Maze of ShakhramiFollow

From Windurst, you can go to Tahrongi Canyon and then to the Maze of Shakhrami. There, as a level 14 Mnk, have been getting EXCEPTIONAL XP(about 200 a kill) from maze makers(IT with High Def and Evasion) with a full party. Gained 2 levels in less then a hour almost. Thing is, sometimes there are a lot of parties fighting over these maze makers and it gets hard to level. It's hard to even find a party in the first place. Well, if anyone needs a good place to level at levels 11-16 and is near the Tahrongi Canyon area, go to the Maze of Shakhrami, AWESOME XP.

Just watch out for that damn Goul!!!

Yeah the maze is great. The night I went there with my 14 mnk was one of the most fun nights I've ever had playing FFXI. Had a great group, lots of exp, and thrilling moments (like being chased by the goul, getting lost and not being able to find the zone and finally finding it with 2 health!).

Shakhrami is a fairly good place for lvl 12-16 windurstians to level, but of course you gotta be careful of the higher level mobs around there. The gobs and ghouls love to aggro like crazy!

The buburimu penninsula is good from 16-20 when the novelty of the maze has run out. Find a good party and you can do really well there.

Not to many pt's decide to fight in Bubu so you can stay near the zone to Thanrongi (at the outpost for safety while still being able to drag in a contininous stream of mobs.
Also alot of higher levels travel thru the area by foot on their way back from Mhaura and most aren't to busy to help you if needed.

Death in the maze and penninsula is the reason why you see the Kolshushu region often in the control of beastmen (it's like a windurstian rite of passage to not have crystal drops from 11-16 as someone aptly and humourously put it quite a while back). Both are great places to level but you gotta watch out for the aggro mobs, especially that ghoul - haha. Gotta love those ghouls that can sniff out those about to die.

Poekie's right too, once people hit 15-16, majority flock over to the brighter sandy beaches of Selbina to level and complete the subjob quest there leaving the grey, dreary often rainy penninsula barren most nights. I farm Bull Dhamels there quite often and rarely ever see anyone level there (compared to say the over infested blinding white sandy beaches of Selbina). Lots of high level traffic though as already mentioned. People pass by all the time to and from Mhaura. If you can get someone of high level to help you kill bogeys, I strongly suggest accepting the mhaura subjob quest - much less headache. I personally prefer the mhaura subjob quest and helped out quite a few people who asked me when I was in the area, but I digress.

I pretty much skipped the 'Maze Phase' altogether. Every party i was in that went there was not effective at all, and we were lucky to get a Maze Master every 5 mins. Even at 200xp a kill this is not worth while. I would recommend Bubu over the maze any day. Experience was ranging from 50 to 200 a battle, and exp chains were very common (and long lasting). There is a lot more to pull there, and a lot less to be afraid of (depending on where you are). Battles were over before i got my sneak attack back (even against ITs). At one point there were three groups camped out near the outpost, and we still didn't have trouble getting mobs. And the bonus is, you're getting items for the sub-job quest at the same time.

Kolshushu on Sylph was just in Windurst control, I logged on last Sunday and noticed we owned the entire continent. It wasn't 1 game day (r/l hour) later and the beastman were already dominant, very sad. Now we are in second, and Kolshushu is beastman stomping grounds. It is really sad, because the place is good for partying, but EVERYONE and their kid brother is in valkurm, which means to many people which makes it is hard as hell to get a party over there unless you are a whm, and thus there is no one left in the Kolshushu region. This is its own problem, since with no one there, no one wants to group there, since no one wants to group, no one wants to be there. It is a viscious circle of logic. If you can get a decent group together for this region you can really clean up, getting the group is the hard part.

BTW, it doesn't sound like it gets better anytime soon, after valkurm you got qufim, and then khazam and a whole lot of other zones no one seems to know exist.

Yup, it's sad that most people only know the Bubu-Peninsula as a neccesary evil on the way from Mhaura to Windurst ;-;

Hahaha, this makes me feel kinda bad now.. I used to think of the peninsula as "the place where I just run as fast as my mithra *** can carry me without stopping for anything" when I was traveling to and from Mhaura.

At least on Asura, more and more people are raising in Bubu Penninsula. I've seen as many as four parties around the outpost and three outside Mhaura at one time. I personally prefer Bubu when I solo.

Also, for those that like the Maze, the back door comes out in Bubu. While I don't believe there are Maze Makers in that area, I know there are Carnivorous Crawlers. Plus, it gives you an area to zone in an emergency which I have never seen camped.

I was playing last night in a full pt, we had a lvl 13 thf/war, lvl 11 rdm, lvl 11 mnk, and 3 whm/blm all around lvl 10. One of the mages convinced the party we should try for the maze makers for good xp (we had been hunting dhalmels in tahrongi), so we head over there, zone in and around the first corner is an IT gob tinkerer, so everyone says think we can take it, we decided to give it a try. Needless to say it was pretty pathetic, I don't think anyone had a hit over 5 or 6 dmg, the gob resisted all spells, and soon the mages are yelling RUN, RUN. We took off to zone as quickly as possible and that was my first and only time in the maze so far. lol

Bubu was actually crowded last night on Asura with lots of competition for mighty rarabs and bull dhamels. At one point there was 75 people in zone, unheard of a couple of weeks ago. I think more people are trying for the subjob quest items in Bubu now.

On a related note:

* Has anyone gone deeper into the Maze of Shakrami - where the Maze Scorpions and nastier mobs are? What Levels are ideal for hunting those?

I've heard Maze Scorpions are Level 30+ Monsters, and you often
see these "system messages" saying "(XYZ) casts Ice Spikes" etc. I forgot the names, but they sounded like pretty nasty creatures (I think it was coming from the floor below ours).
