It has been said before and it will be said again. Rating posts must be restricted only to people who have posted in the thread being rated.

Actually, it's the other way around, you shouldn't be able to both moderate and argue in a thread. This is how slashdot does it.

I come on these boards tonight and the first few posts are about Karma and people pissed abut it and people saying this person deserves this and does not deserve that and blah blah blah. Why is it so important to you people? I mean does it really matter THAT much? ITS A FRIGGIN MESSAGE BOARD! So your name is yellow instead of dark yellow good god! I know all you Karma fools will just rate me down out of existance and you know what? I DONT GIVE A CRAP I CAN MAKE ANOTHER NAME WOOT! On this note I have 2 ideas to bring to your attention.

1. Lets actually talk about final fantasy again. This is not high school people its the message board and kissing Karma **** is not going to make you star quarterback of the football team or varsity cheerleader.

2. We need to just destroy this Karma system so we can concentrate on the game instead of drama.

I know you don't like what I have to say but I would like this FF message board to get back to FF and not stupid pointless numbers thank you for your time and attention :)

Welcome to ffxi.allakhazam.com forums! Where if you don't post a completely 100% original topic and go along with the flow of other's opinions, you get a rate down! If you get rated down enough, poof! You're gone. You didn't flame anybody, you didn't even complete your free trial! You're just gone!

Excuse me for posting about your faults as caring about an imaginary grading system and excuse me for wanting to talk about a game on a game message board instead of internet drama. I guess ffxi.alakazam.com should be changed to HighSchoolDramaKarma.alakazam.com

WTF is so Great about Karma. Quoted from the thread title.

It serves the purpose of giving people something to ***** about when others get bored and abuse the karma system.

That is it's purpose...yep...that's all.

I think what a lot of you dont understand, or see is how a persons Karma rating can be a punishment to the person posting.

What I mean is, and have done this myself,

When someone spends an hour or more of their time trying to write a useful guide,

or goes out of their way to answer questions for people,

or do anything posative for this bord and NOT get rated up.

Or in Lady's case, look at her server forums thread, have any of you noticed how many times it has been rated down and back up?

He went out of his way to provide you people what I have seen begged for over and over, and someone(Multiple someones) have rated him down for it!

People are so quick to rate down for next to nothing. I dare not post in any thread talking about karma for the fact, someone will rate everyone down. No explination why, just nuke the thread. Happens all the time.

I guess my point is, the truly helpful people get over loked, or shat on, but step out of line for a second, and everyone will see in time to rate you into oblivion.

I lurked on these forums for a while before I finally registered and it took me a while to figure what the heck Karma even was and why people were getting angry about it. I tend not to pay attention to Karma. It's just a number beneath a name. Instead, I try to look for more game related posts and who wrote them. Those are the people I tend to pay attention to when they post. Those who write very useful guides, go out of their way to help people who ask questions, and provide handy services to the forum users (i.e. Server forums, etc). Personnally, I think Karma is as bad as post-whoring to get your count up. They're trivial things that are useless to get angry over.

I know the instant I worry about what a bunch of people, that I don't know, think about me on a forum about a game that it's time to reevaluate my priorities.
