The truth hurts. That's why.

Old school lvl 75, rank 10 players who got there through hell, fire, and brimstone, are "Impossible to gauge." These new lvl 75, rank 10 players who burned and spammed their way there are "Decent challenge" at best.

I have to completely agree with pretty much everything here. I absolutely refuse to use high-level help, because it feels too lazy and too much like cheating. If I wanted to sit and watch while someone else gets me all the important stuff, I'd have bought a character already at level 75. At which point there's nothing left to do. Ok, so from time to time I'm under the OMFG UBER level or rank or gear or whatever, but last time I checked, FFXI was a free world (after subscription, heh) and it's my second life to live however I want to.

Of course, that means when my mates use PLs and mules, I have to look the other way; just because I have that belief doesn't mean I have to force it on other people.

I'm lucky, I got the 'level to 18 > Subjob > Level Sub > Level to 20 > Chocobo > Level to 30 > Advanced jobs' thing done... and then realised that it's not all about the exp. It's a community, and the fact that you can level up is, to me, a bonus. At least I didn't get any further on the mad exping.

Be a THF. You will have no choice but to venture out alone and explore.
I can not tell you how much I have learned about this game and my job when I get fed up with LFG.

Thats because we did not get invites, duh!

Wow... I thought it was just me that felt like this.

I've met some AWFUL parties in my time.

Don't ask me how, but at level 60 I pulled hate off the tank (who had just used provoke) by eating a Sole Sushi. I hadn't even engaged the mob yet.

Most of the time, there's one person in the party who just doesn't have a clue of what to do. Thieves who only SATA once per fight, Paladins who don't cure themselves, Ninjas who only use Shihei because "other tools are too expensive" and White Mages who spam their highest level cure spell and ***** when they get hate.

I've met people who've told me "don't use Regen, it's too much MP". Needless to say, I ignored them.

The leader of my LS is a 38 RDM/17 PLD who's pretty much soloed his way to this level. The other day, he actually partied with a good friend of mine. I ended up getting tells asking me to speak to him because he wasn't doing his job properly.

I tried to explain it to him, but he just wouldn't listen.

And that is the problem right there. Jobs such as RDM/BLM/WHM/PLD/NIN tend to be greatly desired. Is it coincidence that, generally, it is these jobs that aren't played particularly well?

The fact is, most DD work at their job so when they DO get a party, they leave a good impression so that (hopefully) the leader will remember them and reinvite them in the future.

(This isn't always true of course, but I'm generalising.)

Hopefully in the expansion there'll be another tank and support class. Just so these jobs aren't so "needed" as they used to be.

I love how playing BST has given me a 'heightened sense of awareness'. I see all agro ranges and navigate very easily through mob infested terrain. I have become very accustomed to death which has tought me how to better deal with sticky situations with a quick reaction. And it doesn't even matter what job I am playing at the time anymore, I just use whatever resources I have to survive.

Couldn't agree more. When you don't have 5 other people to fix your mistakes you learn fast. Or you die. A lot.

I knew my way around just about every zone in the game long before I hit 75. I knew what mobs aggroed and what didn't and what they aggroed to. I xp'ed in places that most players don't even see until they go there for a mission - Bostaunieux Oubliette, Toraimarai Canal, halfway up the mountain in Uleguerand Range, the lower reaches of Ifrit's Cauldron.

Except for job-specific tactics and strategies, playing BST forces you to learn most of the other important aspects of the game. I've never met a noob high level BST that wasn't a bought account.
