So far, so good with the fishing. Made recruit tonight, but I still can't catch anything but rusty buckets using lures in freshwater areas...

the price on a stack of Quus went up from 800 to 1500

In my honest opinion, as long as a stack of quu remains 2000gil and below, this is considered good.

on Asura the price for a stacl of quus use to be 2000g exact.

doing the the quest 60 times over using stacks of quus at this price nabbed me 18,000-20,000 gil.

Yes quus can be bought for a whole lot cheaper at the shop that was mentioned in my guide, but the convenience of buying at the auction house, as long as the price for stacks are 2000g and below is considered good enough in my opinion.

think of it this way, 200 gil per quu x 12 = 2400gil.

that means 500 prize money deducted by 200 gil per quu investment = 300 gil profit per bubbly bernie quest completion.

and quus bought in bulks of stacks is 2000gil compared to buying per quu that amounts to 2400 if bought separately to amount to a stack.

so a gain of 300 out of 500 profit per round thats around 50% + out of the investment percentage is considered good.

if people tried to sell quus that ended with a 200 or 250/500 profit ratio per round, nobody sane would buy those quu stacks.

Anyway now quus are not worthless anymore as i've promoted this repeatable quest and given quu prices a healthy 1500-2000gil pricing at auction houses.

also people can make money using the quest without having to buy quus from the auction house if they choose too, thus limiting sellers of stacks of quus so they don't over charge as they won't profit because nobody will buy their quu stacks.

Fishing for quus requires lv fishing lvs of 1-6 or so :) so newbies can make a living not only from catching moat carp but also from quus.

and don't forget, with a steady line of people doing this quest, it will be easier to form team work groups that can try out the team work methods of doing this :)

So the groups that benefit are repeteable quest players + fishermen + newbies in general tough on their luck making money =^-^=;

I think in a few levels I'm going to go and fish for quus at the lighthouse and just sell them to questers for 42 Gil each. That's about 500 a stack. If business is slow, I'll go sell them in the Bastok auction house. But until then, I'm fishing for Tuna and Yellow Globes. Right now, it's the leveling that matters to me, not the money.

thnx skyline.

Lol do you people think my guide will make it to www.gamefaqs.com

:) ???

well if somebody wants to help rearrange my guide neatly it probably good heh =^-^=;

The info is probably 90% accurate but the layout is too ugly ;(

Anyway that site you mentioned didn't even put me in credits :( bastards lol.

They were refering to an old version of my guide.

Anyway this was one of their comments.

Quote:
You'll need to be able to solo a lv 9-10 crab that does shell and def boost itself, which makes this a great adventure for lower levels.

Buy a stack of Quus (under food in the AH), it sells for 1-1.5k per stack. Then go to S. Gusta Lighthouse in the SE corner. Around back is a bush with a ??? when you target it. Give the bush 1 quus and a named crab will spawn. Kill Bubbly Burnie, a lvl 9-10 mob, and loot the Steam Clock. He also randomly drops land Crab Meat (which sells for ~250gil at vendor or more at AH) and Water Crystals.

The Steam Clock is marked Lore so you can only have one in your inventory at a time. Take it to Bastok Markets and give Malene the clock and she will give you 500gil and some fame. You can find her in the house next to Sororo's Notary shop.

To make this quest faster, do the Backalley quest by buying an Amaryllis from the AH for 400gil and give it to the little girl just outside the residential area in Port Bastok. She will teach you how to use the back alleys and you can enter the mog house in the mines and exit from your mog house in the markets. It saves a ton of time doing this, the only faster way is to be a lv17+blm and warp, or a 25+ thief and /flee.

This quest is repeatable and I've done it over 1000 times so far. My character's fame is maxed in Bastok and I get quests that I can't even find info on from almost every NPC.
Not bad turning 1k into 6k and it only takes a lv 12+ character for it to be really easy, less if you have decent equipment or duo it.

You can also get a group together and we did this for faster exp. Give all the Quus to one person. Have that person go to the lighthouse and spawn the fish. Have everyone pass on it except one person.. The Fighter at the lighthouse just passes every time and the other 5 of us ran back and forth. We made about 10k each in an hour using 5 this method.

If you don't want to be trapped in price changing of Quus, you can try fish Quus at the jetty near fishing guild in Windurst. Make sure you use the right bait and rod. I recommend Sabaki rig and Carbon rod.

If you are extremely lazy, you can also just buy the Quus in Windhurst and San for 1k a stack and sell them in Bastok for 2k a stack.

Enjoy!

=^-^=; not sure if this is true though as i just did this quest just once 60 times straight.

Hm ... thats a nice idea. Exporting quus from the shop that sell them for 1000g a stack and exporting to Bastok ah for 2000g.

nice @_@:

Not bad, not bad.

This is the most detailed I've seen someone ever get into such a small (but potentially powerful) quest; your enthusiasm is refreshing. :P

I have only 2 worries; first, the amount you -could- be making includes the profit you are passing up by selling what you are using for cost.

Err, that's a bad way to explain it.

Basically, if I can sell a stack of Quus for more money than I will get doing the quest 12 times, I am MAKING A LOSS on the quest.

If Quus stacks are ~2000, though, that shouldn't be a problem.

Second, SE tries to balance the economy as much as it can, and is doing the right thing by that. Even though the profit is heavily influenced by player-driven economy, if so many people are doing this quest so often to make money, SE will take notice, and it's possible that the quest is nerfed somehow. Of course, this wouldn't happen until the next update(3 months? 4?), but it's something to keep in the back of your mind.

Otherwise, it's a great way to make small amounts of cash very quickly.

In response to Kuraiou:

You made some good points.

Yes opportunity cost is an issue. However, fishing/buying & reselling Quus for a profit will have an even shorter lifespan (someone will notice your scheme eventually), and is not guaranteed.

Just as an FYI, Quus are 500/stack on my server.

I think the main point of the guide is for low levels (12-30) to make some guaranteed cash in the range of 5-15k, enough to buy weapons and armor to hit 30.

which it is, definitely.

I should spend some time doing the quest, in fact :P

And I _did_ qualify my statement saying that the price of quus isn't really high enough at the AH for it to be a relevant issue, just that it -is- a viable scheme for some time, considering that the demand for quus is rising so much so fast, and some people are too impatient for fishing... :P

Tried this scam of making money awhile back and although it was a fool proof to make gil, the zoning back and forth was too much.

I too have found this quest to be too time consuming.
there are better ways of making money, this quest is for lvl 13-16 to make money cause at lvl 17+ farming is actually easier than the time taken to do this quest. At lvl 25 after you complete the Kazham airship quest you can simply ride the airship back and forth and do the "dropped item" quest for 500 gil and you can up your crafting or your magic skills while riding the airship there is nothing to kill at all and nothing to trade or buy. Its free 500 gil profit no loss, if you have a good memory.

Just a small note for the airship quest. It can only be done once a game day (every hour) and only on trips TO Jeuno. So while the quest pays for your airship ride, you'll definitely make more farming than 500 gil/hour.

Um i have done it back to back all day before with no 1 game day wait time. and yes it is only from kazham to jueno but the airship ride is only 5 min so its still shorter than the bernie quest. on the way from Jueno-Kazham you can always craft to up your skill or if your a magic user chain cast on yourself to upgrade your magic skills. the point is no kill, no buying items to complete the quest, you don't have to trade anything, you don't have to travel back and forth between a long zone, and no inventory room is needed. Its the lazy way to do the quest. every 15 min you make 500 gil with no down time and you also raise your fame for other areas on this repeatable quest.

Me and two friends who all live in england found the best way to exploit this quest. A three person party is needed. ONe person is designated the "chopper" who basically kills bernie. Then using Cast Lot/Pass item, the clock is given to one of the other 2, who then send it to themself. Take it in turns to lot for the clock until you have sent 8. THEN go to mog house and check your deliviry box, and you can leave anohter 8 in your sending box. Then rotate who is chopping and who is mailing. After about 30 minutes, all three of you will have 16 clocks to give to malene, (8k gil for the mathematically challenged among you). The time it takes to go back and forth between the NPC and mog house depends on your indiiviudal speed but usually 25-45 minutes. SO you can make 8k an hour out of this.

I've done this to get fame to get warp scroll, trust me, it works!!!

Are you sure it's EX? I think it's just Rare, meaning you can only have one at a time. I thought I heard of people doing the trick with one person waiting at Zone while the other fights Bernie. But I could be wrong.. I might go try this out tonight.. I need some money ;)[/quote]

it isnt ex; it sells in the windy AH

Pallier the Great

You are very right.

I've been using the airship for extra cash for a very long time now. i'm not sure if anyone else remembers this, but there was a time when you could do the quest from Jeuno to X and back again. I loved it them. solved many of my money problems.

But one the the patches a few months back nerfed that.

/cry

I still use it now for cash from time to time. and Pallier your also correct what a great time level your crafting.
