He's a hacker. I believe that. There just isn't enough time in one's life to do all that! Unless you absolutely spend all your time glued to a computer screen. And don't tell me you started on the NA version with out some type of hacking...that's fkn impossible.

That's so lame. You can not do it, so obviously he must be a hacker....

This is not uncommon at all, and really not that hard if you have a little dexterity. He plays all the characters at once, so it really does not take much more time than other people who play one character, except for selling and shuffling.

With 5-6 PCs set up and using the normal macros system of FFXI this would be easy actually. They make custom racks for seeting up multiple computers for one person use, complete with keyboard holders. You can position the keyboards anyway you choose and lock them into place. Use a sticky key program when you are in a camp to so that either CTRL or ALT is allways considered pressed. You now have ten macros per player in your little PT. That should be plenty for XPing. After that, it is similar to playing a piano and you only have to remember where you notes are.

Sounds pretty fun to me actually.

Really, with all the advances in computing these days, it could be even easier. 50 inch LCD split into six seperate screens for 6 PCs to use. A custom keyboard could be made just for 6 sets of CTRL ALT 1-0 (Engineer friends of mine could do this easy, it woudl just have 6 USB plugs).

This guy would be stupid to be botting, after posting here on Alla several times about his set up and giving his real character names. I believe you are legit Chainnspell, and the geek in me is impressed, and a little jealous.

Have you considered a master keyboard?

If your computers are anything like mine, then you can plug a keyboard into the Usb, and the ps2 port, and both will work fine.

You can then creat macros for all of your guys that you can just hit when you want to. For example:

ctrl+1:
player 2: /follow player 1
player 3: /follow player 2
player 4: etc...

ctrl 2: everyone does:
/ma "Sneak" <me>
/wait 4
/ma "Invisible" <me>

ctrl 3:
blm: /ma "Freeze" <bt>
melee: /wait 8, /ws "whatever" <bt>
melee2: /wait 12, /ws "whatever" <bt>

ctrl 4:
melees: /attack <bt>, /wait 3, /follow <bt>

use your imagination. Basically with one keyboard you could issue the same command to all your guys, so it would be alot easier. You would have to use seperate keyboards when you send your rng out to pull. But for the most part, it would make things a bit easier on you.

Yeah I'm on Unicorn and I've seen the famous Chainspell many times. I often glance at all his characters following eachother and I think "great, gilsellers are going to ruin this party's exp..." but then I see it's him and I get very releaved ;)

Anyways he also leads one of the biggest social linkshell in Unicorn.

Yay for chainspell!

I think it is completely feasible. As discussed by previous posters, there's no technical problem. Also, it is not a financial problem if you have a decent regular income (and don't waste your money on other hobbies lol).

Remains the skill required to pull it off. Here I actually think it is easier to control an entire party than just 2 or 3 characters. Why? Because you don't have to watch what the other players are doing for reacting accordingly. You're in full control. Think of skillchains for example, you don't have to time them with others, but you execute them fully by your own.

I hated this guy....for a long time....and wasnt sure why. I think I thought he was a gilseller.....but then I seen him around helpin people out an realized he wasnt so bad after all. Then one night Windy orchastrated a full take over of Ronfaure, and I knew he had to be behind it. So I hated him again. Then he gave me a key for my AF in Castle Zvahl (inv to join pt, cast lot on key) so he's not to bad again. So all in all...he is....well I'm not sure...but I think it equates to "Ok by me" or something similar

Hiya Chainspell!

Not sure if you remember Beera and Beeraga when we were on Unicorn. We stopped playing for a few months and lost our characters. We're on Phoenix server now.

I remember you were in our linkshell, nice to see your still around!

^^

Edit:
Oh yah, and Hi to everybody on unicorn from Beera and Beeraga ^^

Ha ha, I remember a Beera on Unicorn.

I also remember the first time I saw Chainspell, etc running around Windurst doing quests - it was incredibly confusing... Now he's one of the most recognizable chars on the server.

Yah part of me misses Beera and Unicorn but once we lost our characters and couldnt get them back (prior to the whole return to Vana'Diel thing) we just decided to start fresh and landed in Phoenix.

Things I remember from Unicorn:

I remember starting Beera with my wife (well, she was my GF back then ^^), a chick character. She was taking a Beer class at the time at UCD. But then I got so hooked she never played so I took over Beera.

Then I remember waiting at the PS2 store in San Francisco at midnight for the release of the PS2 version/HD.

Then we created Beeraga for my wife.

I remember being one of the first people on Unicorn to beat all the lvl 20 avatars and ironing out a strategy for the battles.

I remember being in a really cool LS with Chainspell.

I remember someone giving me 10k gil when I started out just to be nice. And this was when you could get an Emp Hairpin for under 80k.

I remember the Dunes being a popular destination.

But hey, at least my character is a dude now!

HIYA Chainspell! :D I remember I always used to /poke Manafont all the time to see if I could get a reaction out of you... and it worked most of the time. :D

And yes, Hiya to everyone else on Unicorn and the 'ol Linkshell!

And I must say, I'm glad too that you (Hemphog) have a guy taru now. It's nice not having to explain to everyone why your character is a girl. :P

mmmmm. Beer.

Still, seems like a large expense ($60+ a month) for the ability to not be social in a MMORPG.

People make that in an hour, guys...

lol now how did u figure that out :) that is exactly why i cant skill chain well in an alliance or lets say im leveling just 5 characters, the 6th guy goes... dude u missed a mb, or dude i needed stona and poisona. lol i dont really read ls lines when im exping, i dont read the text bar for statuses and stuff when im exping most of the time - to me it just plays entirely in my mind. i see a mob, call the play, push some buttons, look up, react, push some buttons, etc. lol

lol nah that wasn't so hard... can u say maat x 6 lol. i dont do too well soloing since im so used to 6, i mean most of the job abilities takes common sense to use. but people who control just 1 character are used to surviving on their own - using every magic spell in their ******* to survive a fight. heck if mana got aggroed it would take me a sec to think about binding him then another second to find the bind spell. lol. i hav a macro that does elemental seal + sleep 2, and normally thats wat i would use, but if someone asked me to bind something it'll take a few secs lol.

wow, unbelieveable Chainspell!

I knew someone who dual boxed and that that was awesome, well I thought it was a g/f-b/f team due to the roleplaying ... and I though this for the better part of a year.

Once I found out the truth ... O_O /newb

But to think you play 5 characters, that's some serious talent

I'm sure you don't need pointers but I'd fab up some sort of keyboard rack if I was you, or just use a programmable controller instead of a kyb for the non-mains to save keystrokes.

I got a kick out of the effort to setup more than 2 speakers per pc too ^^
#96 Aug 24 2005 at 4:18 PM Rating: Decent
hehe its 6 characters now :)

and each computer actually has 5.1 surround, the surround speakers are on the back of the monitors and the volume controls are stuck at the right side of the monitors :) except for the laptop.

there is also a 7th account and i use an AVM switch on the left side of the table and the far right monitor switches between benediction and my 7th pc. i use this pc to look things up online or watch a downloaded movie. the tv on top can mirror wats on my 7th pc so i can keep watching movies or pull up a map while still having 6 screens on. the picture doesnt show but on the back on the right hand side is where my sound system is, so i can watch cable, dvd, vhs and whatnot on the tv. i can switch the sound to make it digital and hav chainspell's sound come out of my reciever too, but the thump and bass is too loud sometimes so i just stick with the 5.1 speakers ontop of the monitors.

Just a few comments:

1) Please take a video of you controlling all of your characters in an XP party situation, I am sure that would be pretty entertaining.

2) You're going to get cancer from having 5 monitors beaming electrons at your face (unless you have 5 LCD screens.) At the very least, you're going to become sterile. Smiley: laugh

wOot Chainspell!

Seriously, you need to take a picture of your set up and post it. Out of all of that technology, you *have* to have a digital camera. :P We can even host the pic for ya. :D

All I have to say is...

You need to find yourself a girl. Your not a eunich are you?
Or the reason you play so much is you have found a girl and are otherwise incapable of wooing her.

Anyone know what thats from? ^.^
Pirates of the Caribbean! Woot, I have to give points to Johny Depp for that role ...
