My first GM experienceFollow

#1 Jan 18 2004 at 8:07 PM Rating: Decent
Well I was cursing at some other party because they were in our way when we were fighting in Kazham, and they were acting kinda childish like "don't harass us" and whatnot.

Anyway, about 5 minutes later I got warped to town and was like "wtf just happened", then 2 seconds after that I got warped to a place called Mordion Gaol which was just a big empty room with a GM in the middle.

He just explained that there was a warning on my account for inapropriate language and whatnot, and said that calling them noobs would've been acceptable ^^

Anyway I got some screens at http://www.angelfire.com/la/spookykid/pics/ffxi.html i don't know if its against the rules of this forum to post my site or whatever, so let me know.

I actually thought this was a really neat experience to be in the jail type setting, and suggest that everyone should experience it at least once. Its one of the funnest things that has happened to me in the game so far.

Thats pretty funny. I would really like to see the picture, but it seems the URL is not working for me.

How big was the room? Did it have any deccoration in it? Did the GM look any different from a normal character?

Lol that looks cool.

Oh, and he put a , without a space so he messed up the link. Copy, and paste it without the , and it works.

So let me get this straight...

You start verbally abusing other players, and and they were being "childish" when they asked you to stop?

And the GM warns you and it's "funny"?

Ok then, now taking bets on how much longer it is till this guy gets his account suspended.

I thought of it first:

A little while ago while I was lvling in Quifim, my PT had to call a GM on another PT by us that claimed we took their camp and that we should move b/c we will ruin the XP from Pugils (which there are plenty of mind you for only 2 PT's). We said wtf? and told them that we could share the spot. They refused to share the alley (which was quite sapcious enough for 2 PT's so our AoE's wouldn't mix) and started behaving somewhat childish, and more rude. They would use some emote motions that could seem derogatory in teh context and would just /sit where our mob was when we were fighting it. They would continue being rude and insisted that we were the jackass's for stealing their spawn. So we called a GM and he reviewed the logs and stuff and showed up. Man, what an experience. He showed up and I swear, there was no noise, the mobs didn't move and no one ran by. It was odd. The GM had the wavey air effect on him, like the fires in the game do. He was [GM]Caedmon too, and wsa very professional about things.

My whole party died right before he got there by the pugil we were fighting, but I used my 2hr so I released to HP and ran back and when I got back the GM was there, and I immediately kneeled. One of the guys that gave us **** logged as soon as he saw the GM and the rest of the guys were kinda talking back to teh GM, really pushing their limits. He gave them a warning, but I expected him to put them all in GM Jail for a little while b/c they were talking back. Too bad he didn't, they were all real ********. Anyway, since my PT was all dead and I was the only one alive, they wanted me to ask him for a raise (no doubt they can do it), but I wasn't gonna ask, heck, i was afriad to even Check him to see the Gm's equip. But I did a few seconds before he left and his equip is all crazy stuff. It all said lvl 1 GM, GM Only. Didn't catch much else, but every slot in his equip was full, but i ddin't have much time to check out all of it.

man GM's on FFXI are ruthless

swearing gets you a trip to the jail room?
when i played EQ we had a room kinda like that but it was all white(the white room lol) you had to REALLY do something bad to go there like threaten to kill someone or exploit the game ALOT.
a swearing offence just got a tell like this "please refrane from that type of language...this is a warning"

No, harrassing other players and PTs gets you a trip to the jail room. Be a jerk, go to jail. Works for me.

Anyway, after you got out of jail, were you placed right back where you were before they ported you? Or a nearby town or homepoint or something?

I'll cherish the day that a GM mistakenly (whether through false evidence or bravado) tries to "regulate" on me. I'd summon Avermouth: God of Verbal Torrents. He'd use his Mental Break ability, and the fight would end with the GM agreeing with me. Maybe he'd even give me a stack of Mithkabobs as recompense for troubling me. Poor GM. :-D

I didn't say it was "funny" i said it was a fun experience. I wasn't complaining that a GM actually gave me a warning, I was expressing how unique the experience was. I enjoyed the jail environment and thought it was a really nice touch to the game.

I wasn't constantly abusing them i just called them a ****** and told them to stop blocking a doorway because it almost got me killed a few times while i was oulling mobs to my party.

It wasn't really abuse, I could've been calling them "noobs" instead of ******* and i wouldn't have gotten a warning at all. its just because they were little kids whining about name calling when it really wasn't a big deal.

Are you bound to one spot, or can you run around?
That would be funny.

GM: I've reviewed the logs and.. hey quit it.
GM: Please stop.
GM: Stop. Now.
GM casts Bind on Snarg
Snarg is bound
GM: @&*!@ing Tarus

GM's ARE A JOKE !

I have been harrassed so many times by retarded and ignorant players that I can't even begin to name them. The "user agreement" says blah blah blah don't do anything that disrupts the playing experience of others. So what happens when you are harrassed?

Example: Some idiot was chaining gobs nonstop in Kahzam and was getting peeps killed left and right. So I yelled and told him to stop or go back to his homepoint because we were tired of saving his azz and he was getting people killed. He immediately started the profanity and all that so I replied that we weren't here to save his butt non-stop and that he was disrupting play.

Of course he didnt stop sending me tells so I report him to a GM. GM comes on and says well why dont u blacklist him? BLACKLIST him? That is the GM's answer to every complaint that someone turns in. "Do you know how to use blacklist?" NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I can't figure it out......I'm not smart enough....please. How is blacklisting an idiot going to stop him from shouting profanties for everyone to see and stop him from training in gobs to kill 20 people? FFXI blows wind when its comes to enforcing rules and etiquette. It's just like any game...there afraid to do anything to someone's acct. GM said well unless hes directly harrassing you there isnt much I can do...I said ? HELLOOOOOOO? He IS directly harrassing me thats the whole point of the is conversation. OH well, useless GM's just like any other game I guess.....He asked me if he could do anything else for me...I said not unless you are gonna do what your supposed to do for my money every month and that this would be the last time i wasted my time with a GM.

the GMs job is to really make sure ******** dont uin the game for the rest of us. Certain GMs do certain things, like some sort out technical issues, and some go in the game and take care of harrassment and stuff. I think some GMs dont take care of harrassment normally and when they have to, they half-*** do it. Everyone I know that raninto a GM on Odin serverhave had either [GM]Caedmon or [GM]Katsuhito, both of which are senior GMs. I havn't heard any bad stories about them, they seem to get the job done everytime. If Caedmon took care of the guy training a bunch of stuff, he woulda been in GM Jail and returned to town w/ a warning. After that, he woulda suspended his account for a few hours.

I also had a bad exerience with that GM as well, he's a complete and utter jackass. Seems every time I've tried to call a GM I've gotten him. Just bad luck I suppose. Wish they would actually do something about this though. I'm sick of people harassing me and just getting off with me having to blacklist them.... :(

I suggest finding out who his superior is and taking a complaint about the service directly to that person.

How do you become a GM anyways? Was there job applications or were people chosen within Squenix like Mods on POL mb?

My first experience with a GM was a bad one, one that probably ruined GMs in my eyes forever. I'm still mad about it.

Chapter One: The Good Samaritan

There I was, doing the Zi'tah supply run. The method I use for supply runs is to chocobo out there, link to HP then sneak my way back to the nearest crag or outpost I've allready gotten teleport from. Then head back home, get supplies, cast warp then use my newly unlocked teleport to get back home! Great plan!..
-Only this time I forgot my sneak oils and prism powder and the two agressive enemies out here are (duh) Goblins and Bats. I ask around, see who is in the area and equipped a Windurst LS to ask the folk there for a possible escort. Nadas. Do a search. Nadas. Check friend list. Nadas. Oh well! Looks like this Taru is in trouble. I try to sneak home, and don't get very far before getting squished. Wah! Fine, return to Homepoint. *SPLAT*
Huh? WHat??! Turns out there was a goblin CAMPING MY SPAWN POINT. That's right, hanging out right at the outpost waiting to kill people and kill me he did.
Okay that had to be a fluke.. maybe I can wait for him to walk off then spawn and run around the building to hide.. (wait wait wait)
Aha! He's gone! (respawn) *SPLAT*
Apparently the goblin was still locked onto me or maybe god didn't like me or whatever as the Goblin wasn't even on screen and got to kill me again.. then wandered up to camp my 'spawn' point proper.
[this is how leaping lizzy feels! leave her alone!]
Fine.. ask the LS for anyone willing to help in any way. I'm not going to rehash all the responses, but it basically came down to: They didn't care. or They didn't want to help.
At this point I just want to log out have supper and do something else. But you can't log out when you're dead. Finally, this total stranger named Ellisd came on and suggested "Hey, why don't you call a GM?" I responded that I can't while dead. so Ellisd called a GM for me.
A complete stranger helps me, when folk I've PTd with since day one refused to. Wow. Anyway.. on to Chapter Two:

Chapter Two: The stupid-head GM

Apparently Ellisd didn't have much luck communicating with the GM, not that there was no GM... the issue was more of a "This GM is pretty dumb" sort of thing. The GM finally contacts me and immediately scolds me for not placing the GM call myself. I explained to the GM Avalgida that I can't log out, everytime I reset to Homepoint I IMMEDIATELY die. Please help
The GM refuses to help. At all. Stating that she cannot interfere with gameplay. I respond that my gameplay is allready interfered with, that I am unable to move, logout, or reset to homepoint. The GM tells me to crash my computer if I want to log out.
Yes, the GM tells me to crash my computer.
Just to make this perfectly clear, the GM tells me to CRASH my computer. Telling me various methods. Alt+Tab, Windows Key, yanking the power.. etc etc (Btw, ALT TAB and Windows key do no crash my FFXI, they do nothing. odd..) The GM leaves.

So that's my experience with the GM. The story goes on quite a bit, and eventually (FOUR AND A HALF HOURS LATER) I did get an escort to zone. Lost whole bunches of EXP that day.
