Please translate:
"Sod off"
(Hey that is the "clean" version!)
that's a tough one, since
a) japanese doesn't really have cuss words
b) the meaning changes in the context.
So i'll just take it to mean "go away"
o‚Äs‚¯
dete ike
note: this is not very polite.
(To Amaterasu:) I think it's quite decent of you to try and help out people with Nihongo questions. Pertaining to the person wanting to say "sod off", I have a hard time believing any Nihonjin (Japanese person) would say something along those lines. ... oh well.
I also think it's commendable for people wanting to communicate in other languages. In the past though, when I've helped out people with Japanese I tend to find people complaining that they don't understand what is responded back to them. It seems that keeping things as simple as possible has worked best for them ... For example, in order to thank their party they'd just say "otsukaresama, otsukaresama desh|ta", and for [see you again] they'd use the auto-translator. Eventually, I guess it is understood that Japanese communication may be limited any which way. I believe using the auto-translator is definitely a good thing, although I know some terms may be misinterpreted when translated into Japanese (ie. Reward, Help me out, etc).
On a somewhat tangent note, here's a link for anyone interested in some in-game terms (although you'd need to be able to read hiragana/katakana):
http://www.sankou.info/ff/ (you'd need to DL the file titled: ‚e‚e‰pŒêŽ«‘idis20040916).. there's 50+ pages)
There's also a site with some phrases from the auto-translator in English, Japanese, and Italian:
http://www2.tomato.ne.jp/~sasame/Italy/Vana_Conversazione.html And yet again, if you are interested in some basic FFXI terms and phrases (plus some grammar) ... Well the link is below. =)
