So far, we've unlocked the following:

Day 3: You can change her jobs after this.

Day 6: You can change her weapons after this.

I gave my NPC a great sword just for kicks, and it's pretty funny watching her walk around with a giant black sword. I may change this to great katana or great axe just for kicks though. I may even give her an axe.

Confirmed info: Apparently fighting mobs higher level than her gives her more XP, no matter what your level is. My NPC hit LV31 two days leveling with my SAM after 4 days leveling with my NIN.

I imagine depending on what you fight, she levels up much quicker. This is great for people who have multiple high-level jobs. You could farm higher level mobs all day (say, LV50-60) and you would level her far more quickly.

Hey, just got back from day #4 with my NPC. Karyn, Female Hume. I have seen her use the following WSes: Fast Blade, Burning Blade, Red Lotus Blade and Flat Blade. I went out with a SAM friend and his NPC today, and he SCed with her. I had her set to Attacker so I told him to be WS ready. The SAM's NPC was head to toe Lizard gear. Not once did our NPCs SC, I don't even think I saw his use a WS. Eventually we pulled a link and his NPC got killed, I desummoned Karyn and zoned. Before, she was wearing Kempf legs and Great Gloves, the rest was the default Brass equip, now she appears to be wearing Baron's Gloves, the default Body gear, Brass Scale I think, Studded Leggings and Kampf leg equip.

Questions:

-If a NPC dies, does this 'downgrade' their equip? I know it takes exp from them.

-If I die and my NPC does not and autodesummons, does she lose exp/'downgrade' equip?

question to the NPC experts:

ive done about 4 sessions with my NPC already and we have been leveling off of crabs and giants in qufim island for about 20-38 exp each monster

im level 34 the NPC is still level 30, can anyone think of a reason why he didnt level yet?

thanks in advance!

the only reason i can see is because your npc isnt gaining xp as fast as most others. lets say your killing lv.25mobs as lv.34 with npc at 30, it takes you longer to kill the mobs and for less xp than oh say, me at 73 killing lv.35-40ish mobs. therefore your npc will not level as fast

Ochibi-- do you have a higher level job? As a 73 I've done4 sessions on too weaks in altepa with my taru buddy, and he's already level 32. I'm fairly certain that it's good to fight mobs higher than the NPC.

On another note.. Xclint-- unless something has specifically told you that your NPC is a whitemage/redmage, I wouldn't go claiming something like that in your original post. Right now it's my understanding that we know nothing about the NPC's "job," only thier tactic. I'm thinking it's very possible that these NPCs don't follow the same job rules that everything else in the game does. People will say it has Ubdead Killer so it's a PLD, people will say it's a WHM because it casts -na spells.. but we really don't know at all.

It has to be a Redmage -or- Whitemage because it can use a sword and wear armor.. and once in awhile some of his spells released a bit faster... (Fastcast?) its only safe to assume that its a redmage/whitemage as for the fact they are the only 2 classes with major healing or buffs.

Completely untrue. You are thinking inside the box and trying to make your NPC fit the definition of jobs SE has given us. In the context of the story though, the 15 jobs we get are hardly all the jobs that exist in the game world.

Remember, from your character's perspective things are alot different. Alot of things that we take as being common are unique in your character's eyes. Things like artifact armor, rare/ex items, and even battles are a one-time thing. Jobs have this also. The way you became a Bard is not the way other people in the game world became bards. It takes alot of suspension of disbelief for this to work but it's an MMORPG, what can you do really..

The NPC is a job that is not defined to us. This allows the NPC to surprise us. You really don't know what it's going to learn next.

while its obvious that the job is not defined to us due to the fact that it says HEALER... the only two jobs in the game that heal at ALL are redmage and whitemage...

Shield is undoubtably Paladin/Warrior... Attacker is however what you are describing as mixed...

you cant deny the obvious because its 'undefined' or unspoken of..

im gonig to have to agree with xclint, and i think he meant either RDM or WHM by his post and not that exact order. i could be wrong though. and shield is a paladin because i watched mine use Holy Circle and intimidate a mob in xarcabard.
however i have seen some odd quirks i dont think SE meant for a healer to use a scythe and if it can i bet it sucks with it!!

just my 2 gils

ok this is getting so annoying, for the last time YES YOU CAN GO ON A HIGH LEVEL JOB AND KILL TOO WEAK AND YOUR NPC WILL LEVEL!!!

my mpc just got 32 from too weak in altep desert every other post asks "can i fight too weak and level my npc?" YES now stop asking if the mob will check as Easy prey or more you can fight kill and level your npc from it no matter what level you are, so for the last time YES-YOU-CAN-LEVEL-NPC-ON-TOO WEAK-OVER 30

I think se really needs to take a closer look at the gear and how it works ; ; on the third day I had a breast plate (level 40) on the forth day she had mithril breast plate (level 49) and after that she changed to a doublet.... whats wrong with them lol she even leveled no dying. oh and on attacker I've also seen her use double attack all in all she's pretty awsome, I just wish she'd stick with the mithril lol or something decent

did you happen to change her style?

It seems from all the reports that alot of NPC's have been converting into mage armor possibly because people have been switching them from shield/attack into healing.

My guess is that they will wear whatever fits their job description the best.
#223 Jul 23 2005 at 9:47 PM Rating: Default
nope lol but the one job she never was lol went right from shield to attacker 2 calls after she was switched to attacker she started wearing mage gear O.o lol lol trader pumps, doublet and brais

I just wanted to say that this is an awesome thread...lots of great info here. Keep up the good work documenting the progress of the NPC buddies.

I do have one question though. On the first post it now says you can do the dropping the Signal Pearl thing once per in game week and the week ends on Darksday. I logged on this morning and got a new Signal Pearl because I dropped mine the night before. I called my NPC and we killed some Tabar Beaks trying to get Deadly Dodo to pop (he didn't). She left after a while and said she was tired. When I got back to Jeuno I talked to her and she had some new armor yay!. I dropped my pearl and it was Lightningsday. I logged for dinner and when I came back on it was Darksday so I waited. As soon as the clock said 0:00 Firesday I tried to get a new pearl and she says "I just gave you one, I'm sorry you'll have to wait." ;;

Shouldn't I be able to get another one now or did I just misunderstand that. Just wondering. Thanks.

PS I tried a few more times just to be sure and she still won't give me a new one.

TIPS FOR READERS:
You can drop your Signal Perl and retrieve another one from your NPC at the rondevous point with the timer rest.

This can be done once every in-game week (the game week ends on darksday) this has been confirmed and tested by me.

Just want to add that I tried this and it didn't work >.< taking into consideration that in-game week ends on darksday. This is what I did.

Lightsday
-Drop pearl & get a new one.
-Call Henrietta, do battle.
-Henritetta gtg. me do misc stuff. then drop pearl.
Darksday
-Do nothing.
Firesday
-Went to ask for a new pearl, but she said, 'I just gave you one!' T.T

So, does this means every in-game week as in 8hrs RL?

Anyway, aside all that here's my 4th outing with Henrietta ^^
We battled for like 15mob or so in qufim again me as rdm61. That took only about 13mins and she had to go. I set her style to attacker and I noticed her doing double attack ^^ and she told me she was ready to do WS ^^
And this is her armour set after the 4th outing.
New armour set ^^
