Auto Targeting helpFollow

#1 Jan 15 2004 at 1:11 PM Rating: Decent

I heard that F8 will choose the closest critter in battle, however mine isn't set up (just don't choose anything). Where does one go to configure this? I went into config 2 on the main menu and did't see the option for changing or enabling F1 thru F12 keys.

Or just maybe doing something wrong....te te te

Thanks -Kurru

That F-8 is a default setting.... maybe you wern't close enough or not facing the Mob? dunno

I believe the true Auto-Target is waht Locks you to the Enemy during Battle.

If you're using compact keyboard set up then F-8 is the default for closest enemy target. (not sure if its the same for full) But in config, misc 2, there should be buttons along the bottom that say "commands" "Movement" and something else, clicking on commands or movement is where you would need to go to change any keys.

Just to let you know... I use default full keyboard settings, and F1-F6 is party, F7 is you, F8 is nearest NPC, and F9 is nearest PC.

If you haven't intentionally reconfigured any of the keyboard settings, then F8 will target (not lock onto) the closest monster or NPC that is visible to you.

Note that if you are already "locked on" to another target, then F8 won't do anything.

Pressing F8 will target the closest NPC that is in front of you. It will lock onto the closest sign, shop keeper, wyvern, enemy, and even mining point that you are facing.

You can try this little macro that someone suggested in another post:

/target <bt>

The <bt> tag is battle target, whatever your party is fighting. I have not tried this myself, but supposedly it works well. (I am not sure how it pick an enemy if your party is fighting more than one at once for example.)

Another macro idea that I have come up with, but have never tried is this little ditty...

/assist <stpc>

This should call up a sub target allowing you to use the function key to pick a party member to assist. If it works correctly, it will target what he/she is fighting. I have not had the chance to test this out yet, so I will not guarantee its success.

Just a few helpful suggestions.

Septy yes <bt> works as you say.

In fact I used to use an assist macro set up like:

/party Assisting <t>
/assist <t>
/wait 1
/attack <t>

This worked but I'd have to remember to target the player attacking the right creature. On some occasions where there have been multiple, non agro, spawns right by us I would target a player who was targetting another creature and not the one we were fighting. This caused me to attack the wrong creature. Oh and in at least one case this player was the puller but the tank decided to take on something else. To cut a long story short we took a few casualites.

So I no longer use Assit. Instead I have simple attack macro:

/party Attacking <bt>
/wait 1
/attack <bt>

<bt> or Battle Target, as people call it, is the creature with a red name, or one that has engaged you or your party.

Now just to be safe I wait until the mob goes red and then hit the macro. Regadless of who pulled what or initiated the attack I'll not attack the mob the party is "actually" fighting.

This is also a good way to target a creature that agro's on you without having to turn and face the mob.

I put the "/wait 1" in between becuase I have had occasions where the macro gets confused.

IMHO <bt> makes the need for /assist almost redundant. I too do not know what <bt> will do when there is more than one red target. At that time you need to use /assist <t> to pick the right one.

Peace.
