Thats too bad, quit :D

Anyway, as I've said..as many other people said...

When they change EQUIPMENT things don't always work instantly, if you ever tried programming, you will know for a fact things aren't always 100% correct when you code something :)

They only had 8 hours to perform there upgrade and test it. Since I program for a living, you should also know you never release something without testing it. If they were having a problem or needed time to test, they should have extended the first 8 hour maintenance.

I'm a little disconcerted that their response to every problem seems to be to run a "recovery". My guess is this basically amounts to rebooting the server and replaying all the database transactions from the latest backups + current logs or something. It sure doesn't seem to accomplish all that much.

"Hrm, Router crapped out. Nobody here knows Cisco.. a Cisco engineer won't be available for 6 hours? DDoS!"

People are catching on that it's not DDoS? erm.. 10 hour maintenance! No really, it was planned.. oh maybe not. Ok! it's an emergency maintenance!"

Dude, STFU. DDoS' are easily executed, and happens all the times... FFXI is unfortunate to have both a JP and NA player base, which hate eachother, for the most part. Any game gets occasional DDoSes. And btw, who ever said 'Omg, we are getting DDoS'ed, emergency maintanence!'? Ever think it's possible that the maintanence had a coding bug? Or that they have 20000 players trying the connect at the same time overflows the server?

When did the server *ever* crash on FFXI?
When did the router *ever* crash on FFXI?
Poor programming happens with *everything* and *every game,* otherwise, there wouldn't be a need to make updates and/or newer versions.

Honestly, get a friggin life. Omg! 13 hours! zomgz! I want my FFXI which is being made better and I don't want it to be fixed, but I'll b*tch about DDoSes they aren't being fixing!

Some people are honestly stupid... (-,-;)

My money is going for what? im paying for a service im not getting and its getting abit on the ridiculous side, i was cool after the first 3 updates this month, but this is pathetic. Its not that i dont understand that its hard keeping things running smooth, but SE cant honestly believe that we are going to put up with this forever. All i can say is that i can't wait for FFXII.

The main Reason SE does this is because the GMs need time to Claim the NMs on their Gilseller accounts, GMs = Gilsellers, it makes perfect sense cause the tougher the game is to play = the longer game spam you play = the more money SE gets each month from you, and it also gives GMs a second under the table job to sell Gil and stuff when they're working undercover. So, best advice.... NEVER MPK A GILSELLER!

ok, I'm not even going to get into the 8 hour or so maintenance that nearly all MMORPGs do on a weekly or 2 weekly basis. What I am going to laugh at is that people are surprised. SE has had a history of getting near the end of the maintenance, and than realizing that they needed to tweak something near the end and extending the maintenance. The one time they don't do this, things do exactly as what would of happened those other times, system problems cropped up that REQUIRED maintenance. The fact is, they made an effort to finish on time and people are pissed off by it. I played Ragnarok Online for a year....this maintenance in nothing. NOTHING. Try "we will be fixing our software for a week." "the scheduled update will have to be extended for the next 3 months". THAN you can *****. NOT before.

No offense, but you have no idea what you are talking about.

Companies with as much revenue as SE should not be making any software changes to live instances of the game, or hardware changes to public servers, without first vigorously stress testing it on test servers.

The maintenance was extended. After it was done some people got in and played including myself. I actually made 10k selling Bubble Chocolate and even HQ'd one and got a Heart Chocolate. As for now it's extended another 3 hours. I can understand why SE gave access so early. They have a world wide customer base and don't want to lose any customers. So give all the kiddies, cry babies, whiners, and other ******* two hours. It sucks I know. I'd love to play, but guess what? I can't so I'm going to hit the sack. I'm sure by tomorrow evening it'll be done and fixed. ***** all you want. It still won't change anything. They have to fix problems that we cause, and problems they cause, and problems their equipment causes. Anyway I'm done. Good night. Peace.

Normally I'm not one to complain about this kind of thing, i just live with it, but to me, with this much Maintence that SE has thrown out at us...it's just plain Dissapointing. They do what they have to do to get things fixed, but they should, oh, dedicate a day or 2 getting everything fixed, so we'd be without FFXI for a day or two, but we wouldn't have to go through all this ><. (And i've only gotten costumes from the npcs ;;) I'll be trying it in the morning ><. But SE really let me down with all this...I'm not trying to bash on them, Hell, I really LIKE SE. I'm just dissapointed, that's all =P

For those of you bad at math, the game has been under maintainace 2 days this month. That's not half the month. That's not 70% of the time. That's 1/15.

For most people that would be a refund of ~$1.

Your money goes to keeping the equipment working. Or would you prefer they never fix things and just let them break, so that you have to try a dozen times every day -- not just maintainance days -- to log in, and occasionally data (like your accomplishments that day) are just lost?

I didn't think so. So shove it.

If you think that things like "a router ******** up" or "a buffer overflow error" are being blamed on DDoS, you understand very little about these networking situations. At the very least you come up with some awful examples of other possibilities. Maintaining heavily-used networks and servers like this isn't easy, and it's expensive. Whiny-*** customers don't help.

I personally agree with this. DDoS attacks have been around since 1995 (10 years ago). They halted companies for very, very long period of times however around 1996/1997 there was a fix for this (and it has only improved). SE seems to be the only company who is having these types of problems, and other companies that do have this problem can actually fix it within a short period of time not over a multiple of months.

Also, for those who are coming saying "Have you ever tried this? Stuff doesnt work right away yada...yada.."

Do some of you even work in the field? I yield to understand how a equipment exchange of any nodes, routers, or even servers can take 10 hours. If I was working by myself, and it took me 10 hours to exchange equipment then I sure as hell wouldnt have that job shortly after.
