8th outing

Area: West Altepa Desert
Mob: 13 Desert Spider & 1 Earth Element
SC: 5 Impaction, 6 Detonation, 4 Reverberation
I used Cyclone for all, thus no SC when she uses Blade Rin.
Time: 45min
Max: 23 damage
Max Crit: 40 damage
Ding lvl32 on 10th Desert Spider ^^

Nothing special, expect Henrietta doing more Blade: Rin >.< and since I like to SC with her I got to do Shadowstitch which is low damage... and the Earth Element took too long to fight thus I couldn't get to fight the 15th mob.

Same thing, New armour set ^^ or rather just changed the gloves.

9th outing

Same place same mob. 15 Desert Spider dead XD
SC: 6 Detonation, 6 Impaction, 7 Reverberation.
Time: 40mins
Max Crit: 43 damage

Henrietta sure likes to do Blade: Rin -.-; nothing special, the usual New armour set ^^ this time, only changed the feet to RSE lvl1 ^^; and gloves.

Yup, it's me again.

Day 2

Lemme tell you something: NPC + GKT = bliss. I did so many skillchains with Nanako it isn't even funny. Dunno if she leveled or not, but I'll find out tomorow, won't I?

Skillchains included Fusion, Distortion, Impaction, Liquefaction, and Detonation.

Current level: 31
Weapon: Uchigatana
Gear: Hume F Vest, Lizard gloves, vagabond's leggings, and solea.
Style: Attacker
Location: Eastern Altepa Desert
Mobs: Spiders and Beetles and Dhamels (Oh my!)

Dinged level 35 today. Seems to happen every 3rd outing. I have him as a healer and he doesnt get hate this way.

I wish he would use yag drinks so I wouldnt have to stop to have him rest. I use aspir myself and Spirit taker so I dont need to.

I'm having a great time and can't wait to see what happens at higher levels.

Now, please I hope I dont have to get him his skill cap items!! O.o

lol I didn't bother updating today and I think I'll hold on updates since it's starting to get repetative. I'll update as anything new (besides leveling) occurs. For now, Cupapa is level 38^^

Also at 36, it seems to take a little more fights to get each level. It's been 33 fights for me...I may have counted wrong.

If you read the thing Luto says about the 1st weapon change, she states that your NPC likes to try weapons out before he/she buys them.

I traded mine a spear (I'm a blm using scythe and I can make distortion out of anything he puts out there) and it sure isn't the spear I traded him. I think you just trade them a crappy weapon so they can use it, like it, and update it on their own.

Just like armor, you don't upgrade their armor, but it gets upgraded somehow. If my guy has enough gil to change his armor every time I bring him out, he should have somewhat of enough to be able to upgrade the weapon you told him to get.

This has grown by a couple of pages since I last posted here... Here's what I've observed over the last few calls (FINALLY Dinged 31, btw).

Sorry if this has been posted previously.

1. The NPC AI is smart enough to save its TP if a mob is nearly dead. Or so it seemed to me. Its tough to time roughly when he'll be ready (They need to put a <fttpp> reporting function in the game). So I just let my TP build until he gave me the 'Ready when you are!' signal and opens the SC. At one point my TP was well over 200% but the mob we were fighting was very close to dead.

I figured I'd either missed his signal and WS, or he was saving it for a fresh mob. Sure enough, he opened with Tachi:Enpi on the next mob we fought.

2. I know this has been said 100x, but I'm now convinced... Altep is pretty much the ideal spot for levelling these guys early on (Just avoid the Antican Pallies ><). As a 57 WHM, I was able to manage the fights against Spideys, Anticans and Beetles without problem. Unfortunately, the fights tended to drag on due to cruddy damage, and he left at the 45 min mark, not after 15 kills (I'm guessing we were on or around #14-15 when he split).

3. On NPC Lag: I dont have a screen of this because it happened very quickly, but after one fight last night I checked him to see if he needed to rest. He'd taken a few hits in the fight and I'd only given him 1 Cure II, so I figured he'd have about 20% of his HP missing.

To my surprize, he was 100% full. About 3 seconds later I got the Ding message and animation.

It was kindof like when youre in a pt and someone levels, you see their health and MP bars go to full... then a split second later the XP/Ding/Drop message comes up and you get the animation. But the delay seems more exagerated in this case.

Ive noticed other timing issues where the XP is concerned... mine, when reaching kill 15, has regularly given me the warning that he's going to leave just before the hit that kills the mob. It goes "Well, that should about do it!" -> Mob dies -> "I'm going. Later!" -> De-spawn.

Its the same thing I observed when fighting the NM Skelly... he told me he was leaving just as the killing blow was being dealt. Its a little thing, but a little bothersome.

Sorry for the long post.

Day 9

My NPC leveled to 37 so after that I went back to the Rpoint to check her armor, and i found new command, something about appearance change(headgear), whether to change or leave it as it is, i guess the headgear is random?

You sure that it doesn't happen after 9 or 10 callings?
Level seems irrelavent in every other new feature (IE: change jobs after 3 calls, new weapons after 5...)

Finished calls # 19 and 20 today.

Got the headband option after 19th calling. She only comes out in a blue headband though no matter how many times I tell her to change. If you tell her to change with a headband on, she will come back without a headband. Tell her to change that and she'll come out with the same blue headband. Hopefully more will be added soon. Also, hit level 39 during 20th calling. Nothing new from Luto. Other things I've noticed:

1. In fights against monsters with pets, the pets don't seem to count towards xp or kill limit. I killed 16 monsters in one session when one of them was a gob with it's spider pet even though the spider gave me xp.

2. I've pulled links off higher levels who had either slept or did whatever to the monster that gave me 0 xp even though they were EP. Those don't seem to count as a kill also. I killed 17 monsters in one trip which included one for no xp and a monster with a pet.

3. I actually died on the 14th monster on one of my session. Cupapa still XP'd after the 33rd fight (which seems to be the trend for me since level 36). So I assume there's no penalty to NPC if you die...havn't confirmed if there's a penalty if npc dies though.

4. Cupapa now uses Protect II, Shell II, and Dia II. She has yet to learn a new spell nor so I'm thinking she might not learn completely new spells at all >.< I've yet to test the higher level status removing spells (Viruna and Stona), but I'm not expecting Haste at level 40 either, though I can definately dream^^. Also,

5. I thought i'd get a list of spells she uses started up and see if everyone's got the same spells for their Healer type NPC.

Spells: Cure III, Protect II, Shell II, Dia II, Silence, Paralyze, Slow, Stoneskin, Blink, Blinda, Poisona, Silena

Weapon Skills: Hard Slash, Power Slash, Frostbite, Freezebite.

That's all for now.^^

Wow this thread is getting long. I got my npc to 35 today and decided to try giving it a new weapon. I decided to trade luto the bronze axe. What is interesting is that after talking to luto again, my npc was already asking for an upgrade. So I tried various axes (light, bone, brass). The Brass Axe ended up being the one that was accepted.

From this we can conclude that the npc does not necessarily need to "skill up" using the weapon. It seems that the level of weapon accepted is based solely on the npc's current level. I guess this means that I can switch to another weapon type and immediately upgrade it to match the current npc level.

It also would be nice if the OP started listing the possible upgrade weapons. This way future people wouldn't need to waste AH space reselling the weapons that didn't work.

I have a question. If I wanted to get my NPC all the kills it can handle at once, could I make a huge train in a low level area, summon her, then cast a big AOE spell? Thanks in advance. ^^

Low level areas and huge kills = good farming, but not good xp.

The NPC would get NO exp because you never engage the mobs. Nuking somehow doesnt count, you have to be attacking for the NPC to help.

Take your npc to a higer than her/him area.

I go to east althepa desert. Very nice to level so far.

Wouldnt do you or your NPC much good, I'm fairly certain.

Any AOE of consequence would require a level too high for the NPC to gain any kind of experience in a low level area.

Hey I'm not sure if anyone's mentioned this but I was lvling my npc with a whm friend and both NPC's left at 20:00 saying that it was late. Also I didnt see anyone bring up whether you can have 5 party members with 5 npc's out at once. Everyone I've seen has treated them like the took up a party spot.

To Arsonosss, this is quoted from the PlayOnline website:

Quote:
-All NPCs in a party will leave if the party attempts to increase its total number of players and NPCs to seven.

(Source: PlayOnline

So, three PCs with their NPCs would work, but all the NPCs would leave if you invite another PC. A party of 4 PCs, two of them with NPCs would also work, but if either of the other two called their NPCs, all three would disappear.

Hope that helps ^-^
