Str or attack?Follow

#1 Jan 21 2004 at 4:51 PM Rating: Decent
I've been wondering this for some time now, and no one has been able to give me a solid answer. What has a bigger impact on melee damage, strength or attack? Just want to know if something like a tiger stole that adds to attack or a spike necklace that adds to strength is better at raising attack damage.

i have heard that 2 STR = 1 attack.. so if that is true then attack +2 would be better than a STR +2 item

this may not be true, though i have heard quite a few people say it

anyone know for sure?

Str is what determines a slight bonus to your attack rating. I currently sit at about 29 str +6 at lvl 21/10 monk/war with gear. Atk is figured based on lvl, but it is true that str is a bonus to atk, and from what I have seen, at least at this lvl, 2 str = 1 atk. It might not be too nuts though to assume that as you progress, more atk is given for str, which is why items that are + to stats sell for ungodly amounts... Leaping Boots come to mind... over something that is +2 atk... like beetle earrings.

But yeah, str is like a bonus to atk, becasue after gear, and meat mithkabobs, my attk climbs to about 120 buffed... which is far more than half my str lvl... which would be around 15.

Str = Max damage limit.
Atk = How close to that limit each attack is.

ye 2strenght = 1 attakcs

BUT dont take it wrong

until u know how the DMG FORMULE really is this fact dont say u anything ... because DMG fromula could be primarly calculated on STR and than tha attack number etc etc

it need more ivestigation and time for make this investigation take gear with streght and than take it out ... kill mobs write it in colums than aproximately DMG u deal and than made it with ATTACK equipment and finally combine it

so as i m saying until anybody know how EXACTLY tha DMG FORMULE is and is DMG calculating the fact that 2STR = 1 attack in info sheet doesnt mean anything :( :) because if STR is main factor of dmg formule that lower attack rating mean nothing ... when i will have time i m going to tak a look on this thing as i m going to take a look on DEX+ and AGI+ for thf but if anybody could help it will be very much appreciated :)

PS: personally i thin STR -> DMG of weapon -> ATTACK rating are the priorities of DMG dealing calculator but absolutelly dont know exactly :) and its only my oppinion as the STR is the main attribut so i think maybe some
DMG DEALING CALC = (STR + DMG of weapon) * (your attack - mob defense) or other type and until i know it exactly i cant say anything which thing is better sio if anybody could help with that investigation i will be very glad :)

the easist way of trying one of these investigation is taking some wepon with 0 CAP skill or very low and master it on the same type of mob and then see how much dmg is going up -> this we will see how much the ATTACK rating is helping

then we can take some mastered weapon and try how much its doing with +STR and how much without that +STR things (some +STR food could be for this purpose the bestest)

and then compare results :)

Alright, so I leveled my character a bit, and there is a direct correlation between weapon skill, str, and attack.
To answer the first question of what has a bigger impact on melee dmg, str or attk, your attack rating is what you do for melee dmg, so the higher your attack, the stronger you hit for.

Weapon Skill determines your attack rating, and with every 2 str you add 1 to attack. So, if you have 50 str and your weapon skill is 100, your attack *should* be at 125. Adding in meal effects... 100 Weapon Skill, 50 +5 str, and + 22.9% attack from a Meat Mithkabob = 156 Attk.

Attack is figured based on the following really interesting formula... as far as I can tell at least..

(Weapon Skill + .5 * str) *(1 + %attack bonus) = Attack

Whoever said algebra is completly useless?... wait, I know..
