Hakutaku - The OPtical Hat GuideFollow

this guide isn't bad, just not completely accurate. don't drag down the paladin job in saying we cannot tank something simply because you're ignorant of the strategy necessary in implementing paladin tanks. know ALL your facts before making a "guide" like this, else you are doing a disservice to the community and potentially slandering a job that doesn't deserve it.

http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/jobs.html?fjob=5&mid=1113124057260153221&num=101

enjoy ^^/

p.s. pwnt, saying ninja can do the job much better is also ignorant. ninja tanks require just as much support as paladin, just of a different sort. they also have less margin for error (as mentioned, haku will kill a ninja in a few hits once shadows drop). if someone misses a stun on firaga 3, there is a high probability he will die. paladins can eat quite a bit more damage than that.

both ninja and paladin tank this just fine. i've even seen 2 warrior/ninjas tank it.

This doesn't need a sticky, but if you clean it up, that is, fill in the missing information you didn't originally have, and maybe the spelling a smidge >_> then you could submit it with the "Submit Information" button on the side there.

Lighten up, bud. It was only suggested that NIN was a better tank for Hakutaku than PLD, it didn't say it was impossible.

I dunno, when the guide said...
Quote:
Pld cannot tank this thing

I think he strongly implied that PLD could not tank it.

I tanked it with one other PLD -- worked fine for us. We tanked it 90-degrees apart, so that whoever did not have hate could turn around and smack it while the other stayed facing away. We had no THF's, so the hate just bounced back and forth between us and very occasionally to the melees who were behind the mob. We had a couple of WHM's, and they had no trouble keeping us alive. The advantage of a couple of PLD's is two more Flash spells every 37 seconds; combined the WHM Flashes the thing had meaningfully reduced accuracy a good chunk of the time. I didn't use an Earth Staff either -- the extra +hate from my shield and the chance to smack it with a sword when it wasn't facing me outweighed the damage reduction. It doesn't really hit that hard; it just adds up over a long fight if you don't have enough healers.

I suggest you get a minimum of 2 Ninja tanks, 2-3 stunners, 2-3 mages and a few meele with /thf to keep hate on the ninja tanks.

Because real thieves suck, and don't need the hat anyway, best to just leave them out.

I thought of it first:

Oh, and by the way, I fully believe PLD can tank Hakutaku, you just need enough healers and the PLD can't be a slacker, including equipment. Goes the same for NIN. A NIN slacker doesn't stand a chance with tanking Hakutaku.

But anyways, I wouldn't go with what the guide suggested...I would go with more. ^^ I would go with:

4-5 good stunners WITH a Stun order
4-5 healers with Paralyna (half RDM, half WHM; RDM = Convert)
3 Ninjas
All the SATA you can get for the Ninjas
Paladins for aggro/link or possibly Hakutaku backup
Any and all BSTs/SMNs to handle aggro/link, if possible

I did the find the guide extremely helpful. I hope to get my Optical Hat soon. LS is doing a run on 7/11. ^^

ok, ok....I can't help but share this story since this topic came up. We have been doing alot of eye runs lately in my BST LS. We have done it in about 40 minutes with 7 BST, levels ranging from 65-75. But the first time we did it...we trio'd it. Yes, 3 BST took it down. The fight was 3 hours. Here is a link, fair warning, it is a long story but was one hell of a battle.

This was posted in February. Anyone else remember the first Promyvion guides? Of course all jobs can work on Hakutaku, we've killed it enough and perfected a strategy.

first off, pld does not require massive amounts of mp to tank this, and he does not have to be uber equiped, pld and nin can tank this equally (sort of)

both are completely capable of tanking with no problems, when we did our runs, we were killing on average of 10 mins for fight, and the respawn on the ??? has been changed, its not 15 mins anymore, i wanna say 5 mins, but no positive, anyways, on our runs we had me 72pld at the time and 75 nin, both standing on opposite ends with backs to haku, we were bouncing it back and forth, or trying to anyways, the nin couldnt get hate off me lol

We just did this with 17 ppl
after 3 runs it was 15 ppl
4th run was 14 ppl
5th run was 13 ppl.

lol we did it sucessfull and easily every run, but the last 2 runs took well over 30 mins per fight due to one rng leaving which was alot of damage missing as only 2 rngs were there, me being the second.

Actually, either tank is a gamble. Paladin tank, yes ancients are a problem but that's why you set up a stun order before hand. Ninja tank, works fine but things could go VERY bad if he paralyzes the ninja or aga's him at a bad time.

Nice guide, few other pointers that might help people.

Below is a link to a map where I think the best place to actaully fight Haku is, there is a passage oposite to where you spawn Haku with a cliff/drop at the end (Dont fall down) If you clear all the Mobs spawn Haku and fight him in that tunnel the repops will never touch you(At least they havent with us in over 30 runs)

http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/2586/haku0op.gif

I go to the Fights as Monk with mage, Im charged as a paralyna ***** for the main ninja tank.
I have a macro set up:
/target "player name"
/ma "paralyna" <t>

The mages have other things to do and it helps I can be dedicated to just that task, and he does like to spam paralyze.

So as a monk I basically, Boost & Chiblast + keep the main tank unparalyzed.

In the past we have done this with just 1 ninja, it was very tough and I wouldnt reccomend it as it can go bad very fast.

Sam/thf's will have the biggest damage output of any melee.
Melee 70 or below will have trouble hitting the guy even with sushi and will do little damage.

The fight can be done with less than an allaince, we have done it with 9 people in the past, it took along time and we had only the needed jobs, it was risky but with tanks, healers, stunners and good DD it went ok

Goodluck
