so it's only paying members that are scholar and/or sage status
Aw, come on ;-) I'm not a paying member (still waiting on those server-related forums - the official ones), but I feel that I contribute useful info to the site. Should I not be recognized for that, whereas the "paying members" that create the "self love" threads where they post a zillion times and rate each other up do?
Karma works two ways. For every negative camper y'all have, you've got just as many friendly campers who boost you back up when you feel you get hit unfairly. Karma here seems to be about how many friends you have, not how valuable the info is. I use it as intended - good, useful, correct info gets a rate up. A rate up if I found it particularly entertaining. Insulting, flaming, or blatently wrong info (as opposed to a differing opinion) gets a rate-down.
A lot of you guys with your 5k posts know a heck of a lot about the game, but it's awfully difficult to find the valuable info among your maze of posts whining about karma. This site would be twice as good if the admins removed every post (lol, including this one) that mentions karma. It would also save a heck of a lot of space in the old DB.
I would like to concur with the majority, and try to say, in the nicest possible way that your karma should not be so important to you that you would start a thread like this. If it is, then you should really re-evaluate your priorities.
Lastly, this sort of thread belongs in the off-topic forum. Please put it there the next time you decide to post something in the main thread with zero useful content.
FYI, I have never rated you down before, but welcome to my first rate-down. I am rating you down for being off topic, having an insulting subject line, and basically trying to start a flame war. There: I've posted and I've given my reason. Hope we can still be friends :-)
