Need some sound Advice... (Help...)Follow

Allright guys -

Having a discussion with my guild about this - and after not being able to decide, I figured I would come and post it here. I currently am a level 37/18 DRG/THF - and for some reason last night and today I felt like becoming a Paladin. I went and did the quest, and then me and my guild began discussing... Is this worth it? Most of them have said no, I cant decide.

I like being good at something in this game, and all I ever see on the boards is how Dragoon isnt good at this level or l acking abilities, etc. I also like being useful in groups.

But the thing is this would obviously be a huge step back, and I would have to relevel these as fast as possible. I guess ultimatley - from those who have played these classes or grouped with them, what would your reccomendation be?

I can't give you advice as someone who's played those classes, but I can give you something to think about.

You say you like being useful in groups, but ultimately I think it comes down to what you want to do. The beautiful thing about this game is that you -can- change your job whenever you want. I think that if you want to become Paladin, then you should try it out. If you don't like it, you can always go back to being a Dragoon.

I think if a person likes their job, and knows what they're doing, they will be useful in a group regardless of what abilities they have. I've had a good group that had a paladin in it, but I've also been in a great group with a dragoon. Ultimately, the decision is yours to make, so try what you want to try and don't let people put you down because of something you want to do. :)

Edit for brainless spelling mistakes :)

Maybe part of the issue right now is I lead a rather good Linkshell on Ifrit, and one of my Co-Leaders is a level 50 Dragoon/Thief - so maybe I feel as if I'm just a lesser clone of him.

One thing maybe I'll try - not that it would be fantastic, but FUN. is DRG/DRK - I love last resort and soul eater. And maybe it would just be fun to mess around with, I generally am in a LS group for leveling every night anyways, so not like there gonna reject me... I hope =O

If you think it would be fun, then go for it. ^^ That's the point of a game, isn't it?

Good luck. :)

First off, if your not going to sub WAR then PAL is worthless.
Palidans main attribute is being able to take a lot of damage but not dish it out. If you can not keep aggro whats the point of being able to take damage. As far as it goes, i love my PAL.
I am not that high lvl yet, but i hear that when you get up there a PAL is almost like a WHM as far as well balanced necessity goes. As it is, ever since i changed to PAL the longest i have had to wait for a group is like 5 minutes or less.

First of all, don't listen to anyone that says any main class is worthless. No class is 'worthless'. Anyway, like you said, you'll be playing with a set group of people most nights, so look at what they are most likely to need/want. If they already have a paladin set up to use on most occasions, that might not be the road to take. But hey, it only takes a few hours to get to lvl 15 or so, and by that time you'll probably have a better idea of whether or not it's for you.

Do what you think will be fun for you. If you like pulling and tanking, go ahead and dabble a little with a Paladin. If you like giving the damage more, than you may want to try something else. Don't go for what others want you to be, go for what YOU want to be.

Don't worry about others in your party being the same class or level as you. As long as you're having fun playing that class, then that's all that matters. You'll be helpful no matter what class you are.
