I'm curious if any PC players plan on buying the PS2 version of FFXI. Or if you have friends who don't have the game yet and plan on getting it for the PS2. I'm trying to figure out how much of a surge of new players and thus new users of this site we will get come March.

Absolutely have no intention of buying the PS2 version. What's the point really? If you hook up a PS2 controller to your PC...how different would that be from the PS2 version?

Although I think there still will be a tremendous surge when the PS2 version comes out. 3 reasons for my thinking.

1.)Many people are using family computers...which means they have to share....sharing means less time to play...sharing is bad.

2.)Many people have antiquated computer systems that are unable to support the game.

and a distant 3.)A few people don't have a computer. (Time to leave the stone age.)

If I had a PS2, perhaps... But alas, I do not, so no PS2 version for me!

My computer runs fine anyway...

I might get it just to 3-box a thief for treasure hunter or something. But that won't really mean more traffic.
None of my friends have a PS2 that don't have a PC.

Allakhazam brings up a good question here though. How appealing is an MMORPG to the console gamer? It wont have the uber graphics or constant barrage of FMV that they're used to nowadays. But with the recent retro gaming phase will they be mroe accepting of a little bit less graphics and more gameplay? It will be interesting to see how the game is accepted indeed.

I am actually thinking about getting this game. I am playing EQOA on PS2, and its getting kinda boring. I was just curious what kind of systems you guys have that are running FFXI on PC? I might end up getting it for PC instead of PS2, not sure yet.

My friend and I both have it for the PC. (He was going to wait but I have no patience so i bought the PC version for him) But we both intend on getting it for the PS2 also. (The couch is Waaaaay more comfortable than the chair I have in front of the computer)

Get a more comfortable chair then? I cant see how having a keyboard on your lap will be comfortable as your throw it down and pick it back up to chat.

you've never tried it then huh? it's not bad at all. Besides the sound system hooked to my TV beats tha hell outta the two rinky dink speakers on my PC. Not to mention a more comfortable chair costs more than the PC version of the game, a GFX card, and the PS2 version combined.

I will stick with the PC version for the now. I do want the HD for my PS2, but it's no rush. I have 2 step-sons who could probably play, but they aren't doing to well in school right now, so no FFXI for them. Hehehe!! I'm used to the PC version now anyway, I see no real reason to get the PS2 version since the resolution won't be as good and having to buy a keyboard for the PS2 and type with it on my lap isn't appealing.

also depending on the person you'll need a cheap usb keybord and mouse and additional $10-20.
Edit:and also a network adapter.
