i couldn't stomach playing a little round thing, so i'm a Mithra BLM. the strat guide lists Mithra as the "second best" choice for BLM, but i gotta say.. the gap between my mana and a Taru of the same level's mana is pretty aggravating. as a result, i've piled on every bit of MP-boosting gear i can find.. including the Mithra RSE leg armor (which gives +32 mana.. and while i'm here, i GOTTA say, sorry, but RSE is not a "leveler" for race differences at all. it just helps decrease the gap.. a BIT). i'm only level 40, and at this stage, with every bit of equipment i've been able to find/afford and food and RSE, i'm still only almost even with a 40 Taru BLM.
SO, my point is, if you like your elf, play your elf. switch around to different jobs if playing the BLM gets to you, but don't switch races. THEN AGAIN.. if you want to take your BLM to 75 (or higher as the cap raises) and you want to be an in-demand BLM who gets groups easily, changing races is probably a good idea. granted, i've only spoken to / read posts by three lvl 70+ Elvaan BLM, but every one of them has the same gripe.. groups are sooo hard to come by and they get passed over for another race all the time.
as my Mithra gets higher and the Taru-mana gap gets bigger, i've started a RNG/THF.. cos i would like to be one of the best players in my job. (before the "it's the player, not the character" stuff starts.. yes. i agree. but a good Taru BLM is better than a good Mithra or Elf BLM, period.) <-- that's me.. if that doesn't concern you, and you're playing for fun and aren't interested in the high-level, "uber", competitive BS, then ***** it and play exactly what you want.
there's my two cents, really nothing new
