Crap, I almost forgot, happy halloween Square =)

Edit: By the way Dizz, SE has said on several occassions that popular forums such as this are an excellent customer feedback source.

Think about it. It's a free survey, updated every second of what players want and think.

My two cents:

We should all complain en masse!

It might do nothing, it might get SE moving - Who knows? ******** and whining about SE in this forum does nothing, we need to make our voices heard. Se are tryin to fix problems, but they do not reimburse us with any type of compensation. They know we will all come back and keep paying. But mass complaints do seem to have an effect. Maybe SE will refund October? Who knows, only one way to push em to that conclusion, everyone complain.

Oh and when the argument turns, people always seem to pick on spelling lol - Why? So what if people cant spell? Who cares, if your argument isnt to do with the thread or u havent got a reply thats valid, dont bother, trolling is so last season :D

So guys, get those emails going to SE en masse! Give em hell for what they do to us :D

Hmm.
Let's do a bit of math. I won't side with anybody in this case, I just want to try to post a couple of facts. For my example I'm going to use a 28 day cycle for simplicity. The person in my example will work a 8 hour job, five days a week, and we'll assume they get 8 hours of sleep every day.

How many hours in a 28 day cycle?
672
How many days are week ends and how many days are work days?
20 (480 hours/~71.5% of the cycle) work days and 8 (192 hours/~28.5% of the cycle) week ends
How many of those hours are dedicated to work/school?
160 hours (1/3 of a work day ~24% of the cycle)
How many of the hours are dedicated to sleep?
224 hours of sleep throughout the 28 day cycle. (1/3 of the cycle)

That gives about 288 hours left in the cycle. That's ~43% of the cycle left.

I'm going to assume they give half of their time doing things with their families, other hobbies (yeah, right), eating, etc. The other half will be for playing the FFXI.
144 hours dedicated to other things, which is ~21.5% of the cycle. The stats for this would be the same as time spent for playing FFXI.

So 144 hours playing FFXI. That can be about 4 hours of playing every work day and 8 hours playing every week end.

I had wrote this up really fast, so if my math is way off, I apologize in advance and just disregard this post ^^;;;

Aw, SE fixes things. Those bastards.

Start your own game, with your own servers and thousands of players, and make it work flawlessly. And don't post another fucking thing until you do.

OP said what we are all thinking, those rating him down are just the people who didn't dare post it themselves because they were scared of being rated down.

if you think this kind of treatment from a company is normal for the money you pay, you obviously have your mommy pay for it.

If this sh** keeps up I'm going to cancel my whole account and get back to FPS type games (Battlefield 2 anyone?). Pardon my frustration, but I finally had a ZM5 run scheduled for tonight after 3 weeks of trying ><

My observations about this post and the people posting:

1. A lot of people are fed up just like me, some rant and cuss more than others mainly due to the fact that there have been more outages in the past month and more specifically the last two weeks than I can ever remember in over a year of playing. I pay a monthly fee and I expect the game to be reasonably available, my resonable amount may be very different than yours. My yahoo mail is free and I can't remember the last time it was down, I pay 18.95 a month (mules, lots of mules)to SE and they are down so much more. Maybe not as much as other MMORPGs, but I don't play those and I really don't care.

2.If you weren't trying to get on and failed, you wouldn't be here now would you? You can't tell me you weren't disappointed even if you were a casual player that has 5 hot girfriends and a 6 pack in the frige you're working on.

3. SE doesn't care in general because most people will complain and swear up and down that they will move on, but they don't because most of us have waay too much time invested in this game to even think about starting over in a new game.

4. People expect people to keep their word. SE says that it will be avaiable at 8pm pst and it's now going to be something like 11:20pm pst. Why does every maintenance run over all of a sudden, do they go out for some sliders at dinnertime and all get sick and spend 3 hours in the bathroom during maintenance?

I have to agree with JerseyProphet, maintenence is a necessary evil, this I know. But come on, this is getting to be ridiculous. Don't tell me to chill out, go outside, stop giving SE my money, because if you do...I will tell you to suck it Trebek...suck it long and suck it hard. Rate me down as much as you want, I could honestly care less.

I pay money for a service, Final Fantasy XI. I expect to be able to use said service. However, I cannot use the service. Why? Because apparently SE cannot fix one thing without ******** up 30 other things. I work hard for my money, and I don't have much of it, so when I pay for something I expect to be able to use it.

Let's just take a peek at the list of problem on the POL site, shall we?

OMG you work for an ISP!? I'm astounded, you must be the most technically astute person I've ever had the priveledge of talking too!! I workd for an ISP in high school. I've worked for IBM for 7 years. 5A5858 look me up. Listen, in 10 hours I and my team could replace and reprogram anything. In the case of SE, we're talking about a team of trained individuals (Supposedly) working as a team to accomplish and ELEMENTARY goal. Replacing a "POL Server backbone" I feel is an intentionaly vague statement. Too which Backbone are they refering? And yes, those of you that don't know what a backbone is will site wiki, and all manner of trash definitions to flame this. A backbone is, by definition, the infrastructure upon which a system rests. Be it the internet, POL's networking, or POL's Server system.

They said that they were replacing the POL SERVER backbone. They did NOT say the POL NETWORKING backbone. That tells me that the infrastructure keeping their server cluster together is being replaced. That tells me that switches and cable are being swapped out, along with networking hardware and software required to support said hardware. I don't care if it's 10 servers, or 100 servers in the cluster. It CANNOT take more than 10 hours under the WORST conditions. OK maybe the worst conditions, like 1 guy with a severe heroin addiction going through withdrawal and cranked on caffeine trying to tackle this.

So I say again..OMG you work for an ISP? Try graduating college, get a little exp. under your belt. Living in the real world for a little bit will tell you...If you mess up this bad in a real life IT situation and have to answer to more than 200 customers... You're looking for a job friday morning, because this my friend, is completely unacceptable.

Good day.

It makes me wonder if some of you are hoping to get a Kraken club in your inbox for kissing SEs ***.

At any rate, the sad reality of the situation plays out as follows....

If you had an internet provider who had outages on average of 5-6 days a month, you would complain. One of two things would happen as a result, the company would either convince you to maintain there service through some sort of incentive such as a temporary price break or otherwise, or you would change providers.

In this case, we are all screwed. Noone else is offering FFXI servers to play on. So if you want to play this game, you are at the whim and fancy of SE. Monopolies never work out well for the subscriber.

So, in the spirit of the physicist who is about to blow himself up in the lab, all we can do is say...

"Ah, hell..."

BINGO - Maybe you should get lost. Take your guidance that we're ever so grateful for, and that we so dearly requested with you.

Edit: I'm not just talking to this guy either, I'm talking about the (now seems to be less) people that think it's ok that SE randomly has down times. You all think you need to come in here and defend them when that's really not the topic or objective is it.

Hey, while I don't buy into this policy with respect to things like government: if you don't like it, leave. Your angry comments are meaningless if you continue to buy Square's products and pay them for playing Final Fantasy 11. It means that you're idly ********* but you're not really fed up, because you're still playing.

So either shove it, or quit.

Their uptime and reliability is pretty damned good for an MMO. I think I've experienced an active server crash (where a whole zone or world becomes inacessible to everyone unexpectedly) once since the release of the game.

i take offense to that comment about 1/16 a tank of gas.

i really do. First off, yes i want my money back ill say it again.. YES I WANT MY MONEY BACK now..... it may be 45cents 12cents 7cents.. whatever it is.. times that by the number of people that SE would be refunding.. Im sure next time they will try there best(harder) to not have to give that money out again. Wouldnt you agree? Dont ever tell anyone that they are Stupid/cheap for wanting whats right when they work hard as hell for it.. that just low

And like Jersy is trying to explain, if you just listen for a second... i will not quit the game cause i do infact love it, the point we non SE fanboys are trying to make here is THE SERVICE is the problem.we just want some sign on there part that they truly are sorry and/or are realllllllly trying to fix the problem.

as for posting on alla.. im just here makeing a point, though i see its falling on dead ears.. thing is i email/called square and BBB but seams thats falling on dead ears also..

Could it be cause SE knows they have legions of Blind followers?

This kind of crap is rather annoying. Like the one guy said their Server admins must be horrible there. I've been in IT for a while and you are expected so much uptime on a server. normal uptime for a business is usually anywhere from 95-99% uptime. If you servers are down longer than that you have a problem. Their uptime is horrible even when they aren't doing maintenence. I will probably still continue to play FF but I will find myself slowly moving away probably to DnD Online if it's any good.

If there was a really kick *** MMORPG right now FF would probably not have a very long life from here on out. luckily for Square there isn't a lot of great competition right now. I'm not much interested in WoW either. Planetside was unbelieveable when it started but sucks now. For the time being there really isn't a better alternative which really sucks.

How old are you? Everyone knows that Business Ethics is the most controversial topic. You cannot be 100% ethical and still be a VERY profitable business. It's impossible in an imperfect world.

Seriously, try to think about what you post before you do so.
