If people want to be whiny bags (of the douche variety) and rate you down because "you said X word/phrase that I take offense to/don't agree with" let them...They're only proving their own immaturity and lazyness/inability to handle their problems.

Karma is for the birds it comes and it goes. Dont let something as simple as a rate down ruin your day...Besides you have so many posts it would take an awful lot of rate downs to ruin your karma.

lady is right, the karma system is completely screwed.
it was designed to help the stupid posts (GET UR BOTZ HEER!!) off the damn board. instead, jerkwads and vindictive little retards decided to use it to rate people who didnt share their opinion, and rate people they didnt like for one reason or another.
its like giving a drunk, stupid, retarded, deaf, blind monkey a gun.... and a drop of acid.
the karma system is no longer used to keep spam and horrible things out, its used for revenge and petty differences.
lady is also right to be concerned. there are people who will go to the extremes for karma camping. they will create multiple accounts and camp the same person. the post may be completely informative... but the rater doesnt like the poster... so it gets rated alllll the way down to sub default, so no one gets to see it. yea, one person can do that.
theres not one god damn thing right about the karma system. it would **** you off too, if someone didnt read what you had to write, or hear what you had to say... simply because they are an idiot and dont like something you once said, or the look of your avatar.
ive been rated down for saying thank you. ive been rated down for giving advice, and even for giving tips. why? someone probably didnt like something i said X threads ago. ***** em, they can suck a fat one. if they are that concerned with my virtual standing, there is more that needs to be done in life. the only reason i could give a crap is because i itend for my posts to be read. if some jackass is going to stop my post from being read because of some god damn ridiculous reason he doesnt feel like sharing, im going to get pissed.

I don't like the way the rating system is used either, but this is pathetic. Anyone who takes this that seriously needs to be banned from these forums for her own good.

Meh, I started reading this post with a skeptical attitude towards you, LadyOfHolyDarkness, but as I read I agree - there is a serious karma problem with this site. There needs to be something done about it. I personally like the bit where you have to post something on the thread in order to rate other people. It sounds like a great idea...anyways, I support you Lady. Perhaps we can get a petition to change the karma system?

I wish they'd just get rid of it altogether. We don't need gurus and sages and scholars. We also don't need people deleting other people's posts. I realize that the reason for the ability to rate down is to remove bad posts, but why remove others simply because you don't like the poster. I'll admit that my higher rating makes mine harder to do this to, but what about the poster with 50-100 posts who's only been posting here for a week or two? They make someone mad and in another week or two, no one even sees their posts after the camper sees them.

Both Lady and TexasBelle have a point. It is very hard to get started here. I only perservered out of ignorance. A new person makes some bad posts, and every post after that dissappears. What happens to them as they learn the game, and are now able to contribute?
I say we get rid of the karma system as well! But Lady i didn't really understand what that was about though...

i dont think it's necessary to call anyone a derogatory name on this board, esp for something we all see again and again as a virtual karma system that um..doesn't affect our RL view of ourselves or RL self-confidence, and that we know is broken somewhat in what it was created to do but instead what people actually use it for.
now ive had individual posts of mine marked all the way down to 2.xx...but as you can see, I usu start at about 3.21 or so.
the markdown affects that one post...not your other marks which im not even sure how those get affected in the long run b/c ive been at this one spot pretty much for a few months now.

Then again, some people need to decide if their presence in this forum and site is to share and acquire information about this game or to gain some sense of validation through titles and "Karma". If it was the former I doubt you'd be upset about somebody you don't even know somewhere in the world "rates you down".
