I'm seeing a weird problem. The following thread, right now, has 50 posts on it. But if you click on page 2, you get a weird blank list page.

http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.htmlforum=10&mid=1087714109520262423&num=50

Don't know if you'll see it in time before someone replies...

I'm curious, how many scholar+'s actually rate posts up compared to how many rate them down? I have spent a week trying to be helpful over on the tradeskill forum, posting links and such when people ask and I never got a single rate up, I'm trying to get scholar so I can help moderate because I don't have much else to do at work.

Then I made a post today, was just trying to be helpful, and I check back 10 minutes later and I've been rated down to 2.32, drawing my karma down to 2.95, at this rate I'm pretty sure I'll never get above 3 and get scholar.

I paid for a year's membership for the exclusive purpose of getting karma and trying to post helpful posts, getting rated up, and helping to monitor the forums to an extent, but instead I find myself rated down randomly and it just seems to snowball.

Is there something I'm missing? Do any of the scholars rate up helpful posts, or do they just rate down things they don't like and rate up other scholars? I see scholars making snippy sarcastic, very mean responses to people and not suffering any penalties, and when someone works hard like me to help the forums, I get rated down so that I won't get scholar.

Well this will probably be rated down as well, great talking to you all :-(

To follow my post up, it seems like people are being rated up/down on completely ridiculous reasons. I'll see someone post something that is informative and inquisitive, has an idea that I've thought about before, and he asks for advice. Next thing I see, scholars are mocking him and rating him down. Do you guys have some sort of rate-history info, because that's just ridiculous. Scholars are rate-raping people that they get bored with or don't agree with, not based on the merit of the post, and rather than contributing to the post they mock the poster and rate him down. It's a really good way to encourage people to use this forum, rate them to hell with snide remarks...

I rate posts up and down. I try to follow the rules of:
-Well written and informative posts, rate up.
-Off topic and insulting posts, rate down.

And, unlike most people, I rate people up even if they disagree with me if they make a good point.

Welll...you posted this like 3 days ago and now you are a sage!! I'm jealous, I've been trying to get that last .02 karma so I can have a red name. :( It looks like you don't have to worry about low karma anymore!

The karma system here is a great thing for booting repeatedly offensive posters off the boards, but the system is abused by people who don't understand it.

.....I didn't see this question in this thread but I may have missed it. Anyway....
....I don't have a credit Card and I'm not a Paypal member. I take it a check is out of the question judging by the info about signing up for premium servous. Is Paypal all the options I have left? Cause getting a credit card is tough right after College.

I call foul on this Xdun guy. He's here three days ago whining about karma, and now he's a Guru? I don't really worry about karma, but this crap bugs me. Each new post of his by some miracle has a 5.00 rating, even when he doesn't say much. It's one thing to get a good rating when you say something positive and constructive which I've certainly seen from Xdun, but posts being 5.00 mere minutes after posting for not saying much at all? Come on.

It's not the karma system that's broken. It's people like Xdun and his sockpuppets that abuse it.

If some admin comes in and shoots me down, I'll gladly pony up an apology. At this point, I'm pretty confident in what I believe.

....having trouble using the Advanced Character Search feature.

I want to look for BST on my server, of any race, any rank, etc... but within my lvl range.

Are there none w/ a profile using this site or is there no wildcard function for searches?

Any fields left blank are essentially considered a wildcard; they aren't included in the search, so leaving out a name matches any name, and so on.

However, when I went to test this I did find a bug in the lookup. I should have it fixed shortly.

--edit--

It should display results now. Sorry for the inconvenience.

people bumping old threads for no reason pisses other people off. Perhaps they are trying to tell you not to do that?

you can look at the "your posts" section of your user profile and see if anythreads are different than your current base karma.

I've posted it in other threads, but I'll post again here in case anyone things the Forum FAQ sticky might answer questions as to why sometimes there's lots of ******** OT threads that pop up on this board.

This is nothing new. The forum runs in cycles. There just aren't enough questions being asked anymore because either:

A.) The people here have already asked them, and had them answered.

or

B.) They haven't reached a point yet where they have new questions to ask.

The community of this forum also tends to get bored quickly, and many of us work posters need something to do to pass the time.

Here lies the sh*t threads. They aren't really doing any harm, aside from the fact that some people don't want to read them. For the most part a lot of us older posters keep ourselves confined to our own little space; but we like to socialize with the masses from time to time, especially when they seem just about as bored as we are.

When CoP is released there will be a slew of new questions for people to ask. And the forum will return to it's informative state. But then the cycle will repeat. It happens, I hope you understand. It's not going to change.
