The man who started it all!

I put together a FAQ for the forum. I'll get Illia to link it up later (it's just under the EQ template right now):

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/Forum_FAQ.html

One thing I want to emphasize is the Karma system. If people start to use it, it should solve many of the complaints I see about anon posting. If you have received Scholar status of higher, you in effect become a limited forum admin. Please take advantage of this.

As you read through a thread, rate the best posts up and the worst posts down. Then when you get to the end, hit the rate posts button to enter your ratings. It only takes a couple people rating through a thread like that to move the dumb posts below the default viewing threshold and move the better posts up, which will eventually make those making the good posts able to rate as well.

Now just make sure you have your filter settings at "default" and not at "Never Filter". The default filter means that when you are on the main thread page, any thread where the lead is below 1.5 isn't even listed, and within a thread any post below that rating also disappears. If you choose to set your filter to "Never Filter", then I have to assume you want to see those types of posts.

We do moderate the forum as well, but only to get rid of the most outrageous posts. If people want to carry on a below the threshold flame war, then we won't interfere until it becomes indecent.

Here's a scenerio for you. Say someone just wants to be a complete idiot, and of course a few other choice words im not going to say, decides he doesnt like one post of yours because, he doesnt like your 'opinion' when the original post was a question of opinion. And then decides to go through and rate down every single post of yours he can find. What happens in those cases? Anything that can be done or a way to track it?

I bring this up because it happened to me and it lowered my karma quite a bit. Thankfully someone seen me talking about such a thing in that same thread and rated me back up. But other than that is there a way to restore someones 'good name' just because someone wanted to be like that?

How do I keep track of the Topics that I've posted in? I've heard of a way to see Recent Posts, but i can't find it anywhere.

Hey, would it be too much of a problem to get server specific boards? I know we could just start a thread for it, but that thread would get lost. Then we would have who knows how many threads on it.

Justa simple question, requesting a simple response.

Maybe they will throw server forums in with the speed update for the site, would be nice. I've noticed awhile ago my rating slowly dropped from around 3.03 to 3.00. It bounced between 3.00-3.01 for awhile now its down to 2.99-3.00. And it keeps dropping with about every 10 posts.

Hey-

I am kind of confused how you increase your rating??? Mine hasn't changed for a long time...

What are the benefits of subscribing??? Is it just to get an Avatar???

Hey Allakhazam admin! I've noticed on other fan sites, many have this option. You've done a nice job dividing things up in to general (world pass, missions, and trade skills), job, and race. But it would be very helpful to have a forum to meet other people (that play at the same time) from the same server! Anyone else agree?Smiley: boozing

Other people have to rate your posts if they are scholars or sages. So post nicely. For subscribing you get an avatar and the pop ups removed.

Can you look for people you know on this site?

Hey Allakhazam, oh mighty defender of justice. :)

Think we can get somethin implemented that to rate someone you hafta either post in the thread, and/or justify why you rated?

It annoys me that people just simply don't like the topic and rate down everyone in the post even when it isn't a flame-war post.

...why are my "clean and harmless" posts being rated down!? Just because some anon doesn't like the topic? Or cannot comprehend my satire, comments, opinions, etc !? Come on “defender of justice!” When things like this happen not renewing my membership looks like a better means of being recognized on this site. Please do something about rate camping!

What is the rating scores of the following categories?

Awful
Default
Decent
Good
Excellent

I ask because I've downrated people when thinking Good was better than their current post rating.

Your rating weight varies depending on what your current rate is at. For example, If I rate a 3.0 post excellent, it goes to 4.0, If I rate it awful, it goes to 2.0. A scholor on the other hand ahs a rating weight of about 0.8 I think. Two awful ratings from a scholor will knock one of my posts down to a 3.66

I think the post break down goes like this
Sub-Default 1.9 and below
Default 2.0
Decent 3.0
Good 4.0
Excellent 5.0

So generally, at scholor level, if a person has a rating of 3.8, a good rating should equil out. If they are higher than 4.4, a good rating may bring them down slightly

Hope that helps.

Actually, that's what I thought it was myself.

Someone had a 3.6 rated post. I rated it good and it dropped to a 3.4 I believe.

could have been someone else rated it in the same time span. It should have moved more than .20 unless someone else rated it at the same time.

you can only rate if you have a 3.01 or higher karma. It's to prevent people from making rate bots and spam rating people down.

Looks like you have not been rated. I try to make it a rule not to rate people until they are in their 40s or so, otherwise I inadvertantly bump them up to guru sometimes.
