I can confirm that the mana regen trick did used to work. They eventually fixed it, but back in the days when mana regen was pretty minimal and the numbers themselves pretty low (and frankly, you had a hell of a lot of downtime in which there was nothing to do *but* watch the numbers), this absolutely worked. I used to time uses of my Deepwater helm (10 second cat of daring) to heal me, whilst still getting sitting regen every other tick. You could easily tell whether you got like 3 mana or 12 (or whatever the med rate was at the time), so it's not like you could make a mistake with this. It did work. It's also why mounts were such a huge deal for casters. While on the mount you were always considered to be sitting. So as long as you didn't have autoattack on, and weren't actually casting a spell at the time, you'd get sitting regen when the tick came.

They played around with various fixes for this, but eventually just switched to the OOC regen system and made the whole thing moot.

I jump over any rug in any zone. If they ever make a zone where all non-rug-covered flooring is a pit trap I'll probably just curl up into a ball and weep.

As a druid I also believe that certain items can onle be foraged in a specific area of a map. Everybody tells me that foraging is completely random, but I've never been able to forage kejekan palm fruits outside of the jungle area or Stonebrunt Mountains.

Could be total superstition, but I kinda agree with that. I know that different terrain types exist in a sort of tile form on EQ maps. Meaning that there is a value that can be checked to see "am I on sand, jungle, hill, water, etc?". I'm not aware that the game uses this data for anything other than graphics (well, except for water of course), but it sure does seem like certain things can only be foraged if you're standing on the correct terrain type. I was doing the oceangreen task sequences with a character a while back. One of them required foraging a pinecone (I think?). I remember running around hitting forage for some time and failing. I read some thread where someone said that the only place he was able to forage them was while in the village itself (right in front of the guy asking for it in fact). So I stood right in front of the guy, standing on the "road" in the village, hit forage, and what do you know? A pine cone appeared. Coincidence? Maybe. But maybe not.

It also seemed like I could only forage maggots in the temple of bertox if I was standing on a dirt area in the zone. If I was on a stone section, I never foraged one. This could totally have just been my perception, but I basically hit forage every time the button came up the whole time I was in the temple for like three different tasks, traveling all over the place. And I had a hell of a time getting maggots until I just stayed in the entry room and foraged there instead of in the areas farther in. Got the remaining ones I needed in like 20-30 minutes doing that.

This could be "easily" checked by someone with lots (and I mean LOTS) of time on his hands. Like a TON of spare time! Smiley: oyvey Smiley: oyvey Smiley: oyvey (not moi!)

Frankly, I became inclined toward the reverse when I recently had to do some foraging for a couple of druid quests. I was shocked to find that I could sit at the zone-in and pretty much forage anything I needed (eventually) even though the current wisdom seemed to be that some of the items I needed were available only in certain areas.

I will say this: it would both make sense and be easily programmable to make foraged items restricted to certain areas or types of terrain.

That doesn't mean it's true though...

It can also be both. Meaning that in some zones, anything on the forage table is available anywhere in the zone, but in other zones, the table is different depending on where you are. So testing this in one zone doesn't necessarily tell us anything. You're right though, that this would require someone with a lot more time than I'm willing to spend.

Many people think the druid and ranger epics need particular spots, but I've gotten them from all over, including port ins, and zone ins, as well as other places. The one thing I haven't worked out is if the 1.5s require a level or the initial hail flag or what to start the Rathe Mtns forage, as I've tried it with lower levels who hadn't done any hails yet, and after days of foraging while killing hill giants never got any.

I believe that as well with my druid! Whenever I find a good spot for a certain forage I make sure to park in that spot every time.

My ranger stood right where he zoned into OGV and foraged many pinecone right there. I suspect the RNG just hated you that day.Smiley: tongue

Having said that, I had to forage..something (juicy palm fruit? something like that) and tried for hours to forage it with no luck. I finally went to the /loc suggested in the relevant item thread and got one immediately.

Having said that the forage for the fruit whatsit was in a rather old zone, so maybe /loc matters for forage if the zone is olde enough? I'll try when I get home Tuesday. (I'm in Colorado at the moment. Stop by Bijou's cake/b-day thread in the OoT for hijinks, kids!!)Smiley: nod

Where you zone in is on a dirt road though. I don't think it's "in the village", so much as "on dirt" rather than "on grass". Which, if you've ever been around pine trees and played with pine cones as a kid, is usually where they are found. I suspect that in some newer zones/expansions, they did add in some code that allows for different forage tables based on the tile type you are on.

Lol. Or it's just the RNG. Smiley: grin

For the Ranger Epic 1.0, I completed all of the foraging right at the point where you zone in. In Everfrost, I got it on the first forage attempt. Others took from 2-3 attempts to over 10 attempts (Innothule).
