On Alexander, Ojin is probably one of the most well known players around, especially to Bastokers and Sandorians. Basically, he's a WHM in his 50s that spends much of his time in the Dunes raising anyone who needs his help, killing bogies that may be chasing some poor group, and helping people find magicked skulls. He's built a strong reputation as Alexander's kindest and most helpful player.

Do any other servers have players like Ojin?

If Phoenix has one, I haven't heard of him.

Doesn't sound like to much fun, so I won't be signing up for that job.

There was a 25 WHM in Quifim the other day shouting that he was selling raises for 250 gil. Why bother. 250 per, even though quifim at night can require may raises, can not net a very good return, per time spent.

There's an Ojin in training on Ifrit. He's a bit rough around the edges, and sometimes he's outright offensive, but you have to admire a guy who wants to make it his business to make sure no one else dies. Just take what he says with a grain of salt, and don't get uppity with him, and he'll make sure you're taken care of.

He's not high level yet, but he's my roommate, and I know he'll get around to it soon.

The name's Somoro.

I do similar things when I don't have time for any real partying or questing..... Of coarse I'm pretty low level ATM... but I usually Protect and Cure whoever needs it..... I aways make sure someone that I am passing by doen't need any help with anything.... And I'm having SUCH issues getting SubJob Items Whe I get to High level I plan to go to those zones Just to help them get it..... (5 days in Gusgan for Skull.. Feh)

Plus you gain respect.. and you increase your Skills <^^>

and good Karma

A member of my LS isn't quite that generous, but he'll do anything for the members in our LS. He's a level 30 pal, 30 war that spends his time helping our guys in the dunes, with quests, and anything else at all. This may not seem like a whole lot, but with my LS gaining members each day, that's a sizable donation of time and energy. Mad props to Donnalbane on Odin!

I'm not high enough level to be that guy, but I do help out whenever I can - mostly for kicks. :) I've taken quite a few newbies under my wing - enough that they're almost all higher level than I am, now!

Everytime I help someone out and they threaten to repay me, I make sure to tell 'em they owe whatever time and gil I've given them to the next newbie they run across when they're my level. Pay it forward, as they say. ;)

And for those who don't help others in need, here's my karma story: I went off to get my Palb Chest Key for Khazam, last night. Got there, asked for directions, and a 45 DRK and 60 DRK led me to the appropriate Quadavs - killing all of them for me, on the way. :) About 10 kills, and we got 2 keys. Thanks a ton to Kane and his friend whose name I can't spell, on Fenrir! Half an hour later, my PLD bud Ruvardal offers to break out his 30 WAR and take me to Giddeus. After getting lost a few times, we find the room. 5 kills, Giddeus Key. :) Total time spent (including travel time), 2 hours. Khazam, I'm coming! Yeah, I cashed in all my saved up karma, last night, but it was worth it!

Honestly, once my lvl is high enough this is what I would enjoy doing. I am probably one of very few that am not looking foward to PvP very much, well not at least if it's the entire game all and out kill or be killed type of PvP (can't stand peeps camping at spawn points, damn star wars galaxies). I have a very generous nature and would love to be the go to gal to help fellow players out in a bind. I'm not a very high lvl now, been playing since american release but have been taking my time with it only lvl 23, but once I hit 50, 60 I think I'll run around helping other players especially those classified as n00bs. Just cause you're new to a game dosn't mean you should be treated poorly by fellow players. It really makes me feel good to hear of another player doing this.

Ojin owns ~

He probably has raised at least 4 different jobs I've levelled up in Valkrum ~

Those of you on Alexandra ... asking him for a raise ~

Be patient .. He takes awhile to answer, and he usually have rounds of raises to do ~

/Cheer Ojin ~

Don't know about others but, as a WHM, when my anon is off I'm usually there to help out (waiting for group/quest to resolve etc..) with raises and whatever i can help with.

Don't take my word for this but, a white/red above the 'raise' level with anon off is probably more than willing to help you out!

As for high levels helping 'lowbies' in quests i can't wait to get there, just gives me an opportunity to get back at the orcs/quads/yags etc that bullied me when i was low-lvl ;)

Ojin is just the nicest person!!

I don't know if this fellow is as well known as your Ojin is, but ... Novage on the Seraph Server. He isn't a white mage, but he's still kick-***.

He's constantly helping people out, those in his LS and those not in his LS. Everytime I'm in a group with him, everyone we run pass seems to know him. Even if it's just by answering questions, I've never seen him lose his temper or get impatient. He once waited an hour for the kill-the-dragon quest for a lagging party member to arrive, more importantly, he kept the rest of the group from spazzing out.

My husband and I subscribe to the Pay It Forward method - we were helped a lot by Novage and some others (Spyder!), and so we help out anyone we see who needs help. And tell them to pass it on. :)

Another story for those who yell at noobs:

A level 1 character is asking for some money for some armor. Instead of yelling at her, calling her a noob, or ignoring her, my friend (on a whim) goes and buys her what she needs (and he's a RDM, so he's got very little cash, I remember once at level 20 something he had 4 gil...). She is very thankful. No more than 20 minutes later, a level 50 character comes walking up and says:

"That was my little sister you helped out. I really appreciate that, so... this is for you."

And gives him a suit of Steam Scale Mail.

I started helping new players after that.

I regularly take breaks from the leveling grind to help newbies out. I am a firm believer in the Pay it Forward technique, and believe me, I have a lot of paying it forward to do. Immediately after Christmas, I spent a couple of hours helping out a couple of newbs, showing them the ropes, and explaining how everything worked to them.

Once I get in the high levels, I'll be one of those Ojins.

I don't know about a specific character like Ojin on our server, but I've been helped plenty of times by higher level players, both american and japanese. I'm not a really high level yet (33) but I try to help out when I can. Best I've been able to do so far is spend a few hours at the dunes/gusgen helping lower level characters get their subjob items. I still remember duka who raised me like 3 times in those stupid mines and then escorted 3 of us around to get our skulls :p.
