Shadowspike ArrowsFollow

#1 May 24 2014 at 2:13 PM Rating: Decent
I have been playing EQ for approx. 13+ years now (started right after Ruins of Kunark came out) One on my alts is a ranger, I have put alot of time and effort into building him up and have been working on all of my tradeskills to make a shadowspike arrow (50 dmg arrow) after achieving this arrow I then learn it is marked "expendable" so it does not work with the endless quiver ability. I spoke to Sony who informed me they had planned to remove that tag but it has been put on the back burner but if more players showed interest in removing the expendable tag on this arrow they would. This post is going out to all those rangers (either mains or alts) who would like to see this arrow useable with the endless quiver ability. Since it is no drop, each ranger would have to obtain it on their own, and I feel if they want to put in the work to obtain it they should be able to kick some serious *** with it. With the hit points some of the new content has (Plane of War, Tower of Rot, etc.) I dont feel these arrows would be overkill.

I would like to see people support this so we can get that expendable tag removed quickly.

The "expendable" tag was put in place so that they could make higher damage arrows without having people be able to make one and use it forever. That is why arrows had stagnated for many years. Once they changed the code to allow them to make arrows that are used even if you have endless quiver, they started making better arrows. I do not know if things have changed since that time and the new devs have new ideas, although I do not recall seeing any discussions on the forums about this. I can say that it was intentional at least when they were made.

They're not going to allow a 50dmg arrow to be used with endless quiver IMO. At least not NOW. YES, it would be overkill! It's too big a jump. And I'd agree with that. I'd also agree it would be reasonable for this tradeskill combine to return more than 1 arrow at a time, since the arrow is hardly worth that much effort and cost if it's expendable. But it was a tradeskill QUEST item so clearly the original intent wasn't to add a 50dmg arrow to the game which could be used regularly---expendable or not.

It's like that damage augment recently introduced which added 16dmg to a 1-hand weapon, at a time when the max damage aug for 1-handers was 10. Clearly 16 made sense only for a 2-hander, and sure 'nuff it turned out the devs had mis-tagged the augment. After a couple of weeks they fixed it.

Like my dear old granny, God Bless Her Soul, used to tell me, If something looks too good to be true...

Endless quiver is very nice... and a big oops on the Luclin Dev teams part as it killed the tradeskill & roleplay of fletching. It's one of those AA that didn't scale so well in hindsight (example: Dire charm is a PoP AA and really only powerful in PoP content where they made it shine).

The AA should have give you endless of a default mediocre quality of arrow for your given level, so you never run out. In the meantime, you want trick shots (long range, high damage, specialness) you fletch or pay a fletcher for their work.

So while I have no investment to whether they make every arrow EQ able moving forward, I see reasons why they maybe wanted to revisit that concept a bit.

I agree. There are lots of things that the dev team way overpowered at that time that are causing problems now. I think they did that, though, because they never expected the game to still be going after 15 years and 20 expansions.
