing interest in it due to several problems posted above.

with all the bannings and with server populations dropping like a rock i think SE needs to be proactive on this issue and combine servers. i think the bannings can wait. im more interested in getting a party or maybe help with something than a bunch of RMT crafters(no offense to those legit crafters, i know things arent exactly good for you guys).

sure there was a little lag but it was fun to converse with so many different people. i just think its sad to have to wait over an hour for a party in the dunes(just an example).

ill probably play ffxi till they turn off the last server.

I'm just getting back into the game, and went to the dunes as a 11whm with no subjob. Well someone trained and a gob took me out. I fell to lvl10, and my lvl11 gear that i had just bought fell off. Then i got a party invite, joined party, with a beater stick and a travelers hat, and they all stared at me. They said [Do you speak any English?] and i said yes, then they said RMT? and i said no, i was just 11, and died. Soon as i lvl again i'll put all my gear back on, and i'll have cure2 ready to go.

I guess with all the RMT bannings, they're starting over, so it's not uncommon to see many no subjob people in the dunes, and typically they have crappy gear, if any. There was a decent amount of people in the dunes for a wednesday night though, my party did well, but it was no where near what it was like 2-3 years ago the first couple times i went through the dunes, where the population was quite high, and you couldn't find a camp.

As far as up and coming MMO's to look out for, don't bother. I spent the past 8 months beta testing a few, and a friend beta testing others, and playing a couple new live releases. If you really love ffxi, it's style, it's massive wealth and variety of content, don't bother with the current ones coming, as you'll only be disappointed, and finding yourself wondering "if i go pick up ffxi right now, i can get to 10 in a day or two, will there be any parties in the dunes?" within 2 months of start-up.

I agree that a couple servers combining wouldn't be entirely bad, to up the population, cut maintenance costs, which can then be put towards development of new and cool stuff that will attract new people to the game. New people attracted, with servers combined, will mean those new people will have people to party with as they level, instead of hunting for a group forever, getting discouraged, and quitting after the free trial is up.

if anyone is tired of playing or doesnt play FFXI Please can i have your information because i bought a used game that doesnt have a registration code.
I am grateful to whoever gives me their info.
#168 Mar 30 2007 at 4:51 AM Rating: Decent
Buying used games that require online registration code is a bad idea. I have no idea why stores even take stuff like this back, because the person could have used the code, installed the game, etc, and is on their merry way, while you sit with the cd's, and can't do a damned thing with them. In short, don't buy this game used, or any other MMO, or anything that has a registration code that must be registered online, which is virtually all games these days.

I have just recently started playing ffxi again. I first played about two years ago or so, and I loved it. I am currently on the gilgamesh server (Same server as my previous account), and there has been an enormous drop of players. It takes me about two hours to find a party to level my level 10 warrior up. There is just not as many people as before. Do you think the population will jump back up?

Count me in as another who has quit.

Actually, after about 5 months of not so much as logging in, it finally dawned on me: why am I paying S-E anymore? The answer that I put off for so long but finally had to come to grips with: FFXI is dying. And it's a slow, dreadful slide into the Great Beyond (from this vantage point). Thus, the cancellation of Content IDs.

I don't think there's anything that can be done to keep the game worthwhile -- in the end you're just running around endgame trying to looking pretty for the camera. And the biggest contributor to this fall from grace would be the humongous timesink that encompasses the route to the top, including crafting, farming, fishing, knowing the right people and getting into the best circles, etc. I put up with it for years, so I'd know. It's very turn-off'ish to new players, I'd imagine.

4. Finally, my opinion on FFXI it's that it will be around for a long time. There's really no problem to pick the game now and start playing. It's in fact a better moment that it was 6-8 months ago.

I disagree with this statement. Looking at my server, it is next to impossible to lvl a new job, there is just not enough players. on average there are only 400-500 from lvl 5-65 on my server at a time. Thats not much. And you may only see 30 people lfp in that whole range. (took lvl 1-5 out because alot of mules)

What ends up is in your lvl range maybe one other person is lfp, you cant even make a party, and there are only 1-2 actually parties going on that lvl range if lucky.

You are almost forced to solo until lvl 20 minimum so a powerlvler is almost a must.

This will discourage new players and will ulimately destroy the game because very little new blood is added and when players get bored of endgame and want to lvl a new job, they cant.

Almost if not everytime i look, there is more lvl 75's on the server then lvl 5-65 combined. This is a serious problem.

If they dont do something to get more players playing, the game will die, it may not look like it will soon, but with the setup and forced partying that is designed in this game, when it goes down it wont be gradual it will be fast.

I have given up lvling any jobs because even as a bard you can lfp for days low lvl.

And what server are you on? And why in the hell do you need a PL from 1-20?

LMAO I don't even pt til I hit 20, it's a waste of time and I can level just as fast from 1-20 soloing as someone can in a pt or with a PL soloing. Sometimes I can level faster soloing from 1-20 then someone who is in a pt from any level from 1-20.

Believe me I've watched friends who pt'd from 11-20 at the same level as me soloing, stayed online longer than me and I've still beat them to 20 in less time.

But at least on my server Bismarck it's easy as hell to get a pt from 10-40. It's after 40 that it starts to get difficult to get a pt.

At any given time the # of accounts on Bismarck range from 1800-3200. But after each ban it dips by 200-300. And I even have 10 ppl on my friends list that are either taking a break from the game or are no longer playing the game. That's just on my friends list.

This is true, in the past 2 months I've seen dozens of new ppl on Bismarck. We even have a few of the noobs in my LS. And in the past 6 months there have been alot of new ppl as well. Alot that still play now started just 6 months ago.

This game isn't dead or even close.

But it would be nice to see them pair off servers, as it would make things a whole lot better as far as the population and such. I'd enjoy seeing my server paired off and have the population doubled.

Currently you can roam through the dunes and only find about 6-8 pt's at it's peak, and at any given time you'd only find about 2-3 pt's in the jungles. A far cry from when I started playing a year ago, and I got ******* at for soloing in the dunes and stealing possible mobs from the overcrowded areas.

But I use the AH sales and the pop # when I'm on to see if it's dieing or not.....and as far as Bismarck is concerned it's not even close to dieing.

as soon as i get some $ im getting it for pc. i had it for ps2 but i got my xbox live for halo 2 the same day and, well, i was kind of distracted. but now i have WoW. it was okay at first but now its just really boring and i dont like the "cartoony" feel and look of the game. as for ffxi dying? i dont know hahaha i guess not since ill be getting it soon!
#176 Apr 01 2007 at 8:46 PM Rating: Default
XI still has some things going for it. WoW sucks so there all going to have to find another game soon, most other MMORPG's suck, and they ruined XII so everyone has to play this one.

All you really need is 6 friends on the server to play most of the game anyway.
