This is kind of a reverse noobie moment since I was more noobie than the person I had an altercation with. I was in King Ranpierre's Tomb at level 11 or so, fighting dingbats for a quest. I was standing there, around the area where the NM Crypt Ghost spawns and some level 60 person was spamming me in tells. I'll call him ****.

****: Get the f*ck out of here, this is my claim
Me: Ummmm... I'm just here for dingbats and goblins, don't worry.
****: Get the f*ck out of here. I've been camping for hours.
Me: Don't worry, I don't think I could take him anyways. LOL, just here for dingbats and goblins.
****: You better not take my claim, that's my claim. WTF. STFU and GTFO!
Me: Listen, I'm level 11, why would I take something 10 levels about me.
****: Don't take my claim. It's my claim!

Um...paranoid much?

It's all beside the point anyhow. Despite having claims I was going after taken more often than not, it's not someone else's MOB until its name turns purple. It always bothers me when people think that the game is going to hand them things simply because they've been waiting around for it. Yes, it sucks when you camp something for an hour and someone else runs over and tags it as it pops. But that's life. And anyone who can't handle that, well, I sure as hell don't want em in my party or my game.

So you were in the double-right. Heh.

Here's a good one.

My 75SAM friend and me, a 75 DRG, start shouting for an AM15 party (Aht Urghan Ashu Talif mission). We get a PL and a WHM, and try to find a RDM. Not too long afterwards, I get this /tell.

JPRDM>>> {Red Mage}L V 7 2 O K ?

Silly me, I thought he was joining if I paid 720k. He really asked if a Lv 72 was ok for the party.

So, I respond

JPRDM >> {Money} {No, Thanks} {Fun} {Yes, Please}.
>>JPRDM {/nod}
JPRDM >> {I'm Sorry, No money!}

FORTUNATLY he spoke enough english to catch my mistake.

>>JPRDM>> No;; {Red Mage} lv 72;;
JPRDM>> OOOHHHH ;>.<;
/invite JPRDM

I need to learn Japanese. I shudder to think what it'll be like if I don't learn it soon.

I don't really thing reading Japanese at that point would have helped, but that was pretty funny none-the-less.

Mine's not really a Noob story, but it's something that happened to me.

I was playing with my lv. 25 whm and was trying to get the keys so i could go to Kazham.

It was late and I decided that I would log out and try to get the keys the next day. I was at the very top of Ghelsba Outpost, so I went into a corner and I try to log out. The moment I kneel to log out, I aggroe an Orc. I had about 1 second left before I would log out, and it gets a lucky hit. I'm trying to run away from him going down instead of trying to zone to Fort Ghelsba. As I'm running down, I aggroe just about EVERY single Orc on the map. Luckily I barely survive with about 20 hp left.

Unfortunatly, I managed to get a train on every area where you need to get a key from, and died at the Palborough Mines. :(

Okay, I've posted my share of "I was a noob" stories, so it's only fair that I get to share this Amazing Dunes Moment with you all. It's a generic Dunes party, not spectacular, but not awful. One of the members, the BLM, is a bit bossy, which I don't normally mind if they are saying things that help the party, but most of his advice is either things we were already doing or just plain wrong.

Whenever he gives bad advice (such as telling the WAR/MNK tank not too boost because it just makes him attack slower), I point out how very, very incorrect a philosophy that is. Of course, he has a ton of 75 jobs and knows exactly what he is doing. I point out that I've also made it to 75, and that's not always a mark of brilliance. . . but whatever.

Anyway, a subjob item drops (the apron). Now, there are one or two people in the party that need it, so we tell them to roll, and everyone else passes. When I went into the treasure pool, though, I happened to notice that the BLM has passed on all of the Beastman Seals. Now, I don't care HOW full one's inventory is, you can always make room for Beastman Seals. So we have a conversation that goes something like this.

Aden: You're passing on Beastman Seals?
Noob: yeah
Aden: Huh, okay.
Noob: i cant use em
Aden: Come on, BCNMs aren't that hard.
Noob: wtf ever. im not a beastman
Aden: . . . . . . . . . what?
Noob: read the item noob it says beastmen use them.

That sound, by the way? That's the sound of your brain slamming into a mental brick wall. Now, if he'd been a NICE new player, that would have been one thing. But since he was being a bossy little tart, and since he pretended to be a high ranking player to cover up his ignorance, I figured. . . ***** it. More Beastman Seals for me.

How can you tell by looking at the treasure pool if someone has passed on it? I have never seen anything that shows that.

There will be dashes instead of a ? or number next to the person's name if they passed on it when you're viewing the treasure pool.

Given the length of this thread, I'm going to lock it soon to save on forum screen space and load times, etc. Feel free to start a new one at that point and link to this one in it. The thread here will not be nuked, so if you have the link you will be able to see the old ones.

Thanks,
Admin Kao

well I started at the beginning of FF11 in us and I never did any noob mistake until I join my first HNMLS. Was back two years ago, my macro werent reall ythat good at that moment and I was just accepted in a LS that I really wanted to go in, so it was the first evening and OMG we got fafnir claim XD was really excited and a bit nervous too, we start fighting everything went fine when I notice my SS was out, I was really nervous at that time since I didnt know what to do, so I recast it, going into my macro looking for Stone and I press it. Sadly as you all know macro have only 5 word in them and this wasnt my Stone -skin macro but rather my stone -ga III macro. So yeah I aggro everything, people start panicing and we wiped XD Since that time I dont have stonega macroed anymore XD and I changed the way my macro were named XD Lucky me, the HNMLS still accepted me and I had the best 4 month I ever had with any LS I was in. Early this year I was back from a break and I totaly forgot about the magic aggro weapon in Sky so I died while trying to re-cast sneak <.< well no biggy XD

Oh and yeah on my first 15 level I was throwing everything I got didnt know about selling stack and stuff.

I remember my first party ever, in the dunes of cause. :P
I had no chat filters on, no colors changed for better notification,
no idea how to target the engaged mob besides using the mouse...

As the first mob was brought to the camp i discovered a very valuable function:
Auto-Run. Needless to say I totally screwed up und died 50 meters from the camp.

/sigh

Using an "ability" sometimes is easier than actually controlling it.

I think Susaninthegarden has just had a nOOb moment. Smiley: lol Small joke at the expense of you < thread.

Go to Treasure and look for 1 of 3 markings next to someones name in your party. It will be:

--
???
361

??? is of course, no lot, no pass
361 is a Lot on the item
-- is a pass on the item.

And there you have it.

I can't believe I went to this level but did not know that. Ironically the very first noob moment I had was when a friend and I went out to the canyon and the leader, Anwar, decided she wanted all the yag necklaces. She told us to give them to her and being very new we were trying to do that. Unfortunately we couldn't find them. They weren't anywhere in our items. She stood over us poor little tarus with the very grouchy hume face and told us to pass on them in the treasure box. (notice how she told us and never asked)
We both looked around and could see no treasure box and told her that. Getting very angry she told us it was over by the names of the party members.
We both looked and didn't see a thing. After repeated attempts she screamed at us and stomped off.
It wasn't untill a later party we finally saw the little icon for treasure. Never did know why she didn't tell us about the menu listing for it. lol I am sure she thought we were lying but we weren't. Oh gosh for the innocence. lol.
