MAKE GIL/ SAVE GILFollow

Everyday I see threads about "How can I make tons of gil super fast?!?!?!" Well I got news for you, there is no super fast way to make tons of gil. You have to work for it...a lot. Not that working for it is a bad thing at all. I'm currently saving up for Ochiudo's Kote (425k on Siren) and in the past 3 days I have made 132,000 gil. I know that is not a super amount of gil or anything, but it's the most I've ever had and I'm fairly proud of it. I took my 33mnk/16thf and hit the trail. The following is places I went to farm and what I killed and what I did with the drops.

And remember: Gilfinder, Steal, and Treasure Hunter is your friend...

Dangruf Wadi
This is a fairly decent farming area I think.

Giant Grubs
These little guys drop all sorts of goodies including:
Flint Stones: great for low lvl crafting or just sell to NPC for 5 gil each (it all adds up)
Zinc Ores: sells for about 300 a pop at the AH and sell fairly quickly
Hermit Rings goes for 900-1000 each at AH and pretty frequent drops from them.

Goblin Butchers, Tinkerers, and Ambushers
Awesome for gil drops if you have Gilfinder ability. Average gil drop is from 30-50 gil per goblin. The Ambushers drop Animal Glue and the Tinkerers and Butchers drop things like Brass Armor and Leather Armor, great for AH selling.

Goblin Leechers, Muggers, and Gamblers
A little more risk involved with these, but the rewards are great. First off the gil drops for these are even better than the other gobbies mentioned before (50+ gil per fight). These goblins have drops like Sneak, Silence, and Protectra scrolls. Lastly if you have the Steal ability you can grab Silver Beastcoins from these little punks. The Silver Beastcoins sell for about 4-5k per stack but I prefer to use my goldsmithing skill to craft them into Silver Ingots that sell for about 2k each and sell quickly. I farm all my crystals so the only gil invested in this is for synthesis support (60 gil) to insure there are no failures in crafting.

Treasure Chest Hunting
This is just something fun to do as you travel from area to area in the Wadi. Kill mobs like Tinkerers, Ambushers, Snippers, etc to get the Dangruf Chest Key then trade it to a treasure chest. Items found can be Tropical Shield, Lapis Lazuli, and Fish Scale Shield not to mention various amounts of gil can be had from these chests too.

Konschtat Highlands

Huge Hornets
These guys drop Beehive Chips that go for about 3k a stack or can be turned into Beeswax that is about 10k a stack. I prefer to just sell the beehive chips straight up.

Bees were the only thing I hunted in the highlands but sheep and rams are great gil makers too for their skins, teeth, and horns.

Pashow Marshlands
This is a goldmine of great drops

Goobbues
Treant Bulbs great for AH selling or just selling to NPCs for a quick buck
Boyahda Moss yes I know these go for like 7k a stack at the AH, but I prefer to take them to Meylon the Sheep Herder in Selbina, he will give you 600 gil per moss and it raises your fame a little bit at a time.
Tree Cuttings these little gems are the main reason I hunt Goobbues. these do not drop very often but when they do they can be sold for 4-5k each or planted and grown into Tree Saplings

Malboros
Malboro Vines i think these sell for about 1k each at the AH, i may be wrong on that though.
Dodge Headbands I got 4 of these hunting malboros yesterday, they sell at the Bastok AH for 2,800 gil or for quick money can be sold to NPC for 1,900 gil

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These are basically the only areas I visited in my gil raising quest, a few more pointers though:

Kill every Amesthyst Quadav you see as they drop the coveted Quadav Backplate great way for a quick 500-700 gil at the AH (most of these sell within 5 minutes from when i put them up for sale).

NM hunting
Yes it is fun hunting NMs, but I prefer a steady stream of smaller income as opposed to waiting for hours and possibly getting zero income, so I'll take farming over NMs anyday.

Making Gil is Good...But Saving Gil is Even Better
Yes learn to SAVE your gil!!!
Best way I have saved gil is to use your feet. If it's not an emergency, etc then walk to your destination. Chocobos, Teleports, and WarpIIs although extremely convenient can be costly.

In my opinion, saving gil is as important as making gil. I hope this helps and I know I haven't covered everything. Please others feel free to add more to this, and I appreciate you reading this lengthy post. Cya around!!!!

I'm glad someone is taking the time to point out where they farm and what sells for good money. ^^ I'm sure others have too, I just have trouble finding it. Also a good way to farm and gain Sandy fame is to go to Ronperres Tomb and kill a whole ton of bats for bat wings. You can give them 2 at a time to an NPC in North Sandy, 200gil instantly for 2 bat wings :)

Another great way to make gil is to buy some silent oils/prism powder (if you are not a mage with sneak/invisy) and go mine in ifrit's cauldron. I made 500k there in one day, adaman ore, gold ore, etc, etc

I used to mine in palburough mines alot, but mining has become alot more common, and finding mining points with 4-5 other miners is hard.

when i need money i do one of 2 things. i enjoin NM hunting. there is some risk of comming up empty handed but its a rush when a NM pops and you get his name to turn red.

i also think just fighting in palburough is great. you can get keys there too, i havent got anything but cash out of the chest as of yet, but still fun. if possible i like to get a mid level BLM to group with (35+). i take my 30 THF and pull 8-10 at a time and have the BLM nuke away. if you can get 30 gil from 8-10 mobs at a time it makes money come alot faster.

If I may add, you can also kill Wadi Hares for Gausbit Grass, although not stackable. They sell for a good 800 each in the Sandorian auctionhouse, I think, 500 in the Bastok one, atleast in my server that is. All-In-All, this thread is great, thanks for the guide ^^...

djdanlib's guide to creating and sustaining a healthy economy

Drop and Sort
If your inventory fills up out on the field, and you have hopes of getting more items, drop the stuff you know you can't make any money with. Don't forget to sort your inventory!

Import and Export
If you have the capital to start with, you can purchase things from NPCs in one town and sell them in the AH in another and pull a profit. A lot of higher-level people will pay a little more for convenience. Some items can return 33% or more profit - sell seven in a day, and you've got a lot of money back.

Import to Demanding Markets
If something sells well somewhere, and there is none of that item for sale there, be the one to bring it back on the market. For example: Someone in San d'Oria needs WAR gear, specifically Tiger-hunter axes. There are none for sale there, and you know where there is a glut of them. [Fiction, I know.] So, go buy a bunch of them, and put them on the market.

Strategic Bazaar Location
Sell something in your bazaar for Valkurm, Qufim or Kazham levels, and camp around the zones into the area. When a party zones due to aggro, or is entering or leaving, they might check your store - and lo, you will have the gear and items that they need. Please be kind and don't overcharge them - use the AH history for your guide here. You can reasonably undercut the AH this way and still make a profit.

Shout, Say and Emote: No.
Nobody really gives a crap if you have the most incredible four line /sh macro full of 0ld-sk00l ASCII art advertising what you're selling right now. Vendors hawking their goods annoy everyone enough that we've mostly got our chat filters on while we're in town. The only exception (and I mean ONLY) is if you're offering a teleport service and can keep the noise down. That's just useful information. If you MUST shout your advertisements, at least delay a few minutes in between the advertisements. Remember IRC etiquette!

Good old Crystals
Then again, there's crystal farming. Funguars reliably drop Dark Crystals, which have been selling for around 3000 gil per stack in San d'Oria. Orcs, Quadav, and goblins will drop Fire Crystals, which sell for right around 2000 gil just about anywhere. So, you could go raid Ghelsba, Ordelle's, Horutoto, or Dangruf Wadi and walk away from the auction house with a fat stack of cash in just a few hours. Be on the lookout for temporary undercutting to the tune of 500 gil on crystals at this price point, though.

Undercutting: Just say No!
Do not undercut if you really want to make good money - all you will do is encourage undercutting and temporarily lower the price of the items. Hold out for the higher price. You will receive the money in due time.

Overcharging: Just say No!
Likewise, don't sell or purchase things at an inflated price point. You'll encourage everyone else to do that too, and potentially create a bubble of inflation.

History Repeats Itself
As always, with the Auction House, try to keep things reasonable. Don't charge 2500 or 1600 for something that has been selling for 2000 for the past few days unless it was selling for 2500 or 1600 three days ago. Bubbles in the economy (typically over 5% of the item's price) will pass within a few days, after everything has balanced out again.

Timing and Patience
I will put auctions up right before I go out into Vana'diel for whatever reason, and check when I get back. I usually have more stuff to put up by then. I will also put up auctions before I log out. An opportunity wasted is gil you could have had. I expect to have sold some items in between sessions, since I usually only have one session per day. So, sleep on your auction, and when you wake up - it will have sold if there is demand for the item.

That's all for now! Post your feedback and rate all you want.

I don't NM hunt unless I specifically want the item drop for my own personal use. I agree that, in most cases, the money can be got just as simply by farming.

Only bother in Sandy. I tried in both Windy and Bastok, where my two characters are stationed, and it sold in neither place. Sandy, however, has a quest the Vine is good for. I was finally able to sell it in Sandy for 900 gil.

Thanks for the positive review! There are a lot of crossovers between real-life economics and in-game economics, as you'll see all over the place. There's also a lot of posts on economics as well - makes one want to subscribe to premium services so you can search for them :)

    Note: I'll add other stuff like quest names later. I'm lazy right now. -_-;

    DodoBird's Guide on Gil-making Quests
I just thought that I could make a little something to help out. More will be added as I do more research ^^.

    Why do Quests?
    1) You get gil instantly. You don't have to stand around and wait for stuff to sell in the AH. You just trade a little something to an NPC, and you've got gil in your pocket.

    2) Fame. Most repeatable quests will increase fame in the nation the quest is done in, so by doing this the items that you do end up selling to NPC's get you more gil. Building up fame is worth it in the long run, as the gil you get gradually builds up. Also, fame can help in other quests that don't just get you gil. (Utsusemi, anyone?)

    3) Other awards. Sometimes you get bonuses other than gil. Such is the case in things like the Eco-Warrior quest. Some, you get exp, others you might get a spell scroll. It varies. You can sell the stuff that you get for more gil, or you can save it for when it might come in handy. Your choice.

    THE QUESTS

    San d'Oria

    1) Bat Wings You can trade pairs (2, for you number people) of bat wings to an NPC in North San d'Oria standing at the top of the wooden stairs at the entrance to where all the guilds lay. He pays 200 gil for each pair, which is pretty good, that's about how much you'll get for selling them to the AH.

    2) Rabbit Hides You can trade 3 rabbit hides to an NPC outside the leatherworkers guild for 120 gil each time. You get a little less than you would if you sold the hides at the AH, but there's so many hides at the AH that it's worth it.

    3) Scroll of Drain You must have rank 2 and some fame (not sure how much) in order to do this quest. Buy a vial of beastmen blood at the AH. You enter the Chateau D'Orguille (sp?) and go down into the dungeons. (Bostannieux Oubliette, I believe they're called) Make sure you don't head down into the maze part. All you need to do here is stay on the upper level. Just don't go tell the guard to drop you into the labyrinth and you'll be fine. (I made the mistake of going down there as my level 30 war, got instant aggro, and died in 3 hits) Anyway, you'll find a dude wearing a robe down here, talk to him, then trade him the beastmen blood. He'll give you a scroll of drain. These sell for about 10k on the AH in Asura.

    *yawn* I need rest. I'll add more later. -_-;
