Hey everyone. I'm on odin and just got my red mage to 65. By this time ive already bought the dark, light, ice, wind, and thunder staff. So that left me with three more nice staves to add to my collection. Next on my list was to get the Earth Staff. So before starting to farm for it I decided to check out the price. 350k.....I remembered how only a month and a half ago it was 100k less. now before i go on about the Earth Staves let me tell you how much i got the other ones for. or a rough estimate so to speak.
light staff:150k
dark staff:200k
ice staff:30k
thunder staff:80k
wind staff:250k

Even though I thought the earth staff was expensive enough, i went out and started farming for it. It took me two days to come up with 380k(the extra 30k just in case) and definitly some patience. So upon going back to the AH I was excited I would get to add the Eatrth Staff to my collection. Before i make my purchase i look at the price history.........looks like two days was far too long to get the earth staff for 350k......it had now shot up to 460k....O.o....Well of course I flipped out seeing how the price had jumped 110k in its already ridiculous price. Sure the staff could help me stick slow better, and give me a -20 damage intake...but the staff along shouldnt be worth so much money, and i have a good spider torque for enfeebling matters. Well I ended up getting the fire staff and the water staff to add to my collection.
water staff:250k
fire staff:200k

Im just wondering how much staves on your server costs and if i made the right move by not getting an earth staff for.....460k...Your input is most appreciated and thank you.

Dude, I'd kill to pay 460K for an Earth Staff... last week for my Maat fight, on Fairy, I was forced to pay freaking 520K for mine. The last sale was 500K even... *growl*

I think its about time we start hunting people down for this.

You won't want to be making these till you are level 100 +3 >.>

Have a look at ingredient prices and you'll know why.

I'm a 37RDM on titan and knowing that I'm going to be needing at least 5 staves, I've just been watching the AH and buying when they're low I got mine for:

Earth - 300k (reg. 350k-400k)
Wind - 200k (reg. 230k-260k)
Ice - 15k (reg. 50k)
Light - 80k (reg. 150k)
Dark - 100k (reg. 180-200k)

A Red Mage probably won't need 5 you probably could get away with just the dark and ice staff, with a light staff if you end up being the main healer for your parties. You should only 'need' the other elements if you are having a problem landing enfeebling spells of that element and even then the AF gear you'll be starting to get, or the glamor jupon if you've finished the Promivions, will help with that more then +10% to that element.

Anyway back on topic, on Kujata last i looked both the light and dark staves are about 170k-190k and I picked up an Ice staff for 20k in someones bazzar. I believe the ice staff is at 30k again in Jeuno.

Jeuno AH - Odin Server (we change a lot so I'm listing them):

Listing NQ then HQ below.

Dark: 180k
Plutos: 1,500,000
Light: 200-300k
Apollos: 1,500,000
Water: 230k
Neptunes: 2,100,000
Thunder: 80k
Jupiters: 3,000,000
Earth: 450,000
Terras: 2,500,000
Wind: 270k
Austers: 2,700,000
Ice: 60k
Aquilos: 2,900,000
Fire: 200k
Vulcans: 2,500,000

BTW, I got my staves cheaper than normal. The best place to get them is the starter cities (they appear occasionally and tend to be much lower than in Jeuno).

On Shiva, I bought a couple last week. As prices change quite often, they may not be the same - but it'll be near these prices.

Ice: 20k
Thunder: 80k-90k
Dark: 145k-155k
Fire: 180k
Earth: 340k

Don't remember the other ones. Light is the most expensive, I believe...not at 400k, but nearing it. For wind and water I have no clue.

before complaining about prices of staves... go check where the price of the beads are... a lot of times... (on my server all the time) you loose gil on a nq staff. cause beads are like 400-500k on my server.

Prices are about 100-150k for most staves except for Thunder and Ice which are about 8-9k each.

For a while Light was at 30k, Dark and Fire (should have purchased Fire then ><) were at 50k. Beads are never cheap on the AH history though, I always see it in the mils O.o Unless I'm not looking at the right types.

Ramuh:

Light: 150k
Dark: 95k
Earth: 260k
Fire: 140k
Water: 200k
Wind: 400k
Ice: 10k
Thunder: 60k

These prices are actually quite a bit more than they were when I bought most of the staves last week. Every one of them other than Wind was sub-80k for some reason.

Actually, I've always been rather pissed at high level Woodworkers for the asinine prices of NQ staves, as I'm a Woodworker. The elemental ores necessary to make the beads are all like 200k+, and usually the beads go for 300k+. I had never understood the pricing scheme, other than perhaps Woodworkers with 100+6 skill trying to keep lower level Woodworkers from possibling profiting on NQ versions, while jacking the HQ cost through the roof.

In fact, here's the cost of beads on Ramuh, which you can compare to the cost of a NQ stave:

Dark Bead: 300k
Earth Bead: 450k-500k
Fire Bead: 350k
Ice Bead: 350k
Light Bead: 400k
Lightning Bead: 450k
Water Bead: 350k

I think the people buying NQ staves on Ramuh have it nice, the Woodworkers who produce the NQ staves are usually out 200k+ from producing an NQ stave. The best you can hope for, on average, is a 25% HQ rate (holding aside the possibility of getting everything right so you can guarantee an HQ), at 100+6 skill (+3 from gear, +3 from advanced support).

I just sold my dark staff for 70k, I know I paid over 100k for it. The prices are dropping on them, that much is given.

I got my Thunder Staff a couple weeks ago on Shiva for 13k. I am not sure about the others, but I think the highest is Earth Staff for 350k. I bought a Terra's staff for my Paladin a couple months ago for 2.1 million.

yeah... on Shiva, I felt ripped off because I bought my Ice staff 7-8 months ago for 20k... nowadays, I wouldn't buy it if it was over 10k, and most of the time it isn't even at 10k =P

The reason for this is a mismatch between the demand for HQ vs NQ staves and the HQ rate on the synth. People want the HQ staves, and are willing to pay a lot of gil for them. Woodworkers synth staves to meet the demand for the HQ variety, and sell those for as much as people are willing to pay. As a byproduct, the crafter then has many more of the NQ variety than he would be able to sell at a break-even or profitable price. Supply exceeds demand, and the price on the NQ staves is forced down.

Esentially, those of us who have been purchasing HQ staves are subsidizing the price of NQ staves for everyone else. Sucks for woodworkers who can't HQ the staves yet, but it's a Good Thing for your average guy working through level 51+ on his first job, and wouldn't be able to afford NQ staves at the actual cost of the synth.

Before you complain too much about the prices, remember that before people figured out how to grow the elemental ores, NQ staves ALL cost over a million gil, and HQ staves were indeed quite rare. And honestly, if I had to pay 1M gil each for NQ staves, I would, because they are absolutely worth it.

My problem is that there are so many jobs that seem to rate HQ staffs as good.

To me it is obviously a SMN item. -2 perpetuation or -3 perpetuation? that is 50% more effect on HQ. Now look at BLM, 10% or 15%, that is 5% more effect on HQ. WHM hardly needs any of them, and I can't see the big deal for RDM or BRD to really go for HQ.

And frankly I wonder where everyone gets their 3 mil for each HQ staff. It took me 6 months to buy 6 staffs for about 600-800k each. Then in 1-2 months they trippled or quadrupled.

What on earth happened those months? Half price at buying gil? Or everyone got to level 75, sold all gear and picked up summoner?

I've always been really slow at making gil and I'm still slow, so I'm simply trying to get my friend to make some cheap ones, he just levels ww too slowly ;)

PS. beads have the same price still, so the only ones raising the prices are the staff buyers and crafters. Poor goldsmithers don't get a dime more.

Um, unless I'm awfully confused, I think 5 is also 50% of 10.

And please don't get angry at the Woodworkers over this. Competition has driven elemental staff prices so incredibly low that a lot of people wonder if it's even possible to make a profit on these items anymore at 100+3 skill. The cost of an end product is always, always determined by the difficulty of its base materials; crafters have little to no say over it.

4 million for 1 HQ staff?! Wow. The approximate prices on Garuda are as follows (from what I can remember):

Light staff - 85-100k | Apollo's staff - 1.5m
Dark staff - 140-160k | Pluto's staff - 1.6m
Thunder staff - 80-100k | Jupiter's staff - 2m
Earth staff - 260-290k | Terra's staff - 1.4m
Water staff - 140k | Neptune's staff - 1.5m
Ice staff - 17-25k | Aquilo's staff - 2.3m
Fire staff - 200k | Vulcan's staff - 2m
Wind staff - 240-280k | Auster's staff - 2.2m

As a 75 RDM and 57 SMN, I only own 2 HQ staves: Apollo's and Neptune's. I doubt I will ever own the rest, because I honestly wouldn't use them enough to justify spending such a huge amount of money. Neptune's I have because Leviathan is my favourite avatar, so she's cheaper to keep out with the HQ, and I own Apollo's staff for a similar reason - free Carbuncle (with JSE and Carby Mitts).

The other, NQ staves...I couldn't live without now as RDM. I have them macro-ed in for most Enfeebling magic and they make a big difference. Yes, you can get away with only having Dark and Ice till the early 60s, but once you start using them all for spells, you'll wonder how you did without them before. :p

They are a lot of money when your first job is at 51, but they are certainly worth it and it's great when you've saved up for them all.

WOW

On Sylph, the cheapest is ice staff, like 10k
Earth and Wind are like 130k or so
Light is around 100k
Dark is like 80k

600k can pretty much get you full set.

HQ ones are all 1.5mil - 2mil each
