I heard it was possible....even seen screenshots of a wedding. But can anyone confirm that it's possible to marry someone else in FFXI? If so, how?

Ummmmmmm, I hope I am not the only one that thinks this is a bit too creepy for my tastes. Really, seriously people. I am not kidding.

Can I get that "Mecernary can of Mace +1" now?

I've seen several marriages in MMO games. Someone I believe got married in EQ and AC2 awhile back. It happens and usually they are hardcore fanatics who've been playing together for a few years. So a marriage in FFXI wouldn't surprise me.

How is it creepy? I was married in SWG, no big deal. It just guarantees you someone to talk to or play with when there's nothing else to do.

An old co-worker used to play AC1 24/7 except at work (not a problem, happens to us all), he met his future wife in the game and eventually moved in together in RL. Months and months later the wife was cheating on him with someone else in game and they got a divorce, she took his computer and everything....(Later he got fired for sexual harrassment, haha)

Christ people, I think we should leave this thread alone. what ya say?

Who would WANT to marry a Galka? O_o

I think it's a cute idea as long as it's roleplaying. I for one would like to know who I'm marrying.

I dunno, i don't think I could do the whole marriage thing. Playing FFXI is already a lot of commitment for me, haha. Not only that, people still are stuck on the idea it seems that all Mithra are played by women. I didn't mind until people constantly started referring to me as "she" and "her" in parties. I'd hate to get married to someone who thought the whole time I was female TT

Heh, my LS had a nice Crying Game moment. Everyone is very buddybuddy on the ls, making jabs at each other. When my RL friend playing a mithra said he was gonna take a shower while waiting for a group to form, another player said thay'd join him. I very slowly explained that Merryl was a guy, then we teased him about his error for the rest of the day.

We Elvaan have long enough necks, I think we'd be close enough. o_O

Little too far for me, may be put a name on the friendlist, but that is about it. I don't think marry someone will give you any kind of bonus in the game, is there?

How is it creepy? I can look at that in 2 ways:

A) Perhaps maybe I miss some of the social nuiances of this game.

B) Perhaps I prefer to marry someone in real life that I actually know/love and avoid the "Internet love fest" thing.

You people are blowing this one way out of proportion.

First and foremost, its a game. And you're not playing you, you're playing your character. So why couldnt your character get married? Of course it wouldn't be FOR REAL (duh!) it could be with a friend or something, for fun. And it adds something for you to play out. I mean cmon, people who find this creepy or weird obviously look at the game from too much of a real life perspective. Once again, its a game. Its not real.

It might be worth it if you got bonuses to stats or something. Like there are pieces of equipment that say "+1 to VIT (or some stat) when in an area controlled by your country / in an area not controlled by your country." Maybe if it was like "+5 to All stats for staying married to the ball and chain for so long while in the same party (^_^)" it could be beneficial. Or if you could gain some kind of gil by staying married (from your country) that might be of some interest. Other than that, I don't find it too.. appealing or necessary.

My LS is mostly RL friends, and one plays a mithra, and one plays a fem elvaan. In game, my character adn his character (Elvaan) are engaged. Not a big deal, we just do it to have fun. Plus its fun to sexually harrass (/em slaps <t>'s ***) the characters if you know that they're guys. Hell, my friend who plays the Elvaan is trying to become a virtual ***** and give out "hand" "jobs" (words are auto-translatable) for gil, hasn't really panned out yet.

Well in escence, your chracter tends to be an extension of your self. Unless your one of the very few people who actually do "Role Play", in this Role Playing Game. But i think what scares most people, and me, is that someone would be so devoted to the game life that they would want to Marry a game Character. What kindof sick expectations would you have form such a union. Would you get mad if they partied with someone other than you? Marriage is a pretty involved thing, a fantasy marriage like this in a game just wouldn't work in my opinion.

I'm personally not "married" in-game, nor do I know anyone who is, but seriously, it's not a big deal, it's a game.

Do you feel like a girl when playing FFX-2? It's just your character. Granted, there is more of YOU in your character in this game then in a one player RPG, but it's still only a character.

I could see people saying it's "sick" or "creepy" if people got too attached for whatever reason (the "it's just a game" argument goes both ways, in this instance).

However, I'm under the impression that most people doing this are only doing it for fun, with friends they've made in-game.

That constatly happens to me, but it's because I'm a female playing male characters. I have 2 male hume, and 1 male Elvaan. I always found it funny, when I would adventure with a TaruTaru friend of mine. (Who was male IRL) and there would be hugging and slightly racy jokes between him and my male Elvaan, of course he knew I was female, but nobody else did. Hee ^-^
