I have been playing now for a few weeks and I have to say I am addicted. I am up to lvl 13, the reason so low was that I had to go to colorado for a week for snowboarding, but I was going through with draws when I was there. But now that I am back and playing FFXI again I realized how much I love this game. I love partying and being the tank. It seems I have not been in a bad party yet. With me voking and working well with others, people always ask me again to party with them. There are still a bunch of questions I have like is a war/blm a good combo, or is there better ones.
I would like it if people would help me out in this area because lvl 18 is not far away and I want to find out what people think the best sub jobs are with a warrior.
Again I have to say this game is awesome. I dont know why people would not like it. I guess they expected the best mmorpg ever. But I look towards the future and think that now after their first one, what will the next one be like. :)

If you're looking for best combo for tank, most people go with WAR/MNK for the big HP boost. I'm not sure if the evasion/dodge bonus with THF would make it worth it, but that's also a good option until you hit advanced jobs.
WAR/BLM is usually not a good idea because you won't get much MP with BLM subbed to make it worthwhile.
However, the beauty of the game is its limitless possibilities. Be what you want to be and don't let people tell you otherwise.

*sigh* What is it with people looking down on "standard" jobs? "Advanced" jobs aren't better, they're just new jobs that you can't get till lvl 30.

Advanced Jobs are generally much more specialized than the starting jobs, so there's more room for mixing and matching. The only nuker of base jobs is BLM, but once you've got advanced jobs, there's 4 or 5. Warriors are a blend of DEF and STR. So what happens if you'd rather your DEF go to your ATK? Dark Knight to the rescue! What if you want your ATK to become DEF? Paladin, hear my call! Want to do more than just cure? Be a Bard! See the world! People have no problems with basic classes, it's just that partys can be much better balanced if there are people who have one solitary job, rather than, say, a WAR that's tanking and sub-nuking at the same time.
