Fact: This link has come up many times before.

Fact: BBB can't do anything about SE other than give a little rating.

Go ahead fanboys rate me down, I knew it would happen as you do it to anyone who dares speak ill of your beloved SE. As to the person who said EQ2 looks better all the time, don't bother, SoE who runs EQ2 is as hard as this may be to believe, far worse at customer service than SE could ever wish to be.

Lots of complaints about failing to uphold their contract.

I bet all of those were whiny-*** people ******** about maintainance that call that not honoring their contract. And I bet they did it without even looking at any contract and trying to find where Square promises to provide how much uptime.

Seriously. If maintaining an online game bothers you that much, speak with your money and leave.

Don't give us this **** of "get it right the first time" unless you have first-hand experience maintaining a network and servers that carry traffic of a comparable size and type.

Funny.. In my near two years of playing FFXI I have had more problems with customer service than my 5+ playing Everquest/EQII.

SoE provides all of the North American customer service for FFXI (including GM support), in much the same way that SE provides the Japanese customer service for EQII. That said, even though the customer service is the same, SoE seems to be considerably more successful at keeping their servers up than SE at themoment. Then again, it's probably more of a "grass is greener" issue.

Nonetheless, the BBB is far far FAR from an unbiased third party (and as others have intimated, the BBB has no authority whatsoever, nor is it any sort of government organization). The BBB has a long history of failing to investigate and follow up on reports, AND has a history of showing significant favoritism towards member businesses (who pay a significant chunk of change to be a "member" of the BBB). I agree that Square-Enix's customer service sucks, but I wouldn't trust anything that the BBB has to say about anyone.

Did you actually read the page. It says that they rate them F becuase they dont respond to the BBB every time some moron files a BBB complaint becuase they dont like how SE runs the game. They also list how many complaints the BBB has gotten about SE,and say that in fact,some were responded to satisfactoraly. Out of all its customers 47 have complained to the BBB. Of those 15 were resolved. In 8 cases,they refused to adjust the matter and said that the terms of service were clear that they didnt have to. In 28 cases they didnt respond. Out of all their customers,for almost 2 years,47 BBB complaints. Now look up Blizzard,they get a BB beacause they they respond to the BBB,but they have had over 350 complaints. It also goes into more detail than it does for SE. Look at the things people complained about. Look at what a "response" is. It seems all SE needs to do to get a A rating is to send everyone a form letter. (They should do that,in japanese =) )


EDIT:
It just occured to me why SE doesnt usually respond. its not their their reponsibility. Its SOE that is responsible for responding the BBB. The requests that go to SE probobally end up on the circular file.

Which is why i said "just about all of them" not all of them. WoW isnt the only other MMORPG.

Usually I don't care about long maintenances (not even the 48h ones of a few months back. The reason why i'm a bit irked is only becase they did two 10h maintenances on 2 thursday in a row... which is my off day.

pretty much sucks.
I *did* find something else to do... but 13 hours is a long time.. cleaning is over and i'm out of "good" tv shows to watch.

Good thing i'm going to bed in 2h

Blizzard, who runs WoW has a BB rating on BBB, so there goes the all MMO's have bad ratings theory. As to those rating down anyone who dare speak ill of SE, I'd bet real money that 95% of those fanboys have their parents pay for their account, so they don't see why it is annoying as hell to those of us that expect some service from those we pay.

The listing on the BBB is not for SquareEnix, which is a Japanese company. That listing is for the US portion of the company, which basically does translation, marketing, and customer service work.
