Of all the support jobs, these seem to be the most under-valued contributers (I see the sitting around all the time LFG), and I don't know why. Your group regens HP, you get attack boosts and defense buffs, MP regen (over level 25), Mob debuffs, and much more - all without using MP. They also contribute a bit to Melee and can fill-out a skill chains. This allows the caster classes to not worry about incidentals, and focus on their core business.

Every time I group with one of these folks, a decent party becomes an unstoppable XP chaining juggernaut.

Anyway, just a good word for you Bards. If you see a bard, give them a hug, and a smooch, maybe a few gil. ;)

Ditto to the thank you! :)

Every once in awhile a thread like this scrolls through the front page here on allah and it makes me get all warm and fuzzy.. and trust me.. a galka that's warm and fuzzy is unstoppable! :)

I rarely have seek up for more than a few minutes though.. heck, I feel like a whm sometimes with invites when I'm not seeking.

I have a blast as bard and I really like being wanted by groups! :)

A galkan bard? That's awesome!

Everytime I see a thread like this, I have to add on to it. Bards are one of the best classes out there! I bet everyone with half a mind would take a good brd/whm over a whm/(insert sub here) anyday.

So I lift this pint to you, my bard friends! May partying always be plentiful!

Edit: spelling

I was thinking about being a bard. And I probably will be. Bit I would like to know if one of their instruments is a violin?

Last night I was in a group with a bard and we had zero downtime and were chaining ITs in the dunes. Admittedly we had an outside healer helping us a bit, but it was my first party with a bard and it was the best party I'd ever been in. I blame the bard for our effectiveness.

I love bards too!! Not that I'm biased or anything ...

But I wish more people knew how much a bard can add to the group. I was in a party at the dunes leveling my BLM and we had a full party with 2 whm at the time. One of the whm has to leave and there was a bard at our level lfg. If I was leader I would have invited them right away ... unforunately, I wasn't and I had to fight to try and get them invited (and lose btw). The remaining whm inisted on finding another whm. This, of course, irritated me to no end since I'm a whm and know how to keep my group alive without another whm helping. Yes, its always nice to have backup, and yes, 2 whm can work very well, but stopping completely to WAIT for another whm seemed ridiculous to me. And she wouldn't beleive me when I told her how great a bard can be as a supporter. Oh well ... someday she'll know ... hopefully the sooner the better. But I politely bowed out of the group after about 2 minutes of waiting and warped home ... mumbling under my breath the whole way ;)

I wish there were more instrument types.. but there is only singing, wind, and string instruments.. and I have never seen anything but harps for string.. I could be wrong.. but I haven't heard about lutes or violins at all.

For wind, there are flutes, cornettes, horns, and the like.. but that is all I've seen besides the harps..

A lute would be the bomb!

Yeah, I'm a galkan bard and I love it! You see galkan bard npc's all over the place.. sure they don't have the highest chr but meh! I'm not a power gamer.. I'm in it for the fun. I have been commented on my abilities as a sub /whm in both positive and negative manners.. the low mp thing is a hangup most people can't get passed.. but the fact that with items, I have a good amount of MP when I'm subbing whm. I'll have a ton more when I get my RSE too! +96 from those 4 pieces of equipment.

whm is my sub.. so it's not as important as my main job.. but I take them both very seriously. I see my position as a support character to make sure the party does well. I try not to be bossy.. but sometimes I have to instruct people on where to stand, and when to NOT do certain things.

I really strive to make sure nobody in the party dies! Especially the whm.. because I respect their job so much and they are sometimes "expected" to take one for the team with benediction if things go bad. As Bard, I try to share that burden by using my sub to help out the whm and anyone else who needs it.. and I will gladly take an ill linked or aggro'd monster away from the group and sleep him so we can high tail it to a zone!

When I become a bard. I am going to hold little conserts (for free, duh) where I tell stories of adventures that I meet during my journeis to other lands. I would play music here and there to give the story some feeling into it. And me, being a musician, will love being a bard with the amount of music I have already seen in stores.

Sorry about my spelling, I'm not very good at it.

Wow, you guys must still be noobs if you think bards are undervalued. At the higher levels, bards are one of the most sought after classes after WHM.

We don't undervalue Bards, but it seems like some do (I seem to see more sitting around than WHM).

Just got finished in a Dunes party with my Bard friend. 2 levels in 2 hours. I've got a smile on my face, for the whole Hume'n race, why it's almost most like being...

I can comment on the "being sought after" post.. a guy I barely know said I get mary's horn and 10 more levels in bard.. he'll make me a rich man with bcnm's...

I've killed mary once.. only got milk.. but I'll keep trying.

I absolutely love bards... In fact, i deleted my mithra, so i can start a taru and be the best bard on Carbuncle :) I know, it wasnt necessary to do so but im stricken with a desease i call uber-eliteness... its where one has to be the best at what one does... even if it means waisting 3 months just to get 8 more charisma :)

But its worth it, bards are a founding stone in an extreme lvling party... In fact i have a friend who was 1 bard with 5 melees and had little to no down time while getting 200 xp a shot... although i think he cheated cuz some of them had whm subs.

Well heres to you all, and sooner or later, youll all have major competition on whos the best :)

Bards are a great asset to any battle. Carol stops Ifrit from knocking out the whole front line with his 2 hour. Sleep is great for BCNM 40 and so on. Keep rocking on Bards.

Just because you're not as valued as a WHM doesn't mean you're undervalued. Once you're past 25 (which is still the newbie game), bards are the 2nd most sought after job simply because of their rarity. I've been in more groups that whined for a bard than a WHM that we didn't have.

If your measurement of how undervalued a job is by measuring yourself to those of a WHM, then *ALL* classes but WHMs are undervalued. :rolleyes;

mid lvl bards a are true XP groups dream tbh, they reduce downtime, less downtime leads to faster pulling of mobs meaning more XP chains, meaning More XP. they are also very very useful in the BCNM fights that have many adds in them, for their crowd control sleep skills are invaluable. if i am ever Pickup grouping for XP ill always invite a bard if possible.

another thing that makes them so awesome is sword madrigal.... were getting slaughtered by an IT mob and were losing, missing constantly

then the bard steps up and BAM!! casts madrigal and we rarely missed. coupled with valor minuet we werent missing an hitting for extra damage. we absolutely slughtered it to say the least and we gained an awesome amount of xp that day

ive been in a party with a bard twice and both times they have been the fastest i have ever got xp in a party

so i say we should have more bards and they should be appreciated a whole lot more :)
