Man, I feel like I've been playing this for 20 years after reading the OP.
I remember every single change in that post since the NA Beta.
But the thing I that struck me the hardest, was the reply later on about full alliances of 55 NA's doing G2.
That's something I think alot of people missed out on. There's really no way to convey the fun we had exploring FFXI and learning as we went. No quests online, no level 75's to hold our hand (and JP's wanted nothing to do with us, lol)nothing was easy, and no paths were laid out in detail before us.
Vanadiel was a strange, unexplored world. Cooperation was the way of things. Name calling, in-fighting, LS jumping, and the mindset of needing to have "elite" gear, didn't exsist.
We strived for things like chocobo licenses, kazaam keys, rank ups, and the "I'm all grown up now" airship pass! AF and Genkai's were fun events of mass confusion and "where the **** are we?" hysteria!
We fought our way through every quest, mission, and sightseeing trip that crossed our paths, and we had FUN doing it.
I wish every new player could experience this game as we did!
