This is a FFXI board, not a "karma woes" board.

It sucks when you have a camper, but if it gets to be a problem, ignore them, report the threads to an Admin, and move on. You're not giving the camper satisfaction, and after a few days of camping, the admin'll record that persons IP, and stop them from being able to record anyone at all. If the decreases were unjust, they may even reinstate your karma too.

Relax, an internet message board rating system is not something you should EVER be hurt/saddened/angered by, it's ridiculous.

100% agree.

I see the title still hasn't been edited. It is offensive and immature.

Ahhh, now isnt that a lot better everyone?

Heh, here is the problem......

Everyone is complaining about "I dont like this thread" and "This thread's title is offensive and shouldn't be seen"

Here is the solution......

Don't post any more!

Wow! That damn simple. If you keep adding your 2 cents onto this thread then guess what? This thread will be at or near the top for a long, long, long time. If you don't post anything it will fade into nothingness and will never been seen again.

It's that simple folks. Silence IS golden!

(Yes I do know that this thread will be on the top one more time when I hit POST MESSAGE but hopefully it's the last)

Nope, I didn't read this entire thread, but I have a question.

Quote:
They'd just need to figure out some way that the site could still be moderated with the staff that they have. That's the real reason it's there.

How is it moderated? I am under the impression if your post gets rated down enough it will go away, but that seems like the only form of moderation.

My karma is like 3.40 or something like that. Do you get special privaledges at 4 or 5, or is it just a way for people to feel special and say "my karma is high, nyah!"

seriously, it seems pointless to me but just an ego boost and for people to ***** when they are rated down

(rate downs for no reason are stupid though, i know it happens :) I just prefer not to read threads thats dont appeal to me, no need to waste time rating down)

I have to keep reminding myself that most of your are 13-17 year old kids, and that I'm a 21 year old woman that doesn't give a **** about this kind of stuff.

LOL! You do care because why would you post something if you didn't? Like I said before...... If you dont want this thread to continue STOP POSTING. Personally I don't care if it does or not because it gives me a chance to blast you fools for complaining that it's still up here and you post anyways.

Good God! No one cares how old you are.

Wow, you're not a hypocritical ***@#%^ at all, are you?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Heh, no im not because if you just saw that I put that I dont mind if this post stays up personally. I'm just stating that people who complain about this thread being here shouldn't post. Oh well maybe I am being an ***@#%^ but sometimes you just have to resort to that. Being hypocritical however....That answer is no. Just take the time to read what I wrote before you attempt to flame me. I even got it right here for you to read. Please do this time.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you dont want this thread to continue STOP POSTING. Personally I don't care if it does or not
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

See I dont care if this thread ends, but I will say I care about people being asshats and saying it shouldn't continue but add on to it anyways. If this thread continues on until the end of time that's great. Just no more suggesting that it "should be removed" type of posts please. That is all I'm sorry if I confused some people. I guess I really didnt make myself clear enough on what I do or do not care about. In the future I will. I apologize for this confusion.

With the line about Washington, it was just saying that not all popular things are right, and not all correct things are popular. It wasn't meant to say you, me, lady, anyone was like that. Don't read into it; it was a statement to be taken at face value.

I didn't say I disliked you, or that you disliked lady, or any other such thing. I took what you said, and put it side by side with one thing that Illia said to show:

"this is one thing you said about the karma system."

"this is one theing the admin said about the karma system."

I then was working to show that your opinion of what it should be differes from that of the programmer. It was not an attack on you, as I actually agree with you on what you think the system is there for. It was to point out that, in that statement, the admin does not, and that the karma system thusly has no clear definition, nor real enforcement.

Unfortuantely, Laurenthasala, I was unable to take your words at face value because the manner in which you wrote them was ambiguous. Given that you: started off with a quote from my post, ended them with a '/fume', wrote in a way that left question as to exactly who you were talking too, and finally, have a somewhat confrontational manner (no offence intended, just an observation), perhaps you can understand why I was forced to 'read into' them.

Your reconstruction of events does, of course, make sense, but maybe you can see why it might not appear that way to someone else who read your post. (I understand that you are a published poet, and as a wordsmith, you might be comfortable with ambiguity in your writing style - but it does make it slightly more difficult for those of us with only an average IQ <grin>).

Other things aside, though, you write that I and the programmer are at odds as to what the karma system is for, but I disagree: the quote I lifted from the previous thread seems to lay out fairly clearly what Illia thought and I believe that I am in total agreement with what was written there. Incidentally it appears to be similar to what is written in the Forum FAQ, though it is spelled out somewhat less clearly there. As for you being unclear on what the karma system's definition is, I apologize if I had it wrong, but your last post in that thread seemed to indicate that you had cleared it up. Allow me:

Please, correct me where I am wrong.

so it's only paying members that are scholar and/or sage status

Aw, come on ;-) I'm not a paying member (still waiting on those server-related forums - the official ones), but I feel that I contribute useful info to the site. Should I not be recognized for that, whereas the "paying members" that create the "self love" threads where they post a zillion times and rate each other up do?

Karma works two ways. For every negative camper y'all have, you've got just as many friendly campers who boost you back up when you feel you get hit unfairly. Karma here seems to be about how many friends you have, not how valuable the info is. I use it as intended - good, useful, correct info gets a rate up. A rate up if I found it particularly entertaining. Insulting, flaming, or blatently wrong info (as opposed to a differing opinion) gets a rate-down.

A lot of you guys with your 5k posts know a heck of a lot about the game, but it's awfully difficult to find the valuable info among your maze of posts whining about karma. This site would be twice as good if the admins removed every post (lol, including this one) that mentions karma. It would also save a heck of a lot of space in the old DB.

I would like to concur with the majority, and try to say, in the nicest possible way that your karma should not be so important to you that you would start a thread like this. If it is, then you should really re-evaluate your priorities.

Lastly, this sort of thread belongs in the off-topic forum. Please put it there the next time you decide to post something in the main thread with zero useful content.

FYI, I have never rated you down before, but welcome to my first rate-down. I am rating you down for being off topic, having an insulting subject line, and basically trying to start a flame war. There: I've posted and I've given my reason. Hope we can still be friends :-)

I'm so glad to know that someone else uses the karma system the way it was intended! I haven't been here too long, but I've seen people being rated down for being pleasant or posting guides/info etc., and other people rated up for being mean or ranting or whatever. Any time someone posts something happy or fun, I give them an "excellent" to hopefully offset the ones who down-rate them. And unless someone's being unnecessarily mean or rude or using really foul language, I don't like rating people down. Even if I disagree with the point they're trying to make, as long as they're civil about it I don't think they deserve a rate-down. ^_^

I can't help but wonder what this post is going to do to my karma? XD It seems to depend strictly on who goes into the thread much more than what the post actually says. @_@

Ok, I didn't rate you down for this first off. And despite the rest of this post, I don't think YOU made this "fact" up... but.

Someone sure as heck did! I can't beleive that anyone in that century, during a time of war, was conducting an unbiased scientific survey about a guy that tons of people (at the time)probably hadn't heard enough about to make any sort of opinion. Remember, they had no internet, they just had the rumor mill!

Now you all get to rate me down for posting off topic.

First off, I really couldn't care less about the Karma system...I read posts, and don't rate anyone.

But thats not the reason I wanted to post. I was just going to ask why people rate you down for your avatar...what's wrong with it?

Just kidding. but I will add that you haven't recently giving me any reason to rate you up. Crying about this and being all dramatic doesn't help. On second thought... I think I will rate you down...
