VT are not tough at all But they give around 70-110 exp depending on their level and how many people are in the area.
As a Red Mage I'm at that level where its seems likw I can't hit anything.

Hmm, so there really is little downtime. Are they lending you gil for the time being, or do you have your own way? The only reason I ask is because most of your current equip is amazinf for your level.

I spent a long hard month leveling my character Armagadopolis to almost 18, and worked on skilling up several weapons alone the way. That's a lot of farming.
I also play the auction house a lot. I used to sell arrows for twice what I bought them for in shops, but now I've found several items that sell on a very regular basis in Jeuno for much less than I can get for them in other cities.
EDIT: I did get a loan for my Genin Earring, but I've already paid it back.
I wrote almost 17, but meant almost 18.

Ah, playing the AH. I'm attempting to save up a sum of gil, then try that. It seems like one of the easier and best ways to make gil.

I'm going to try gardening soon.
I have a stack of tree saplings and two maple tables, but I need to buy porcelain flowerpots once I have some cash.
The saplings are about 95K a stack in Jeuno on my server, (I thin, since I've had them for a while and can't remember), and my I can make at least 200K if even one of them grows elemental ore.
EDIT: I'm a little low on funds at the moment, but it's okay, since I've got all the equipment I'll need up to level 34 for RDM, and I still have most of my low-level stuff for when I start NIN, which should hopefully be this weekend... we'll see.

The only reason I woudln't want to do gardening is the long wait till profit is made. If I were to go for ice ores, I'd want to be sure to only plant one pot a day on alternating mules/main chars, but I'd forget about them =/

My friend , (the gardner), has a mule for each city, and each of them is growing different ores on different schedules. He's also got his blacksmith somewhere between 50 and 60 now, and is looking into doing goldsmithing next to make his ore into beads.

True, its just the large initial investment that would make it hard.

I just went into the ZM8 BC fight solo, wearing a yukata. Of course I immediately ran away but I still did it. I just had to see Lion one last time before bed.
Edit... ok... didn't mean to post here. It's the only one I saw. How is this still being bumped.. /sigh
Edit: Nevermind again. I could have sworn I saw two server forum threads on the main page. Wow... I think its time for sleep.
