Sure it could. I share a connection at my apt with friends next door, we all play FFXI. That's 3 of us on whenever we play, and one other occasionally brings his computer over for lan parties (he also plays FFXI with us). So occasionally I have 4 people on the same connection all playing FFXI, and R stays around 150-200 when not in cities.

I can't imagine a 5th person would add THAT much more bandwidth usage, especially since this game is optimized for 56k, there's simply not that much bandwidth being used by it even on broadband. 56k running at full speed is only around 7K/s. So let's assume on a 1.5Mbit line (mines 3Mbit, but 1.5 is generally average for broadband), that the game runs at the full 56k speed, pulling 7K/s bandwidth. 7K/s * 5 connections = 35K/s. A 1.5Mbit line will get roughly 120K - 150K/s. So with 5 simultaneous connections utilizing full 56k speed, you're still only using about 1/4 of a 1.5Mbit connection.

Those 5 connections could easily use more bandwidth if needed, and still have room to spare.

To the OP.. pure insanity, but more power to ya :) I have no desire to spend that kind of money playing any game, but I'd do that myself whenever I just felt like not dealing with stupid people.

Yes, yes its 2007.. this will be my 4th year in FFXI hence I am updating (this) my regular annual post. lol!

How's everyone been? thinking about quiting ffxi? or hav actually been set free from the bonds of ffxi? Well, good for you! with all the server improvements and with pol's new intent to enable cross server travel it just makes it harder to quit after all this time. so i say bravo! to those who wer able to leave. Especially when i have and known ppl--some of which ive known since the very start--are still playing the game.

Anyways a little update on myself and my crew of 6 :) ...
crafting is what ive been doing most for the past year now my levels are:
Mightystrikes: Smithing:95+2
Hundredfists: Wood:100+3
Manafont: Bone:100+2
Perfectdodge: Leather:100
Chainspell: Gold:99+3
Benediction: Cloth:0 (my next project cloth to 100 lol)
Mule: Alchemy: 80

I have not been doing any end game stuff yet. maybe someday, but at the moment there's still alot of other things to do. so end game isn't my priority just yet.

my linkshell WindurstShell still survives, altho I accidently threw away my linkshell once! so the linkshell was destroyed and we had to create a new one called TheWindurstShell.. Thankfully, we had a website to collect all the members again.

I have not been playing alot the past 3 months, because ive been working on a new version for linkshells.org. http://www.linkshells.org just like playonline's linkshell community, has not been used often by ffxi players. I dont know why that is, but I'm just glad it's there for my linkshell to use and open for other linkshells to use as well.

I have upgraded my setup quite abit! I have a photo if anyone's curious of what my computer setup looks like: http://www.linkshells.org/albumphoto.aspx?albumid=223&page=1&sortType=6 I now have a 24 inch monitor as my main and 3 are 21 inches lol! i have upgraded several times because at first the computers we're just scraps put together lol.

So that's all for me, but most important thing I wanted to mention is I read alot of questions about if ffxi is dying. well it was dying no question about that cammon let's just face it anyone with a brain would see that. but now it looks like the bleeding's stopped. There has been alot of players coming back and new players joining in--just in the past month alone I think around 10 previous ls members came back to the game. I think pol did well putting a band-aid on the rmt issue. They made a mistake before: They didn't want to act because it meant losing alot of $$$. well there is hope :) they realized they made a mistake, they apologized, they corrected it, and moved on. (not officially apologized tho lol)

Have a great day, have a great year! see you all next year I hope :)

woah.. thats outright insane...

it would take a lot to be able to play all 6 characters at once and do it well..

bonus points to anyone who makes a version of windower that allows you to control all 6 at once on one screen using one interface!

Then.. it would maybe be the norm to see people playing multiple accounts at one time.. The prospect would be quite interesting to say they least.

Gill sellers do this already but they all suck and dont count imo..

Damn... I've controlled 4 people in a party once and I thought that was tough. I would love to see your macro pallets, maybe you have something I could use and haven't thought of yet.

Im talking about a way to use one screen/interface that allows you to send commands to the other machines so you can not only change what character you are controling at any time you can also control any character at anytime no matter what character you are currently controling.

Its different than just using 2 machines at the same time...

While not exactly what you're asking for, you can run multiple instances of Windower on a single machine.

I'm suspect of this because 9 times out of 10 the second client I'd start up would act goofy from time to time. I don't recommend this practice.

You would need a special version of windower that actualy doesnt run a screen at all that comunicates with the other interfaces on the main windower client and allows you to switch "characters" using a single interface..

Im kind of suprised this kind of stuff doesnt exist..
Especialy since its really possible for windower to allow for fully costomizable interfaces just like wow has right now.

All you need to do is make one interface that runs in front of all other applications and then just auto hide the old FF11 interface. Then you could make super mega 5000 FF11 interface that not only allows you to run multiple characters seamlessly but you can costomize it to your hearts content..

Im gonna stop now lol...

I would actualy consider running something like this if it did exist though. would be pretty freakin cool.. FF11 ... with a fully costomizable interface and being able to solo as two or more different characters at one time while not feeling like im playing the game on multiple machines? Different game id say...

very different ><..
Honestly it would maybe feel more like Disgea or an rpg RTS or something lol...
It has the depth to do well like that too.. Wouldnt be too crazy to allow you to control the other characters with a basic AI also..

LOL /wave @ kharma...

Maybe this is why SE should be more uptight about windower. The kind of potential it has if it fell into the hands of someone that can do something like the above is a very reall thing lol...

; ; im not a coder....

god damn it this whole concept has me thinking about it now ><... make the evil go away..

Why hassnt windower been set up for fully costomizable interfaces yet? ...
ok im stopping now..

Ouch, why would you do this to yourself?
I know you said you wanted a challenge, but it sounds painful, especially after four years!

I'm new to the game, and doing those long quests (chocobo, Kazham keys) which lasts 5 hours + are painful enough on one character, thank you very much. :P

meh, potential..if by potential you mean follow trains and repeatedly dying because you cant cycle to whm fast enough to heal your tank, multi boxing has potential enough.

Seriously..from his sig he has a lot of jobs, and when you think about the reasons to do this long term, i cant see any other explanation. You wont be five or sixboxing any fight more demanding than an average exp party. Heck, the op wont even be able to get a good haste chain going, or be able to even manage a link juggling between multiple characters wired up to use 3 or 4 common macroes. I've played with dualboxers, even people who were very good at it. They still are slow enough and unreliable enough that a dualboxing pl is worrisome, and dualboxing pt members wont contribute much to the pty ar all.

Why bother? To try different jobs? From the op's profile, hes pretty much tried em all. To level an alt? Thats cool, but why spend money on multiple accounts and computers for something you can do with maybe one other account, without the need to dual box, or even on the same one.

My guess would be ranching these characters to sell.

Why level 5 people at the same time otherwise? Why is he getting them to high-level in crafts, when he probably already has high level crafting on his main and its mules? Call me cynical and suspicious, but people who imitate rmt generally have rmtish goals in mind.

I think Neispace's comments were in poor taste. Seriously, how in the hell could the OP expect to profit from this venture after 4 years? You say that someone who seems to do what RMT do is somehow "RMTish".

Let's analyze a few things here. For 4 years the OP has been paying for SIX accounts. To make it easy, that's $13 a month x 6. That's roughly $78 a month (not counting mules). That's $936 a year. That makes a grand total of $3744 dollars spent by the OP to do this over the span of 4 years.

Why on Earth would he take 4 years to build up 6 accounts only to sell them? And WHY would he update the thread with his progress? Don't you think he'd want to be cranking out more than just 6 characters in 4 years? Like maybe....6 a month? THAT is RMTish.

The OP is just nuts. I would never punish myself like this. I have enough trouble pulling mobs and buffing my merit PTs as BRD.

(btw, when I say "nuts", I mean it in a good way, the amount of brain power needed to maintain such a venture as written by the OP is beyond my capabilities as a Human Being).

Stop being so @#%^ing obnoxious. I just don't like people. I'd gladly pay for 6 accounts a month to play by myself than end up having to turn to people with attitudes such as yourself for help with anything.

Decent people are hard to find these days, it seems.

I recall a sig that says something to the effect of

Quote:
You say it's your 14.95 so you can do whatever the hell you want, but in an xp party it's our 74.95 a month, and we think you're retarded

In this guys case he's making it his 74.95 a month so he doesn't have to deal with other retards. I don't have the money to do this, but I can at least respect him doing it. It's his money afterall, and given that I remember when he did this first post ages ago and the updates, so I trust that he's not just doing a bunch of RMT / character selling stuff.

Grats on the progress. Very impressive.
