Today there was a stealth patch. What was to be done was not tested. The net result of the stealth patch was that many guilds were deleted, to include some end game ranked guilds.

The player's response was vent and notify via DBG's boards their outrage about the deleted guilds in the following thread:

https://forums.daybreakgames.com/eq/index.php?threads/almost-every-guild-on-povar-has-been-deleted.236094/

Opps, that thread once it hit 3 pages of comments, within 20 minutes of the servers coming back up, locked and then either deleted or removed.

There was another relevant thread:

https://forums.daybreakgames.com/eq/index.php?threads/server-maintenance-length.236092/

Opps, that thread as of posting this was locked.

In my MBA class I needed to write case study of botched business practices. Thank you DBG on providing an excellent case study of not communication with your client base, and botching your database maintenance in such a way that it negatively affects a majority of your paying customers, and rather listening to your paying customers concerns, endeavoring to silence them.

I took EQ101 but if I recall correctly the formula for calculating patch times is:

(Stated patch time x 0.25) + (Stated patch time) +/- (2 hours) + (number of times fippy darkpaw rushes the guards per day) + (Number of people who seem surprised of extended down time)

Deleting a thread of customer complaints is a time-honored "tradition" along with the policy of never admitting to unscheduled server downtime until the servers have been down so long that the volume of incoming complaints and inquiries becomes comparable to DDOS attack.

This "tradition" is found not just with game companies but other Internet companies as well. For example, recently I tried to log into my account with a bank I deal with and started getting very cryptic---and worrisome---errors. I called their CS, waited 15 mins to reach a rep (which immediately made me suspect trouble on their end and many customers calling to complain). The rep denied any problems at their end, insisting it was a computer, browser or router problem at my end. They insisted on wasting 35 minutes of my time going thru a checklist of stupid things me, as a dumb customer, is very likely to have done in order to waste their time running down the list. Do I update my operating system, do I patch my software, do I run anti-virus, all the standard bullshet. Nothing worked. The rep concluded the problem was at my end. Have a nice day,

I called another bank number I had, not the standard tech support but an unadvertised number you can get with persistence. I started to explain my problem but within 10 secs the rep says "Oh, we have known problems at our end, give us a half hour and it should be cleared up." Relieved that I didn't have a problem myself and that I wouldn't be wasting another half hour on the phone, I said, "Geez, couldn't you inform your CS people, or maybe even post a notice on your login page?" He say, "oh we never tell CS about these outages because they're in India and it's hard enough explaining basic bank policies to them." And "we can't update the website because changes to the site take 24 hours at least to go thru the approval process."

Hmm... very reassuring. I think I might need a new bank...

Post locking and deletions have gotten a little out of hand recently. Also is it just me or does RadarX have a generally rotten attitude towards the community? I really don't like the "face" we're seeing from official posters at all.

Finally logged in last night, for the first time in a week, only to have them take the servers down again about 20 minutes later.

Oh well, at least I had time and warning enough to get my NO RENT (Temporary, whatever) TS mats back in my house :)

Hope it's better today.

And fortunately, all my chars were still in my guild, and my houses and guild hall were intact. So, at least I dodged that bullet!

Sappin, yes it is not just the bank, but other communication based companies. It is even worst when you have multiple sub-contractors, each pointing the finger at each other and the main company.

Taninger, I agree with you the thread deletions / movements are out of control. This was like standing sitting in a life boat bearing the name Titanic and being told to shut up and row, and everything will be ok, once the engineers fix the Titanic we will be able to return to our party on board. You can't hide mess up of this magnitude which affected every end game guild and about 95% the player population. Best policy is to accept it, communicate with client base, and fix as soon as possible.

Thanks for this post. Was thinking I was the only victim. Aegis of Justice, founded in 1999, by myself and NINE others, has been abandoned by the last GL and his family. It has taken me FIVE years to get my toons re-instated to Officer level, but we can NOT access anything other than put stuff into bank and Tribute, but can NOT USE tribute. GL gone for over five years and DBG, as SONY, will not make me GL. NO BIGGIE, except I am the ONLY surviving player for last five yrs...But I digress.
There have been several flaws and/or changes with unexpected consequences, of late. The Guild Quest from the toon by the tree, does not work for two of my characters, That is, the LINK to the idiot by the ramp, fails to give the LINK to the idiot inside. This means I can not do the steps to get into the Newbie Quild, Perhaps, just as well since there is NO active GL, and we can contribute but NO participate in either withdrawing items or Tribute activation. Seems a bit one-sided. The level 91 GL is probably staff, and never answers emails. To the good, the pool and bankers and Sales/Parcel girl is great. So I sent email to DBG to notify that the quest is not working, listing the name of toon, acct, and guild(i.e. Newbie Quest). After two weeks or so I resend it, and got a reply wanting more info, i.e. name of guild, acct and Character. DUH? Read the email. NOPE, the closed the issue, and this happens ofter, in my experiences. OH YEAH< the missing guilds, I have had accts missing for years, under Sony, they would not recover them for me. Albeit they send me a list, ALL the toons and gear are GONE on several of the accts, except for some DBC, or what ever it was before DBC, they converted that currency to DBC, abd WHY would I have 8600 DBC on server with NO TOONS? NO gear either. They assure me I never played on that acct, or some others that also were deleted of characters, but left accessible after I got the P/W changed. The credibility of DBG has sunk to a new low, and with the added Pass-The-Buck behavior recently witnessed, included a person who claims to have been w/ DBG for 15 years, it is troubling that I have paid for access for 15 years and have lost much of what I earned and/or MADE in Trade Skill. Augs and gear nerfed, EVEN THOUGH they said Silver would be grandfathered. This is NOT grandfathering. The gear is held hostage for more payments. TWICE, one of my toons was stripped of all gear and coin, while CAMPED in Karana. Sony would NOT restore the gear. I have feeling that, based on 40 years of Public Service, and degree in CRJ, that there is something afoot, and not kosher. At least one of my accts, under Sony, which appears to be DBG in disguise, was hacked and/or used by someone on Sony staff. Otherwise why not just give me the stuff back and tell me who the thief is? This os too long to rant over spilled milk, They will not fix it and deny things that I have personal experience with the info. I>E> When expansions were first issued, they were INDIVIDUAL boxed DVD, through Kunark. They were installed in sequence, and available on all servers, to ALL accts, of the parent ACCT hold, ME. DBG claims this never happened, but if it did, LOL, it was not intended. I doubt sony made such a mistake. They may have done some stupid things, but not getting the MONEY was not one of them. When you catch someone in a falsehood, misrepresentation etc, it is hard to re-establish trust. Think about it
