Is there any equivalent thread in allakhazam?
I am very interested in NA ver. users' own little good stories.

Ehh... more than likely not, if so you would have to search for it. The post that come out of allakhazam go along the line of :

- OMG, JPNZ VOK SO MUCH FASTR CUZ TEH SERVRS!!11!

- OMG, KAZHAM (VALKRUM) SUCK SO BAD

- OMG, I KANT GET PARTY!!!1

Ok, well it's not *that* bad... but I doubt you will find any stories like that her on allakhazam. They often get buried undder the flames. :(

i actually remember a thread that a new player started, they were telling the story of their experiance, they were still in the dunes when i lost track of the thread but it was nice to hear the thoughts and emotions of someone new to this world and how they discovered things in it.

i'm sorry i don't remember the posters name or the title of the thread, i'll try and look for it some time in the next couple days and i'll PM you the link if i can find it.

Excellent story. My ls is almost to this point. They have been arguing, and all of our activities are on hold. Currently, I don't know what is going to happen.

For the story, AWESOME. Reminds me so much of how I felt when I started this game. I remember getting on the Selbina boat, and thinking I was on top of the world lol. Great great job by the Original Author, and by the person who translated it ^^

I thought the part about the author feeling so ashamed when he/she seen the WHM setting there by herself at the crag... Man, that one hit home hard.

This story is so old...
It's not worth crying over...
I cried the first time I've seen it.

But you know what?

That story/video/whatever has been on the GameFAQS boards (and maybe even other forums) longer than this one.

I <3 the Alla boards but you guys are slow...you phail.

I don't think I've lost myself in the grind.

FFXI is the biggest game I've ever played. For a video game some of the scenery etc is absolutely shocking, but I've went through a few servers and I remember my first party very well. I was level 6 and a few other level 6's and me where trying to find the dunes. We ran from South and North Gustaberg into Konschat Highlands and it took at least an hour. Looking back it was a big (big) world and the Gustaberg region itself seemed HUGE.

I don't play on that server anymore and by the time I got to ramuh I had a power level to lvl10 and I knew what to do through the dunes. Now and again I still take time to step back and look at the graphics of the zones, and since I haven't got past lvl47, I hope there is a long way to go. As far as linkshells go, I've went through a lot and I've only kept a few that I call "home".

Just leave it alone. I could understand if this was a real life story without all the ffxi related parts but it isn't. It's just a game, and on top of that the movie is over a year old. It's like an extremely bad joke.

Also notice its the same guy bumping. Damn trolls are getting smarter.

I think this movie is a great example to remind us that this is just a game to have fun, adventure and explore. And yes it's a year old, but I'd sure as hell would like all the new XBox players to see this before they get overly wraped up in trying to sprint through the game. I've watched this a lot since I've been playing, as corny as it sounds, it kind of awakens a certain fire to enjoy different aspects of the game.

I'll leave you with a random quote that, oddly enough came out of a fortune cookie. It is pinned by my desk right above my PC.

Thanks for giving me your point of view without yelling or flaming me. While I do agree with you, its sometimes overrated how people think 1-10 are the best times of the game. To me, endgame is the funnest, there is so much more to see and experience. There's things that are unique and only appear in one place. Rather lower lvl's experience the exact same things.

I guess i just dont like it because it has a higher lvl wishing he was a lower lvl again who had experienced everything. While i love being my higher lvl. That's just my thoughts.

I do agree with you on this 100%. I believe the real key is still having that sense of wonder and adventure when you began and taking that into the endgame -- wether it be the thrill of a tough BC fight, the excitment of each CoP/ZM/Nation mission, or discovering the beautiful sights of high level areas. I believe that this is where the true beauty of FF XI lies.

Amen. Well written story and it really drives home why we play this game. This post made me stop and smell the flowers. And since then i have quit worring about 75 and started back to seeing what our world has to see. I think of this whenever i get stressed about something. I am glad it's back on the front page.

Omg this brought me to tears seriously....

I just read this for the first time & I must say it's the best thread I've ever read in the 2 years I've played this game. Whoever wrote this has touched me deeply. This story pertains to me so greatly it makes me cry. This brings back the memories I've had of this game when I first started on my very first character in my very first world. Tyvm for posting this.

I have been playing this game for two years now. My highest character is my whm, which is 64. I have dropped out of several linkshells, simply because I got tired of the "HNM fight tonight, all LS members must be there pimped out in their 75 char or else!!" mentality.

I went back and opened every subjob, then played them all some, taking the ones I like better up a little further than others. Bard is the second highest at 42. I am even enjoying Beastmaster. Ironiclly, the LordOfTheBeast LS has be the best I have been in, the most helpful.

I enjoy helping people and having fun while playing. This is a GAME. Shouldn't games be fun? Not work? Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy this game. My wife and I play it 5 nights a week. We craft, level, quest, mission, and help others where we can.

BTW, I am 38 and my wife is 44. Perhaps that is why we have a little different outlook.

And yes, the story made me cry....... lol

Reading this story really made me remember how I was when I first started the game. I've been playing for...probably over 3 years now, or almost 3 years, and my highest job is only level 60 and 2nd highest is 38. (While my sister has 2 lv70+ jobs, and started playing the same day I did.)

I remember when I first started, I really had no idea what I was doing. I tried talking to NPC's in /say, I asked people what BLM and WHM stood for, I didn't understand skillchains...
Well a level 18WHM decided to help me. He took me to Konschtat Highlands where I met up with a monk and a taru warrior. The whm p-lvled us for awhile and I was excited to see the highlands.
After awhile the whm and war had to go, and me and the monk met up with a redmage, also new to the game. We were killing sheep and things of the sort when all of a sudden the monk says, "What's that over there?" and /points.
Me and the rdm look, and see a large shadowy figure in the distance. we quickly ran to it and found a Telepoint Crystal. We all clicked it and thought we had set our homepoints, and when we got murdered by quadavs, we all returned to NorthGust or Bastok. :) Ah, good times.

There really is nothing better than hearing in your linkshell, or in a /tell from a friend, "Wanna go exploring <thisarea>?" There is one trip I made with a friend that I will never forget. I was with a redmage friend, a different rdm than i mentioned before; we were in the same lvl range...somewhere between 20-23ish. the rdm suggests we explore the town beyond korroloka tunnel...Rabao.
I thought she meant the town was directly on the other side of the tunnel, and I think she thought that too because we were quite surprised to find a desert on the other side. The rdm then mentions she had heard something about a {Teleport-Altep} and thought the crystal might be here somewhere. We didn't want to risk getting aggro, since we didn't know what to expect, so sadly we had no choice but to have a highlv escort us to Rabao. :/ Well when we got there, we grabbed chocobos, a map of the area and went exploring.
the rdm found the telepoint and i ran my choco to her position. we both said {All right!} and dismounted, grabbed crystal and frantically searched for a chocobo renter standing nearby...
Sadly, we found none. And needless to say, in the lower 20 levels, we didnt get far on foot in Altepa. A nice whm EXPing nearby raised us and helped us get back to korroloka, where we returned to our hometown bastok :)

One more story of exploration to tell. I'll never forget when my in-game fiance asked me to go explore the attowah chasm. I think i was about level 50 at the time, and he was 55-59ish. So we go, and we check the antlions...They conned T or about that so we decide to kill. they were hard but we were ok. One part of this adventure that scared me was when he went afk and put on /follow...I switched equipment without thinking and sent him running off into the chasm! I panicked and started throwing <call>s here and there, and luckily he hit and stuck to a wall before a mob found him.
Another part that really scared me was when I was just running through a path with tall walls on each side, I see him call out "GET BACK, NOW!" I look around me and see nothing, and type in a {Huh?). He kept telling me to come back...and then I saw it. It blend in PERFECTLY with the wall that I couldn't even see it. I /check, and I read: "The Tracker Antlion seems incredibly tough."
I knew I had to get the hell out of there! So I run and run and surprisingly it did not attack me!
Well I recently read up on alla that they are non-aggressive. Hehe. ^^b
But you shoulda seen the look on my fave when I realized that it was so camalflouge(sp?x.X) that I couldn't even see it against the wall. Look out for the lightly-colord antlions, everyone! ^_^

In conclusion, hehe, lvling isn't all important to me. (especially now that I have all my pld AF, i'm taking a break for awhile) and exploring vanadiel is really what all the fun is. So every 3-5 lvls, take a break and explore somewhere you've never been, just for the fun of it!
^_^b

That's so sad, kupo...

I've actually had something similar thing happen to me, kupo! It didn't involve other people, but it seems that it's really easy to get off track of fun and descend into the lunacy that is leveling as fast as possible. As soon as I realized I was starting to do this, I started up farming more usually.

Taking my time, listening to the music, enjoying the graphics... Wanton massacre of insects and bunnies, kupo!

Yesterday, I decided to level up Marksmanship for my WAR. I wanted to exceed my farming capabilities because I realized I would soon be restricted because all the WAR's in the WAR forum say that I must get a Hauby @59. I thought to myself, where can I find low level skill up mobs and maybe do some harvesting too? I decided to go to Ghelsba so I could log and maybe run inside Yughott Grotto and mine. There were several loggers and one lone WHM soloing the easy mobs.

I decided to go inside Yughott Grotto to mine and skillup and I was surprised by what I saw. Orcs, Lizards and many many bright green pools with torches all lit up. I ended up exploring it inside out and didn't skill up or mine. I even decided to run around Ghelsba Outpost at the very top and much to my surprise, I saw great towering catapults lined up on a cliff. I had never seen them before. The new scenery was very refreshing and I thought of this thread. Bump.

I see a lot of people saying "It is different for NA players because we weren't the first to play." But really, it's NO different. None of us had any clue what we were doing at first, no more than the first JP players to run through Pashow Marshlands and Rolanberry Fields at lv 18 to find Jeuno.

Me and three r/l friends all bought FFXI the first week it came out in the U.S. (November 2003)I remember it taking a week to solo to level 7 in W. Ronfaure, and I still remember our first run to Ghelsba as a pt of 4, RDM, WHM, MNK, WAR, to do the early San d'Oria missions.--I remember our first exp party at the lake in La Theine at lv 10. I remember seeing a lv 16 soloing a snipper and being in awe. She just laughed at me and said "in a few levels you will be doing the same thing".

And then my first time to the Dunes. I remember being scared out of my mind, not knowing how I was going to get back to Sandy!-hiding behind trees so goblins wouldn't see me as I tried to find my way back to La Theine.

Our first experiences in FFXI were no different from JP players. EVERYTHING was new at one point for everyone, even if NA players weren't the first ones to Jeuno. We all still had the experience of journeying there the first time. I've kept those memories, and they are what have brought me back to this game after quitting TWICE, because I haven't had that feeling duplicated with any other game I've ever played.

Great thread Kahr. One of the most meaningful topics I've seen here in a while ^^

the WHM taru reminded alot of me, with the esception that i was all alone without friends until lvl 12 where i would party... if i could play FF again i would be someone new, a total friendlier person... To think that i never had enough money to keep on playing th egame... i never rode on a chocobo... i never went to jenou (sp?)... I never even got a sub-job. Exploring was my fav. and i switched from Ls to LS to find the perfect one... an RP one, or an exploring one. I admire every corner of Vana'diel when i was a newb too. Still did, every time i join a party i would make joke on this world, and rp a bit... but no one saw that a efficient. Unfortuneately i still have no money to play the game... I wish i did
