What if FFXI didn't exist, what MMORPG would you be playing?Follow

Um... I wouldnt be playing any MMORPG. FFXI was my first real investment into one. I played Everquest way back when for about a month and hated it, no one was willing to help a "newbie" out and one day I ended up on a boat and went to gods know where all I know is sumthing ugly whooped my ***.

Since I wouldnt be playing a MMORPG, I'd most likely be playing GT4 and be at 75% completion by now instead of 23.5% /sigh. That and NFS:U2 would be completed instead of 80% complete. Oh oh also I would most likely be broke since before this game I was going out constantly to clubs spending my money getting drunk ><! This game honestly has saved me to date about 7k!! been playing since Ps2 release!

Is D&D Online out yet? I'd probably play that. Or at least give it a shot.

Not yet. It's in Beta now I believe. They've changed it around so much now, that it's merely just another MMORPG that happens to have Dungeons and Dragons tacked on the box to sell it. At first they said it would be as close to the p&p version as possible, but at some point they decided to do a 180. Just head over to the DDO website and browse the forums; the community doesn't seem too happy about all the changes at all.

To me it sounds like if you think FFXI isn't enough of a grind, or is too solo friendly, you will probably love DDO.

Forget it. FFXI folds and so do I. I've got ps2 and if SE dumps support for it, I'm outta here. I'm not buying a Xbox or special computer for another game that may fold too.

I'll just go back to single use games.

What, no mention of Dark Ages of Camelot?

I played that for about a year, year 1/2 or so before SWG, then this. Really fun game, and always stuff to do there.

I don't know... I play WoW at times but its gotten really boring. So I'm hardly ever on there anymore. (mostly just to chat with friends and help some lower level people with quests). I tried City of Heros and Guild Wars but never really got into them.

So if there was no FF I'd probably just play my plain old play staion 2. (which usually means replaying all the old FF games XD)

I would finish writing my own MMO so I could play that. Except not, playing XI has given me all these insites into what I like and dislike about MMORPG's, especialy the nature of persistant worlds. Without XI I would never have known the joy of discovery, and exploring for the sake of that.

I would be playing Phantasy Star. I tried the open beta, and though it was radically different than FFXI, it was still a whole lot of fun. However, I do not have the time or the money for two MMOs, so I stuck with FFXI.

An alternative may have been City of Heroes so I could play with my brother. He recently switched to Final Fantasy, though, so we could play together.

daoc ^^

before i quit daoc, i had a 50 champion on bedevere that was a master armor smith (1050 ish skill i think) so, it would make sence to go back to that if there was no ffxi

If not for my friends back in my old town, I'd probably have never gotten into FFXI (and I only joined in with them when I finally got a system that could handle it).

If FFXI folds, who knows, I might do the next MMO they do, and if they don't go to another, possibly what another old LS leader I know online plays at the time. If neither, probably actually get to writing in free time and actually pull off some things I've been planning for years now >.>

If FFXI had never come around, I'd probably never have done MMO's at all.

Blizzard has done some good games, WoW looked interesting, but not really my thing (I have seen it in action too, poor friend that was showing it off got mauled by a tiger (wow that sounds familiar somehow...) <evil grin>). I was always more into Starcraft than Warcraft anyways :p

I always swore against any Pay to Play game, poking fun at friends for playing EQ and continuing to pay for a game long after it was initially paid for. I was always into the PS2 and Tiger Woods and Tony Hawk and GTA...

But when i heard about the impending release of MxO, i knew that i was going to be forced to eat my words and become a hypocrite.
I started FFXI because a friend had it and i figured id give it a go since if i was going to be playing a P2P game eventually, i might as well start with one that carries the name of a series i've always loved.

Almost 2 years later i am still playing and never even gave a sideways look when Matrix Online was released.

So if there was no FFXI, i would most likely be fighting Agents instead of Beastmen right now.
(hence my Alla username btw)

I might have tried SWG at some point along the way...

With the servers being down tonight, I'll be playing more of Rose Online. It's in the free Beta stage right now and is pretty fun.

Still not sure if I'd keep playing it if FFXI didn't exist since it's kinda simplistic, but hey, it's free to play right now.

If FFXI had never existed, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be playing any other MMORPGs. I don't like paying for a game every month (or whatever the interval). Since it's Final Fantasy, and a friend showed me the game, I did end up playing.

Or, if FFXI didn't exist, as in, it just was canceled... Since I don't want to pay for two online games at once (and I would be hard to make the time for two!), I'd probably give WoW a try. I've had a couple friends switch over to WoW, but I'm still not bored of FFXI yet.

I also play a lot of Magic: The Gathering Online to take up time between server maintenance or updates or whatever. I haven't upgraded my deck in over a year, but I used to play lot sof tournaments and stuff, so it's pretty well-equipped. ;-) But anyway...wrong forum...but I do play that, as well. It passes time... yes... yes, indeed.

Eve-Online, the best MMO you've never heard of.

I'd be there still if not for it being PvP, just got too stressful.

I wouldn't be playing any... or XI would've been an offline game that I'd finish in 2 weeks.

I would be ******** about why it's taking so long for XII to be out by now if there're no XI, and KH2.

I would have never played any MMORPG, tried EQ, hated it, but I'm a big fan of the FF series, so had to have this one as well, I'd probably still be playing Morrowind III (Elder Scrolls) on my Xbox, that I never use anymore because of this god-foresaken never ending game :P

From a guy to quit FFXI for a year and coming back to it, I have been playing a lot of halo 2(I know not a MMORPG but still really good) and Diablo II. Halo 2 is a job (mlg tourneys) and FFXI is a calling :).

Id be playing the private version of Linage II as the retail version of the game sucks foot balls through garden hoses. 8^/

I wouldn't. I picked up this game because it was Final Fantasy. I've never played another MMO. I'd be watching my nine-year-old beat all the oldies while we're waiting on KH2 and XII to come out. ^^

I'd definitely still be playing MMO's. Been playing various MMO's for years (since I was like 12, I'm 19 now).

More than likely if FFXI didn't exist I'd be spending my money on Dark Age of Camelot. One of the only other MMO's that really ever held my interest like FFXI did. Both have their drawbacks (ie; FFXI has a very strict party system, DAOC does not. FFXI does not have large amounts of lag, DAOC can at times lag like hell), but for the time being I'm much too addicted to FFXI to quit any time soon.
