EDIT: If you're here for information and don't want to scroll down, the Tactics Pearl is identical to the Signal Pearl except it has four charges and can be reused after only 10 minutes (instead of 20 hours). I'd presume you'd be able to get a new one once a week so that you could have one very long XP session, or several longer ones throughout the week. Pretty cool.

I have one of these from the NPC Promyvion quest, but I'm wary about trying it before I know exactly what it does. I presume it works just like the Signal Pearl except it has a shorter recast and only four charges? Or does he stay for a shorter amount of time?

Tactic Pearl i don't have it yet....But my Guess is that you must call him out with your normal pearl. And the tactic pearl allows you to change his tactic well out fighting instead of having todo it at the call points. (Not even gonna try to spell it ) lol

I just used my tactics pearl tonight. I noticed absolutely no change in my NPC. She stayed out for the same amount of time, said the same things when chatting, had the same strength. I think it's just a way to call your NPC more often. I hope there's a way to recharge it eventually.

Thanks a lot, I figured that was how it worked. I presume you can redo the quest after Conquest so that you can get an extra Tactics pearl once per week. If you were to use signal pearl and then tactics pearl four times in a row, that'd be 100 kills or a little over four and a half hours of NPC time, enough for a standard endgame party. I presume they had to balance out the generally huge endgame TNLs for NPCs by allowing you to summon more often.

How do you get this new pearl?

My impression was that a tactics pearl would let you change the tactics of your NPC if you had already found the tactics items to go with it (there were three added in the update, offense, defense and fortitude).

So where do you start the quest?

so it just summons the npc again?

can you drop it and re-do the quest to get another?

if you do does the bond get weaker?

sorry for all the questions

about the tactics pearl:

I could've sworn I read somewhere that the pearl is used to send commands to your NPC as well. Time to start digging around the .DAT files again.

edit:
says that with the tactics pearl when equiped u can send a special code to your fellow npc. Now im sure this code(s) have something to do with the tactics manuals that have appeared in the update...

Tactics Manual of Fortitude (Defense)
Tactics Manual of Might (Attacker)
Tactics Manual of Endurance (Healer)

I think once you obtain the manual(s) you will be able to send special codes to your NPC to skillchain, cure when you want them to, or do what ever is necessary to hold hate.

Tactics Manual of Endurance (Healer)

have people completely forgot that theres new styles for npc?

soothing healer
fierce attacker

NPC Promyvion quest comes from talking to your NPC about quests.

Apparently at some point he'll say "I gotta go check out that Promyvion place" and you take him there and find a ??? and he'll give you the Tactics pearl.

Clearly Square is onto us, and is going to hide more and more content from us this way, since these don't register as quests in the DAT files.

And, hey...that's kinda cool.

Ok, quick summary. All these answers can be found in the other NPC posts so here they are-
------------------------
Luto Quest #1- Past Reflections
People have reported being able to get this quest at varying levels from 34-47. The exact requirement is unknown. This quest is a prerequesite for getting the next 2 quests.

Promyvion Quest (No name, does not appear in quest log)
To get this quest your NPC must be at least a good deal into Lv.50, but not necessarily capped at 1 tnl. I got this quest before I did the limit break quest and I still needed a good 6 or 7 fights for her to ding 51. After completing this quest and returning to the rendevouz point you will get your Tactics Pearl

NPC Genkai 1- Picture Perfect

1. Yes.
2&3. I have not tried this and have no intention of doing so.

Also, I thought using the Tactics Pearl while having my NPC out (called with Signal Pearl) might get her to do something special. Well that's not the case either. You can't use your Tactics Pearl if your NPC is already out from the Signal Pearl.

I'm gonna call BS on some of the info in this thread. Your NPC does NOT have to be level 50 or above to get a tactics pearl. My NPC dinged 35 (yes, thirty-five) today and I went and talked to her about quests and she started talking about promy. So I swapped to WAR/NIN, grabbed equips from the mog safe, and went on down to Mea. There was a new rondezvous point right at the beginning. Used it, got my NPC following me again (no pearl required). The ??? point was down a ways to the right and somewhat surrounded by empty. I tried bumrushing the point the first time, got aggro'd by two of the little ones, killed them, tried again after waiting for the empty to look away. The point gave me a coupla lines of text, then the option to quit or continue exploring. I went with quit, my NPC then gave the option of being transported back to the beginning, which I accepted. Zoned out of promy via the circle, warped out. Went to the r. point in Ru'lude, checked it, got a cutscene. NPC handed over the Tactics Pearl. No, I don't know what it does. Hope this helps.

As far as I can tell, Tactics Pearl just gives you the ability to zerg xp with your NPC :O I've exhausted all four charges already (100 EP mobs from Signal/Tactics takes awhile solo `-`;;)

I dunno what the text is in English, but in JP FFXI, the item description for Signal and Tactics Pearl are exactly the same - only difference are the charge conditions.

Prereq for Past Reflection is the ability for your NPC to wear headgear - some say that once you are able to view that option at a Rendezvous Point, the quest is unlocked.

The Promyv escort I don't know, but I got it after calling my NPC twice following the Past Reflection quest.

The genkai quest I checked and received once my NPC dinged 50.5 or so (he levelled 50 early on in a call). I'd checked when he was 49, and didn't receive it.

I had the same problem as many getting my NPC to offer this. I just tried something, and it worked.
I went back to the cave in Eldeimme where the ??? is for the skeleton and clicked it. Nothing happened of course, but I thought it was worth a try.
I then returned to Jeuno, called my NPC at the RV point, and she offered me the quest.
I am lvl 49
I also did the originasl NPC quest before the patch that came about a week after its intro, so maybe that has something to do with it.

I also started a quest while in Upper, whereas I had none current before. Not sure this matters either, but it is worth a shot (it was Chocobo's Tale). Perhaps this somehow overwrites the NPC's fascination with the girl.
